Common Questions and Answers about Hypoglycemia and the liver

hypoglycemia

Avatar n tn Hello debsabo, As you may know we're not physicians here, but we are experienced diabetics. We volunteers are most experienced with Type 1 diabetes, and altho' there are some similarities with Type 2 we do have quite a different disease. Here is the mechanism that makes us so vulnerable to severe hypos when we've been drinking.
Avatar f tn I have hep c and recently diagnosed woith hypoglycemia im very scared what will happen to me TY KRISTINE SMITH
Avatar n tn Love your liver, and quit drinking.
Avatar f tn This can be due to overproduction of insulin, certain disorders of the adrenal glands and the pituitary gland, liver and kidney disease, and certain medications. The way to begin to treat your hypoglycemia is to work with your doctor to find the underlying cause. Treating the cause will help to treat the hypoglycemia. I hope this helps.
946578 tn?1258663287 My blood sugar freaks out all the time and they have no idea why. They have done all the test and they can't figure out what is causing my blood sugar to do this. Some days it will drop down to the 40s if I don't eat every two or three hours. And sometimes it's gets really, really high when I haven't eaten for half the day. Sometimes when I go in they say I have hypoglycemia. Other times they think it's diabetes.
Avatar f tn To be honest Jenn, I have no idea. I did read about it a few weeks ago that the liver has something to do with glucose when I was reading up about how to cure diabetes. It was all very complicated. HbA1c and the A1c blood test is the same. It is just that the Hb which stands for haemoglobin has been missed off. If you are going for the blood tests, just ask to make sure that the liver function is also included. It sounds to me like you are not eating enough.
Avatar m tn Thanks very much for the response, and very sorry for this delayed reply. I shall check up on reactive hypoglycemia.
Avatar n tn I remember asking my doctors how this was affecting my baby and they assured me that the baby gets all the glucose he or she needs even if the mom is severely hypo. My child was a bit on the small side when born, but very normal. So I believe your baby is going to be fine. If you regained consciousness on your own, this means that your liver released emergency stores of sugars to help you. This is a good thing, and it helps to protect your body when this happens.
Avatar n tn Have you heard of insulin resistance? This may be partially to blame for hypoglycemia if it is "rebound", meaning her blood sugars may not sharply exceed the high levels, but if she eats a heavy meal -especially one high in simple carbohydrates- several hours later it "crashes" giving her hypoglycemia. It was explained to me that the insulin triggers becomes overreactive and dump a large amount of insulin in response to the free sugars in her system.
Avatar n tn The key is to prevent the body from sending for the emergency sugars stored in the liver, for when the body needs glucose and uses these emergency stores, the brain can recognize the presence of these sugars the NEXT time a low happens and so won't put out the proper warning signals. So it snowballs from there and if too many lows happen, the warning symptoms eventually go away entirely.
Avatar f tn The body digests (breaks down) fats using bile, which is a yellow-green fluid made in the liver. When the liver is damaged, the production and supply of bile may be affected. However, it is important not to avoid fat entirely because the body requires a daily supply to remain healthy. Here, as is with much of proper nutrition, moderation and good selection is the key. For your dietary fat, choose foods like nuts, avocados, fish and plant oils.
Avatar n tn s autoimmune hepatitus even though upto now the blood results have come back negative and the biliruben has gone down and liver biopsy they are sitting on the fence over results. My biliruben last week was 30, but my A F Ts were going down to 500 then last visit was up 660. Im on steroids now for 5 weeks to see how it goes. could i be using or eating something that is doing this to my liver or is it autoimmune hep.
Avatar n tn Hypoglycemia can kill within hours if nobody finds the person, or if the person is just assumed to be drunk and nobody takes his or her inability to function seriously. 2. Cane sugar IS 'normal' sugar. You need to know what the carb content is in any food or drink, not just how much sugar and what kind of sugar is in it.
Avatar n tn The danger is that the diabetic will get low, not be able to feel it while under the influence of alcohol, and then will not be able to release the emergency stores of sugar to help him- or herself.
1153903 tn?1307740400 It helps cleanse the liver and helps to fight cirrhosis. The hypoglycemia also weakens the liver and the milk thistle combo will help. I would stop drinking for a couple of weeks and try the combo to see if anything improves. If it doesn't or gets worse go to the doctors and have it checked. It would probably be wise to also moderate your drinking even more since your liver is weak. You do not want problems later on, getting old is enough of a pain without adding to it. Best wishes.
Avatar n tn I just had an ultrasound of my liver and I will ask for the ANA and AMA. What are they for by the way?
Avatar n tn I assume you are taking 20mg in the morning and 20mg in the evening? This is really pointless. Lipitor is well known to work while you are sleeping, because the Liver makes most cholesterol at this time. Other statin brands can be taken at any time, probably because they sit in the blood for longer or something, but Lipitor strictly instruct you to take in the evening.
Avatar m tn Hi there well i had a look at those articles on Carcinoid syndromes and H pylori infections and I do not have most of the symptoms of Carsinoid Syndrome and in H pylori none of the symptoms I have and does not cause sweating? But again thanks for your, effort.
Avatar n tn Pls check out your emotional state and coffee or alcohol consumption. Also get your blood sugar, thyroid hormones and liver function tests evaluated. If diagnosed as intention tremors then pls consult a physician.Although they are difficult to treat, but if the condition affecting the cerebellum can be corrected, the tremor may resolve. Hope it helps.Take care and pls do keep me posted on how you are doing.
Avatar n tn Since blood glucose levels can fluctuate widely in healthy subjects, and symptoms of hypoglycemia can be vague and nonspecific, establishing the diagnosis of hypoglycemia as the cause of symptoms is often difficult. When symptoms of hypoglycemia occur together with a documented blood glucose under 45 mg/dl, and the symptoms promptly resolve with the administration of glucose, the diagnosis can be made with more certainty. WHAT ARE THE SYMPTOMS OF HYPOGLYCEMIA?
Avatar n tn Like 2dawn said always consult your doctor another old discussion here. http://www.medhelp.org/posts/Hepatitis-C/HR--mixing-ALA-and-R--ALA-dangerous/show/1292687 I wouldn't consider taking this myself especially during a new treatment. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lipoic_acid This article needs more medical references for verification or relies too heavily on primary sources. 502219 tn?1311357910 Hi, I'm 47 year old NASH patient with cirrhosis. My question regards a new symptoms I am having. During the past several days I have had 2 (spells) of full blown allergic reaction ( hives, difficulty swallowing, rapid heart rate ,cold chills, nausea, etc.)There appears to be no triggers ( no new meds , no environmental changes etc. )Benadryl helps but it takes several hours and I'm exhausted the next day. Can the changes occurring in my Liver cause this. My cirrhosis is at stage A.
Avatar m tn Excess glucose is stored in the liver, and so if the liver isn’t functioning properly then the storage of glucose might be affected.
Avatar n tn The low nighttime levels may also be due to an over response to fasting. During fasting the liver produces glucose and the pancreas continues to put out insulin... In your case it may be that the pancreas is putting out more insulin than the liver's glucose production requires and hence the low numbers. You may find that a bedtime protein snack may help prevent you going so low overnight.
