Hysterectomy for heavy bleeding

Common Questions and Answers about Hysterectomy for heavy bleeding

hysterectomy

Avatar f tn My main problem is the extremely heavy bleeding. To the point I have had to go to the emergency room from blood loss. My monthlies are lasting 20+ days that are very heavy. I usually have to lay in bed with my feet elevated and an ice pack on my abdomen just to try to control it. Anyhow, I was wondering if anyone has ever tried acupuncture for endometriosis. If so, did it help? I found a place close to where I live stating they can improve the symptoms and it would cost $120.
1416390 tn?1333901604 Since I was through having babies at that time, I went ahead and decided on a partial hysterectomy, sparing my ovaries. Of course, there are other reasons for heavy bleeding, but if you are still interested in having another baby, you may need to be on birth control pills for awhile. It really helps lighten the flow drastically. Good luck to you...
1615999 tn?1307461942 How heavy is too heavy when it comes to menstrual bleeding? My doctors always say if I saturate a pad in an hour then I should be seen right away. Well today I just about saturated one in about 2 hours and I don't know if that is an issue or not. I had an u/s a couple weeks ago because of heavy bleeding and they noticed that my uterine lining was thicker than it should be since I had just finished my period a couple days before.
Avatar m tn I had a Myomectomy 3 years ago. Family history my Mom had a hysterectomy 51 many fibriods and heavy bleeding. Will I have to take hormones if I get a hysterectomy? Thank you for your quick comments!
Avatar f tn I have experienced heavy bleeding with clots for 5 plus years and it is getting worse. My periods are regular, but very heavy. Last period was different however, only two days long. Pain and cramps worsening, as well as radiating pain down left leg, that feels like leg is heating up from the inside. Transvaginal ultrasound showed a thick uterus during 3rd day of period and exam showed uterus has moved to left side of abdomen. I often suffer from low back pain and pressure in lower abdomen.
Avatar f tn Now, literally two years from that i have started bleeding again, not as heavy, not many large clots, but just as long. Transvaginal US was done, all looked good but simple ovarian cyst, and posterior subcerosal fibroid, I have no pain, other than normal cramping, no pain after sex etc.
Avatar n tn I have severe pain in right groin area. Heavy ache and vaginal bleeding. Pain has gone away 2 times which happened when I bled heavy only for about 10 min. Have seen every Doctor, am going to get hysterectomy in a week. Such horrible pain. Please help if anyone has had this. No appetite either. Thank you...
Avatar f tn ve since had a DNC,been to a hematologist with no answers and still bleeding heavy with clots. There have been times in the last 9 months that I only saw blood when I wiped. The majority of the last 9 months has been non stop bleeding with small and large clots. I can't afford to be off work for a hysterectomy, just trying to avoid it but I have come to the conclusion that I have no other options. I started taking vitron C which has helped my anemia. Oddly, my hormone levels are ok.
Avatar f tn I want to know if this is normal. The hysterectomy was done because i had fibroids and heavy periods.
Avatar n tn ve now been diagnosed with thick lining of my uterus, bleeding for over a month, almost 2, with light bleeding, not heavy, no clots. Bloated tummy, abdominal discomfort (not like heavy cramps). I am awaiting hear back on a referral to a Gynecologist, from what I was told by the referral coordinator could take 3-6 months to get into. I am 41 yrs of age. Any ideas as to what this recent diagnosis could mean? What can you tell me about testing my hormone levels?
Avatar n tn Thank you for all your subsequent postings. I just saw them today on 5/28. I have been thru all the tests, I have no fibroids, had a normal biopsy, lots of bleeding which is now easing back into normal periods every 32 days except for missing two consecutive months (march and april). The bleeding is more normal now. I had estrogen levels normal to child-bearing years just last month (sigh) and didn't go on progesterone.
Avatar f tn Hi Cherie762, I got my results back and the tissue is benign! Ya! So that is great news. Now he has started me on Medroxypr AC (progesterone) 10mg x 12 days a month. I talked to him on the phone so the conversation was short. He told me to try it for a couple of months to see if it decreases my bleeding. So now I have been researching it online (which isn't always the best idea!) and I am reading a lot of side effects such as heavy bleeding and discomfort.
Avatar n tn She is wondering if it is best she get a hysterectomy because the fibroids do not seem to be going away and the fear of bleeding to death during her period is always there. Her cardiologist does not want her going off the warfarin for any reason, but these periods are getting intolerable. Do you know if there are any easier, less invasive hysterectomies available for people in this situation?
Avatar f tn They are recomending ablation or hysterectomy doe anyone have a opinion on which is best? I went in on Thursday after bleeding heavy for over 40 days & got blood work done along with a transvaginal us my results will be back on my Monday appointment. Thanks for any advice.
Avatar f tn I do not have hardly any pain, only cramping for maybe a day during my cycle. And, only heavy bleeding maybe for one day out of the cycle. Not at all enough to want surgery. I have talked to a lot of women who wanted a hysterectomy, but it seems their symptoms are much worse than mine. I try to live a very natural life syle. Surgery and leupron are not on my list of things I want to experience in life!
Avatar f tn Hi. I am 42 years old and have suffered with heavy periods for the past 5-6 years. Although not everyday is a bad day, at least two or three days are unbearable. I have missed work, activities with friends and family and most time don't feel like leaving my house. Has anyone around my age had this surgery done? Has it helped? Do you recommend this being done? Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!
Avatar f tn Last December, I started to bleed lightly. This bleeding increased over a few months to a very heavy constant flow. I went to a gynecologist to get tests done, and was diagnosed with PCOS. I was given the pill, which didn't stop the bleeding, then the Depo shot, which didn't stop the bleeding, but lightened it a bit, and then they put in a hormonal IUD, which just caused excruciating pain at first, and didn't stop the bleeding. I was also given Metformin.
Avatar n tn Hi, I had both a D&C and hysteroscopy June 10th due to heavy heavy clotted bleeding for 3 weeks (which gave me anemia), it is now July 28th and I am still bleeding. Not heavily but spotting daily. I called the gyno, he wants me to have another pelvic and vaginal sonogram done by the end of the week. Let you know what he says when the results come in. Hope everything turns out ok for you.
Avatar n tn Hello, Generally, vaginal bleeding after hysterectomy is light. You may notice occasional spotting or a pink discharge. If bleeding after hysterectomy is as heavy as a menstrual period or lasts longer than six weeks then it needs evaluation. Pelvic cramps can be due to healing of stitches but if there is severe pain or any fever then any infection or adhesion formation should be ruled out.
Avatar f tn I have fibroids and have very heavy bleeding with huge blood clots every since I turned 40. I am 42 now. My bleeding is so bad i would soak through pads. I got on the depo shot and it did help the bleeding alot but I still bleed heavy, just not as many clots and not soaking through pads. My fibroids still bother me very bad. I did some research and came across alot of women who said they took Apple cidar vinegar and it helped and or shrunk their fibroids.
Avatar f tn For the last 3-4 months, I've had bleeding that lasts from 3-4 weeks, sometimes even longer. It will stop for about a week or two then come back. I recently went to the doctor for my yearly exam, explained this to her and she feels that what I have is PCOS. So, she put me on birth control. In the past, I've been on birth control due to my irregular periods. Currently, I've been bleeding for 5 weeks and I've been on the BCP Trinessa for a week and 2 days.
Avatar m tn Fibroids shrink after menopause and of course bleeding does too. Hysterectomy trades this temporary problem for a whole new set of permanent problems. You can eat foods high in iron or take iron supplements to increase your iron levels. Taking iron with vitamin C will enhance absorption. If the bleeding is too bothersome, try using a menstrual cup which holds quite a bit more than a tampon or pad.

Avatar f tn I had caeserian deliveries Off late for past 6mnths my periods last for 5days with spotting upto next three- four days.Bleeding is heavy for first 4 days. I have low hemoglobin and take medicine for it. Is it of concern? Do I need examination?
Avatar f tn Based on these findings, does anyone know if the hysterectomy is inevitable? I have a consult with another doctor but not for 2 more weeks. Hoping to do some research and get as much info as possible. Any help and advice is greatly appreciated! thanks!
