Common Questions and Answers about Hysterectomy endometriosis young

hysterectomy

Avatar f tn Hi, You are too young for a hysterectomy. You have not mentioned the reason for doing so. It should not be done unless absolutely necessary. Also as far as possible, the ovaries need to be preserved to prevent the symptoms of premature menopause. Discuss with your Doctor. Take care and good luck.
955060 tn?1251260239 Hi. I'm 26, have three kids and on August 6th. I'll be having a total hysterectomy. I've been dealing with severe endometriosis since I was 16 (shortly after the birth of our first daughter). it has spread and gotten so bad that I have to take prescription pain pills for the pain. I sometimes have to skip doing things with my kids (ages 10 years, 2 years and 2 months) because it hurts so bad.
Avatar n tn Have you discussed Lupron injections with your doctor. Hun you are so young. I had endometriosis too when I was your age. I have two daughters. I will say... having repeat D&C and laparoscopic procedures throughout your young years will lead to painful scar tissue. Do not consider hysterectomy as your first solution as mentioned above. Go to a specialist like in Pittsburgh or Philly.. a larger facility more specialized with the best of technology. Think ahead not at the moment....
Avatar n tn I am 21 years old. I know it may sound young to have Endometriosis but it runs in my family. My mother, Grandmother, & Great Grandmother ALL had it. My mother had painful pd's her whole life, then had a misscarriage in her late 20's which lead to a laparoscopy, and LOADS of endo implants being removed, plus she had to have one whole ovary taken out. My grandmother had a grapefruit sized ovarian cyst, internal and external endometriosis on the uterus and ovaries.
Avatar f tn Hi...I've suffered from Endometriosis since my tweens (25 years), I've had 3 laparoscopies to ease the pain. After over 10 years of trying to conceive with medical help IVF was finally the winner in 2013 & I'm a proud mama of one beautiful boy. However the pain has been back for about a year (after my periods came back), the doctors say my eggs are dropping at a fast rate & we're not interested in doing IVF again so I'm faced with what now.
Avatar f tn If not, then they cannot say for sure if you have endometriosis. And hysterectomy with or without ovary removal is not a cure for endometriosis (endo) since endo implants / lesions exist throughout the pelvis. I had a hysterectomy 12 years ago at age 49 and it has turned my life upside down. I aged 10-15 years in just 4 months. However, I did not live with chronic pain.
589148 tn?1218752415 I am wondering when and if I should press my doctor for hysterectomy? I had always had very painful periods from the time I started getting my period at age 12. When I was 20 I had my daughter and at 21 I had my son. Soon after that I my periods started getting even worse than before. After going to see my ob/gyn for a few months I had a laperoscopy, hysteroscopy, and D/C. I found out then that I had Endometriosis. I tried the Lupron shots to no avail I was still in alot of pain.
1253584 tn?1332877954 1 is I could get the shot and it would put my end in remission but will also put me n menapousd or 2 have a hysterectomy. I have no kids and always dreamed of having one. But its not looking good.
Avatar n tn I agree with tmarland04. An ultrasound usually does not detect endometriosis. I personally had endometriosis. I underwent laparascopic surgery in 2001 and battled it for 6 years until I finally had to have a complete hysterectomy (ovary removal) and I am only 31 years old.
Avatar m tn I am thinking about having a hysterectomy because of terrible endemetriosis, I am 47 and have a history of breast cancer, so I cannot get any hormone replacement therapy. But i have read that maybe it won't help. Does anyone have any thoughts?
Avatar f tn I was in a lot of pain with endometriosis , fibroids and cysts and fobbed off from my docs for 18 months so I know how you feel about that !!!!. To contemplate a hysterectomy at your young age must be devastating , I would get a second and even a third opinion to see if there is anything else you can try before taking such a big step .
Avatar m tn I had my hysterectomy with ovaries removed 11 years ago for endometriosis..the endo was not excised as it was not a specialist so my endo continued and it then took me 7 yrs to find a true specialist who believed it could be endo after having all my female parts removed...he went in and sure enough frozen pelvis again...I also thanks to having my organs removed deal with pelvic organ prolapse...sex is very different...
314833 tn?1263259499 NO not at all. I had a hysterectomy for the same reason. endometriosis amoung severe scar tissue. I am so much happier now that I have had my hysterectomy and don't have to be in pain anymore!! Please also post this on the hysterectomy forum so you can get other's opinions there as well.
Avatar f tn info/ and read accurate info on endometriosis...since my hysterectomy and ovaries removed 11 years ago I have had my pelvic organs glue together 2 more times and have to be surgically cut apart and endo excised...so don't let your Dr. dismiss you...get copies of your medical records and see a specialist...most will review your records for free...the way it was explained to me...until all the endo is excised (cut out) it's much like when you have a piece of sand in your eye...
Avatar n tn I have endometriosis, and I am allergic to latex. I have a long history of breast cancer in my family. I cannot have children, I have adverse reactions to hormone therapy and birth controll. I have an IUD right now but am in severe pain. Non latex condoms do not offer enough protection. I am 28 and thinking about having a hysterectomy, but am unsure if that will increase my risk for breast cancer, and other hormone issues, any feedback or help would be great!
888637 tn?1241034907 Sounds like you do have options, a myomectomy or hysterectomy. Since the hysterectomy is clearly unwanted, why not go for the myomectomy? You won't know until you do it whether it relieves the pain or not. And at least then you will know and can decide if a hysterectomy is the next step- or if you would prefer not to despite the pain. Hope this helps, I know this must be a very upsetting decision but don't worry until you see how the myomectomy goes.
1336491 tn?1340619541 m a limbolander, but some of my docs believe MS. I had a hysterectomy in 2006 due to a uterus prolapse. My Gyn said that I also had endometriosis that was undiscovered. He didn't say what stage it was, but according to him it was working it's way through the uterine wall. He also said that this was the cause of all my abnormal uterine bleeding. I've recently lost my ovaries..left one in 2008, right one 2010 due to ovarian cyst. My ovaries would move and reattach to other things..
Avatar f tn I want to recommend, crwstar, if you have any endometriosis, ask them to excise, not laser burn. I did this for my hysterectomy, but was burned when I didn't know it with the first laporotomy. I later learned that it is better to cut than to burn, because the body treats the burns like foreign bodies and more scarring can happen. Adhesions are no fun.
Avatar f tn If someone has recommended a hysterectomy for endometriosis, look for another doctor. A small fibroid is not a reason to get a hysterectomy, either. Endometriosis can be treated by laparoscopic surgery, but it is to remove the endometriosis, not the uterus. Are you sure your doctor wanted you to have a hysterectomy? Here is a link that describes endometriosis. www.ncbi.nlm.nih.
Avatar f tn He dismissed my gps request for a full hysterectomy saying I was too young, but despite my age I have no quality of life! now my gp is sending me for a second opinion. I am so fed up with all this pain and no relief. I can not go on like this but I am also worried about having a full hysterectomy. I am 33 and have no children althought I do not want any. Any advice please.
Avatar m tn Be sure you understand the effects of this serious surgery, less than 2% of which are for confirmed cancer. If you have endometriosis, hysterectomy and ovary removal are not a cure. Many women continue with pelvic pain after having their organs removed. I hope you find this helpful.
