Hypoglycemia and seizures

Common Questions and Answers about Hypoglycemia and seizures

hypoglycemia

Avatar n tn A very severe low like the one your son had CAN indeed cause seizures. And those seizures stop as soon as the blood sugar levels are normalized. Usually, some twitching of muscles, sometimes shaking hands, sometimes twitch to face, happens first, so watch for those symptoms. I would suggest that you look very carefully at his diet, avoiding all high-glycemic index foods and caffeine.
Avatar f tn t find any epileptic tenancies and since it was only one seizure to not worry about it. I know hypoglycemia can cause seizures, but is it likely and what tests can we request from the doctors to try to confirm this (he has tried a fasting blood test of 12 hours and it came back fine)?
Avatar n tn but i i actually see her seizures. after the seizure she is very tired and sweaty and thirsty. I always get her something to eat & drink.within 30 minutes- 2 hours, she is totally fine. is there a certain doctor type i should have her see.? I am really worried. what should I do??
Avatar n tn I don't know too much about diabetic seizures but I had thought they occur primarily with lows. This would be something to ask the doctor. The websites aren't for (live) support groups they are for online information and support. You would have to ask locally through a doc or endo for live support groups. I'll send you the websites by message as I'm asked not to post other message boards here.
Avatar n tn Hi, I'm new to the site and have found it extremely helpful. I have had Type I diabetes for 10 years now, and have never come across something so useful before. Keep up the great work^^ Onto my question. A couple of weeks ago, I was taken to the hospital by ambulance secondary to a "low blood sugar seizure." I have no recollection of a four hour period before I went to sleep, and then 3 hours after I was found seizing and taken to the emergency room.
1523917 tn?1302215871 so, what can cause these things to happen and is there anything else I need to know about hypoglycemia?
Avatar n tn many infectious diseases including Lyme disease, endocrine disorders, hypoglycemia, toxins, parasites, cancers, and many more. Some seizures can cause damage to the brain, hyperthermia (which can effect all organs of the body), can cause additional trauma, can cause cardiovascular abnormalities (abnormal heart function). If the seizure is due to an insulinoma, for example, the hypoglycemia that the insulinoma causes can be life threatening, if untreated.
Avatar n tn 30 I was bouncing in the bed and he gave me o.j and sugar. He said I bit the cup. Once EMS was there they gave me a tube of glucose and checked my sugar which was 53. Could this have been caused by me taking wellbutrin and ambien?
Avatar n tn My boyfriend often finds me having seizures in my sleep and I wake up in an ambulance with no recollection of anything. I recently moved in to my own place after I broke up with my boyfriend but now I am scared if this happens and no one is there to help me, what will happen? Is there a chance that I can die from this?
Avatar n tn The symptoms are vary varied and might include dizziness, feeling generally out of it, fatigue, irritability, disorientation, tingling. Testing is the key as if your numbers have been high for awhile you will feel low even if you're not. You should treat any lows below 60 (some treat below 70) with a couple glucose tablets. You will learn the correct number for you.
Avatar n tn Please clear this up for me. In your website, it says that prolonged hypoglycemia can cause seizures or loss of consciousness? By "prolonged" do you mean within the moment or do you mean prolonged meaning as in years? I hope you mean in the moment because one has hypoglycemia for life, right? Also, that doesn't happen often does it? If your blood sugar drops and you eat,and then feel better, that stuff should not happen right?
Avatar n tn I copied and pasted this post from a question in the archives. I thought maybe it could help you and your husband with not recognizing the lows. As for long term effects I do not know. I think it is a bit off that he would not have any sort of responsiveness even when his blood sugar was 167. Maybe there is another problem going on and the advice given about being examined further by another doctor is a good suggestion.
Avatar n tn s why I think i may have hypoglycemia. I think my fear of seizures while having my panic attacks comes from me knowing that hypoglycemia can cause seizures. I also occasionally see a little sparkly spot in my vision, and sometimes i see weird kind of sparkly diamond-like patterns when i wake up. My panic always starts anywhere around about 8:30am to 10:30am while i am in school, and lasts anywhere from about 10 minutes to like half an hour. Fresh air and snacks help.
Avatar m tn Many things can cause passing out. Seizures is one of them, but diabetes, hypoglycemia, and heart problems can also cause fainting.
543578 tn?1214412007 I asked what happened he said that Buster just started to shake and making this weird face and his mouth was like distorted and he started foaming at the mouth then it was over. Well today he did the same thing for no reason it just happened and this time I noticed his eyes got real big and it looked like he was in a trance or something, I of course freaked out when he started to salivate uncontrollably and then he started to foam at the mouth. it only lasted a few seconds then he was fine.
Avatar f tn I have a 6mth old Chihuahua puppy that's has been having episodes where he starts yelping and then goes stiff then limp and for a split second stops breathing. Afterwards he seems as if he is extremely week and lays there, when he tries to lift his head he is really shaky. After bout a min or so he is fine and just wants alot of water. I have heard of Chihuahua's have hypoglycemia and seizures. But when i have looked up the symptoms of them both these do not match.
Avatar n tn I tell you this from personal experience and from lots of reading about hypoglycemia and research being done on this subject. The last time I got low while out, I bought a candy bar and ate it, forgetting to follow my own advice, and I was surprised at how long it took to 'kick in'. Juice is much better, and Gatorade even quicker than juice. If he is this low, the Gatorade is the best solution if he can drink it.
Avatar f tn I read the article "Read this before you post"...but I HAVE had my dog to the vet for his seizures...He is a 6 year old blue chihuahua, named Little Boy Blue :). He had his first seizure about 4? years ago, had his next one maybe a year later ( not as severe) and the blood work came back showing only an elevation in his liver levels. (they said only).
Avatar n tn It is just a diagnostic aid and is often normal in people having seizures. It can also be abnormal in those not having seizures. Hypertension, diabetes, strokes or transient ischemic attacks too should be looked into. A CT scan or MRI of the brain should be done to rule this out. The third possibility is cervical nerve compression very high up. Again an MRI will be diagnostic. It could also be due to hypoglycemia. It is difficult to comment beyond this at this stage.
Avatar f tn about 3 weeks ago i had my first seizure. my fiance took me to the er and they did a CT scan and found a 9 by 4 mm calcium deposit on the right side of my brain. they sent me to a dr that ordered an MRI and EEG test. they have yet to cLl me with the results so i have been doing my own research. going by what my fiance said about the seizure ( i dont remember any of it at all ) that i had, i ahd a grand mal seizure.
Avatar n tn Also if some glucose or candy helps in controlling it, then it’s most likely due to hypoglycemia. It could also be seizures. Consult a neurologist. A negative EEG does not rule out seizures. Also take a video recording of the tremors with you to the neurologist. This would also help in diagnosis. I would suggest you get the blood levels of the following checked if they have not already been checked: potassium, calcium, sodium, vitamin B complex, or vitamins B1, B3, or B6 and Vitamin D.
Avatar n tn s disease), low blood sugar levels, and in some cases, diabetes, may lead to hypotension and hence lightheadedness and an off balance feeling. Certain types of epilepsies and seizures too can cause similar symptoms. If you have an accompanying headache then you must also look at benign intracranial hypertension. Heart problems too should be ruled out in your case. If all other tests are normal, maybe an ECHO should be done to rule out mitral valve prolapse.
