Ibuprofen for the flu

Common Questions and Answers about Ibuprofen for the flu

ibuprofen

Avatar m tn whenever i take even one 550mg (naproxen) ibuprofen and then drink, my stomach gets tender and bloated and i feel bad. i usually take a maalox or something like that, yet i never throw up from it so i don't know if that's applicable for you. i think it is due to the ibuprofen, but if you're not used to eating spicy foods then it could have disagreed with you, not necessarily meaning food poisoning. you should never drink and take NSAIDs at the same time.
Avatar f tn Maybe I am being your typically over-worried mother here, but I am wondering if there are any concerns about being on Metformin when you have the flu. My 20 year-old daughter has been on Metformin for PCOS for two years. She is showing symptoms of the flu, and to make it harder on me, she's on an internship in Florida, so I can't even "see" the symptoms. She tells me she has fever, headache, sore throat, dizziness, vomiting, and general achiness.
1207048 tn?1282174304 Hmmmmm. Seems like a long time for flu like sx from the DMD, mine only lasted a day or so even when I first started on Rebif. What dose did you start with? I'm assuming you a titrating and didn't shoot up a 44mcg. I take 2 Tylenol extra strength 1/2 hr before I inject, (bedtime), and if I awake during the night feeling achy or feverish I pop another couple Tylenol. I'm not sure if I hope this is just a side effect or is the flu....either way doesn't sound good.
1002640 tn?1280746685 Others on this forum have had similar success; even if they had the flu symptomsinitially, it was just for the first few weeks, then they went away. Let us know how it goes for you.
Avatar m tn What causes sharp pains chest, in the back and every part of the body. The pain comes and goes regulaly.
Avatar f tn At my first appointment I received a paper with a list of medications I can and cannot take if I get sick. Well a few days ago I started having flu like symptoms so I look at the paper and it basically says Sudafed for colds and Tylenol for pain or fever, but no Ibuprofen. I start taking the Sudafed for a few days, doesn't really help.. Only for the body aches. Well last night I had a fever of 101.4 so I decided to go to the ER just to be safe.
Avatar n tn It truly sounds like the flu....but, I would do as the doctor recommended, and try the ibuprofen. Ibuprofen is an anti-inflammatory, which means it will not only help with discomfort, but it helps reduce any swelling that may be causing discomfort. If you symptoms don't improve, or get worse, you should at least call your physician and let him know. He may want to see you again, and run further tests for a more specific diagnosis. Hope you feel better soon!
Avatar f tn You do have the flu. You may get a cold and a cough later, but the initial onset of flu is exactly the symptoms that you describe. Take over the counter medications as directed on the packet to get your temperature down. Stay in bed and take sips of juices so as not to get dehydrated. It is not important to eat, as long as you get your fluids. Avoid milky drinks while you are ill.
Avatar n tn i had pain problems as well and it was due to vitamin d deficency which is low on about 90% hbv carriers, when i reached 30-40ng/ml in the blood pains disappered, i also had cold and flu all the time, i haven t had any flu since then check if your vitamin d is lower than 50-60ng/ml and if so try vitamin D supplements to increase it and omega3 from fish oil 5mg daily of omega3 fish oil has the same potency as antiinflammation like ibuprofen
1394601 tn?1328032308 You should not need oxycodone for the side affects of rebif. Acetaminophen or ibuprofen alone should quell any of the possibilities. Maybe you can split it somehow? If you injected at night after dinner take the ibuprof or tylenol and then keep your regularly scheduled day routine for pain? Just a thought. That's what I do. That way, if I do experience affects I can sleep through them. Being 7 months in your likely well adjusted by now.
Avatar f tn The secondary infections are actually the things that make flu dangerous for children and the elderly. So, you nay have needed antibiotics after the flu. Hope you are all better now!
Avatar n tn they must not take aspirin or nonsteroidal inti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDS) at any time due to the risk of kidney damage. Common NSAIDS to avoid are Motrin, Ibuprofen, Advil, Aleve, and Naprosyn. Any cold medication or decongestants containing pseudoephedrine or other decongestants should be avoided unless your doctor has given permission. Tylenol for headache or pain - not for fever - can be taken not to exceed 1800mg in 24 hrs. Consult with your surgeons office for additional screens.
Avatar n tn Hello, A sore throat can have many causes. Common viruses, and even the viruses that cause mononucleosis (mono) and the flu, can cause a sore throat. Sinus drainage (post nasal drip) and bacteria. like streptococcus can cause a sore throat. Are you taking some medicines or antibiotics? Sore throat appearing after treatment with antibiotics, chemotherapy, or other immune-compromising medications may be due to Candida, commonly known as "thrush.
Avatar n tn Yes, Immodium for the runs and ibuprofen or tylenol for pain.
Avatar f tn Thanks for your response, I took your advice with the fluids and rest I also took ibuprofen which eased my aching back and 'sore skin' although I was sick that night by the end of the following day I was feeling a lot better.
Avatar m tn Also yes, the shortness of breath is always bad for me when I get the flu or cold as is the upper chest pain. I've never understood why. I don't believe somethings wrong with my lungs but then again who knows. I simply think it has to do with the fact that I rarely am in public places and so when I am I tend to get the worst of any flu I come down with. I did notice last year when I got flu shot I didn't get near as bad a flu at all. It lasted for only a week. Oh well.
3191940 tn?1447268717 If you live in the Northern hemisphere, now is the time to think about getting the flu shot, and making an appointment to do so if you need one. Flu season can start as early as September, and since it takes two weeks to build immunity after getting the vaccine, you'll want to be fully protected during the peak of flu season.
Avatar f tn I have been on an ssri for three years, have had ibuprofen many times just bad for the stumach so i have acid blocker omeprazol with it.Have used lots of other stuff with it; different cough medicines, paracetamol and non over the counter stuff.Chemnists are usually well trained so if they say its safe....
764229 tn?1322519884 So do you think it is the flu or something else, no one else is sick here, of course, they all got the flu shot and dumb me passed on it. This really suc*** Is a fever bad for the bady??
Avatar n tn THIS is the game where you lie around for three or four weeks feeling like you have the flu, during which time the infection migrates into your circulatory system, and then you are in critical condition with your chest open while they try to clean the infection out of places where a pill or shot won't find it.
799959 tn?1239293294 ibuprofen wont do much for a sore throat, if you take a tylenol or something with acetomenophen it is an anti-inflammatory and will bring the swelling down off your throat...try gargling salt water and drip honey down the back of your throat...and if you dont feel better in one or two days...
Avatar m tn 0, I went to sleep that night and woke up with the chills and shakes with a fever of 103.8, I keep alternating tylenol and ibuprofen to try and break it, the next day all day long it was at 101.0, and then later on in the evening it got to 104.0, I had the chills and shakes real bad and started to sweat for about an hour and it came down to 99.
Avatar m tn Thank you. Its comforting to know that tylenol will help. And thanks for the tip to take it before the shot next time.
Avatar n tn Hello Shirio and welcome to the Pain Forum: First let me tell you that I'm sorry for the discomfort. The meds you have are not meds that can help you type of pain. You need a stronger Muscle Relaxer like Flexeril or Soma. These will work much better than Skelaxin which in my opinion is the "Baby" of the Muscle relaxer meds. It is wise to stay on an anit-inflammatory like Motrin but you might want to try 800mg Ibuphropen (sp) Also.
Avatar f tn I remember when I was on Rebif, I had the same issue, and Ibuprofen with the shot at bedtime did the trick. I took the Ibuprofen again in the morning, and by 10 am, I was feeling normal. Good luck, and I hope you feel better soon!
Avatar n tn Sounds like it, the only sure way to know, of course, is it see a doctor, after seeing one he/she could possibly give meds, and help ease the worries
