Avatar f tn This can be due to overproduction of insulin, certain disorders of the adrenal glands and the pituitary gland, liver and kidney disease, and certain medications. The way to begin to treat your hypoglycemia is to work with your doctor to find the underlying cause. Treating the cause will help to treat the hypoglycemia. I hope this helps.
Avatar m tn This could be due to hypoglycemia, especially if taking sweet things or eating help you. Many women who suffer from hypoglycemia have polycystic disease of the ovary associated with insulin resistance. Increased insulin levels can cause hypoglycemia. Poor eating patterns too can be a cause. Other rare causes are insulin secreting tumors or insulinomas, and certain medications. It is difficult to comment beyond this at this stage. You need a 24 hr glucose monitoring.
Avatar n tn the toxin is so dangerous, it will focus on cleaning it out TO THE EXCLUSION of doing any other liver jobs. Thus, if we happen to go low, we cannot count on our liver to also convert glycogen into life-saving glucose for us. The result can be disastrous! If we go low and are unable to detect it, we will continue to drop ... if we are not treated, we will continue to drop. Since alcohol impairs many cognitive functions, it's potentially a deadly combination, as you have read.
Avatar n tn Your initial symptoms may be related to hypoglycemia. There are rare causes of this problem, related to endocrine disorders, liver dysfunction or in very rare instances related to an insulin producing tumor. You should have an echocardiogram to assess your ejection fraction and for the presence of any valvular heart disease. And for the palpitations you may have an event monitor or holter monitor to document and characterize any tachycardias.
Avatar m tn Since she has temperature fluctuations the first things to be ruled out are thyroid disorders, adrenal gland problems, anemia, diabetes, hypoglycemia, liver diseases, low Vit B12, and vasovagal attacks. Since I cannot examine her and know other related conditions she may be having, nor is a detailed history possible on net, I have listed the various possibilities that should be looked into. Please consult your PCP for primary examination followed by proper referral. Take care!
Avatar n tn In some patients, symptoms of hypoglycemia occur during fasting (fasting hypoglycemia). In others, symptoms of hypoglycemia occur after meals (reactive hypoglycemia). Drug-induced hypoglycemia is seen with the inadvertent or intentional overdose of insulin or oral medications used to lower blood glucose. Blood glucose-lowering pills and insulin are medications used to lower the abnormally high blood glucose levels in patients with diabetes mellitus.
Avatar m tn There are several types of fatty liver disease - simple fatty liver disease (steatosis), non alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), alcoholic fatty liver.and nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) which can be very serious. The point is a fatty liver can cause inflammation and result in an enlarged liver and elevated liver enzymes. Since viral and autoimmune hepatitis have been ruled out in your case I think your fatty liver might well be causing your elevated liver enzymes.
Avatar f tn Take the time to Google and learn about Hypoglycemia and also LADA [Latent Autoimmune Disease in Adults] which is a type of Hypoglycemia and often misdiagnosed as Hyperglycemia. Good luck.

Avatar n tn Shaky hands can be due to stress and anxiety, too much consumption of caffeine or alcohol, low blood sugar (hypoglycemia), autoimmune disease like multiple sclerosis, thyroid disorders, nerve compression in the spinal area, and liver disease. I think you should discuss these possibilities with your doctor. It is difficult to comment beyond this without examining. A comprehensive investigation is required keeping all the points in mind. Hope this helps. Take care!
Avatar n tn Shaky hands can be due to stress and anxiety, too much consumption of caffeine or alcohol, low blood sugar (hypoglycemia), autoimmune disease like multiple sclerosis, thyroid disorders, nerve compression, and liver disease. Cut down on smoking, alcohol and coffee, if you take them in more quantity. Eat on time. Do deep breathing exercises. Do discuss this with your doctor and get yourself examined. Take care!
Avatar f tn 1) I have had an intense sweet craving the past couple days (sometimes they say this is related to liver damage, I thought of attributing this to the fact that I had two giant cokes (normally I drink the mini cokes) the past couple of mornings, so I have messed up my blood sugar for the day, forcing me to crave more sugar. I have had problems with hypoglycemia (non-liver disease related) but I don't usually crave sugar unless it is in the form of Coca Cola :p).
Avatar f tn To be honest Jenn, I have no idea. I did read about it a few weeks ago that the liver has something to do with glucose when I was reading up about how to cure diabetes. It was all very complicated. HbA1c and the A1c blood test is the same. It is just that the Hb which stands for haemoglobin has been missed off. If you are going for the blood tests, just ask to make sure that the liver function is also included. It sounds to me like you are not eating enough.
Avatar n tn We are not doctors on this Forum, but folks who either are parents of type 1 children or type 1 diabetic folks ourselves. Yes, your symptoms do sound like those of hypoglycemia, but an infection can also cause drenching sweats. When your body is battling an infection, stress hormones are released, and it is possible, I suppose, that your body is just not functioning at its best right now. Whether you have had mild hypoglycemia before or not, of course, we can't tell.
Avatar n tn We are adjusting my thyroid medication as my symptoms are severe along with a 12 pound weight gain in 6 weeks. We tested for Cortisol for Cushings Disease. I don't understand everything. Cortisol Urine Free per volume 109 mg. Cortisol Urine Free 24 hr 1989 (700-1600 standard range) Thanks!
Avatar f tn These are vague symptoms for hypoglycemia. I would see an Endocrinologist and have some bloodwork done.

1714226 tn?1308625105 Hi, my name is Patty and I am 29 years old. To say that liver disease runs in my family would be a huge understatement, for my grandmother, aunt, and my father have all died of cirrhosis of the liver. Neither of the 3 were alcoholics either. Since the age of 18, I have had routine checkups and blood work, keeping a close eye on my liver function and health. In January of 2010, I was diagnosed with gallbladder disease and had surgery to remove it.
Avatar f tn bleeding varices and severe ascites. Does he also have hepatic encephalopathy (confusion, disorientation, forgetfulness, unusual behavior)? Does he take any medications to prevent a reoccurence of the varices or the ascites? If he continues drinking, my uneducated guess would be that these symptoms will reoccur fairly soon. His liver is already damaged beyond repair, so not drinking was helping his liver.
