Avatar f tn I do have shortness of breath that internist says may be related to high blood pressure, and cardiologist says may be related to mild sleep apnea (5 is normal and mine is 7)...I need a milder blood pressure med that does not fatigue me. I am 72 yr old female. Any suggestions?
1553775 tn?1325182402 I am really skeptical about taking this medication, or any medication for that matter. I am 21 years old and I cannot figure out why my blood pressure is high in the first place. I do have a lot of anxiety problems and I wonder if that contributes to it. I also take Paxil for my anxiety and I have been told that can cause high blood pressure.
Avatar n tn Hello, What the doctor means to check is for phreochromocytoma. Pheochromocytoma is a neoplasm of the adrenal medulla. Only 10% of adrenal pheochromocytomas are malignant, while the rest are benign tumors. They may lead to potentially life-threatening high blood pressure, or cardiac arrythmias, and numerous symptoms such as headache, palpitations, anxiety attacks, sweating, weight loss, and tremor.
1398693 tn?1343684738 Many diuretics (sometimes called water pills) decrease potassium in the blood. Diuretics lower blood pressure by helping your body eliminate sodium and water, which reduces blood volume and decreases pressure on your artery walls. When your body excretes excessive amounts of water, it also loses potassium. This can lead to low potassium levels in your blood (hypokalemia). There are potassium-sparing diuretics that don't cause this problem.
Avatar m tn I know hydrochlorothiazide can be used for blood pressure, but you do seem to be on a strange mixture of medication. When you exercise you will become dehydrated much quicker than anyone else and dizziness can be a sign of this. Are you drinking plenty of fluids when playing squash?
Avatar m tn I am not trying to avoid your question but here is a list of drugs for high blood pressure. You can see what I mean about there being manmy drugs. Hypertension Drugs Chemical and Brand Names By Richard N. Fogoros, M.D., About.com Guide Updated June 30, 2011 The following is a list of the most common drugs and drug combinations used to treat hypertension (high blood pressure).
Avatar f tn around 80 - 90), and also put me on hydrochlorothiazide for water retention. Is this high of blood pressure and pulse normal because of my pcos? I am overweight, 230 lbs, 5' 7". But I walk 2 1/2 miles 3 to 5 days a wk. I have retained water for years, which i always figured was from my pcos. No one in my family has bp problems. I take 2000 mg a day of metformin. I have also been having hot flashes with sweating.
Avatar n tn However, this could also be due to some medications such as the combination of lisinopril and hydrochlorothiazide that is used to treat high blood pressure. Lisinopril is in a group of drugs called angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE) while Hydrochlorothiazide is in a class of diuretics. Tingling in the hands and feet along with dizziness, headache and cough are some of the effects that are observed in this drug combination.
Avatar n tn The doctor put me on 20 mg of lisinopril and 12.5mgmyl of hydrochlorothiazide. He also ran an EKG, chest xray and blood work, all of which came back normal except they described the EKG as borderline (but they didn't say what that meant). I then had an echocardiogram, which they said the results were normal for someone with an elevated blood pressure (but they didn't explainn what that meant).
1243333 tn?1296446902 I have extensive CAD with mutiplable stent placement in the past 22 months, and have high blood pressure (Usally 180/110 And higher), what effect does the high blood pressure have on CAD and angina. I am on bp meds. (norvasc, imdur, toprol XL, spirolactone, valturna, cattapress tts, iron, dexilant & carfate).
Avatar n tn I have been taking Lisinopril and Hydrochlorothiazide (HTCZ) for high blood pressure since May 2007. Recently I have a feeling that the Hydrochlorothiazide is not working as it used to be. Will HCTZ lose its effectiveness after a certain number of years? Anyone know the answer or having similar experience, please let me know. Thank You In Advance For Your Reply.
Avatar n tn This is the first time I have been on blood pressure medicine, and the drug has worked very well in terms of my blood pressure itself. I take my pressure at home with an electric blood pressure monitor and I now average about 130 over 72 to 75. My question is, are there side effects associated with lowering blood pressure that much that fast? The reason I ask is that I feel as though I do not have good circulation in my feet.
1355431 tn?1369975306 Im really worried about my husband he is 35 years old and he is on 4 different blood pressure meds. He is on Lisinopril 10mg , Atenolol 50mg, Hydrochlorothiazide 25mg and Amlodipine 10 mg. Even with all theese meds his blood pressure is still way to high! It seems every doctor visit they add more meds. Ok I guess my question is, is it nessasary to be on 4 different blood pressure meds and is it safe? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Avatar m tn Well the doctor did an ekg and said that my heart was enlarged and i had high blood pressure and that she was going to start me on hydrochlorothiazide. Well now I am terrified that I'm going to die very soon from this... has anybody been diagnosed with this? Did it go away after treatment? Please help I'm sooo scared that this is going to take me away from my family... Forgot to mention that I am a 24 year old male about 5'9 160lbs and have asthma.
Avatar f tn Diagnosed recently with high blood pressure. New med Hydrochlorothiazide for 2 weeks. Now my upper gum & roof of mouth are red, swollen, and painful. This is not a listed side affect. What's wrong?
Avatar n tn I wanted to add that she has been on the atenolol for about six years for palpitations and high blood pressure attributed to lyme disease. She has chronic lyme disease so the beta blocker does not help with the crushing fatigue. Atenolol has also caused her psorasis to get VERY BAD. What has anyone been able to taper to, a calcium channel blocker. Or does one need to stay on a beta blocker for life since the heart has become dependent on it?
Avatar n tn Can this be artificially high because of medications taken for other problems i.e. high blood pressure (5mg Norvasc, 12.5mg Hydrochlorothiazide, .1mg clonodine 2x daily), hormone replacement (premarin 1.25), anit-depressant (150xl Wellbutrin), sleep-aid (Ambien) and Prevacid?
Avatar f tn For 3 months now I have been dealing with extreme high blood pressure. Avg. 220/123, accompanied by chest pain in my upper left size of my chest. This pain does not move. I have been put in the hospital 3 times within these 3 months. I get stress tests, ultrasounds, X-rays and blood work. All tests says I am not having a heart attack, but with my blood pressure being high it is making my left side of my heart to struggle and causing my heart walls to thicken..
Avatar f tn But after a month, my bp came down over 30 points. Losartin blocks a hormone in the blood that can raise blood pressure. My life style was not altered AT ALL when I started taking Losartin and my blood pressure did come down. I didn't feel good on the medication for the first two weeks. Then things normalized. I have no side effects at all from it. What dose were you on and did they tell you to discontinue it? Anxiety and stress CAN raise our bp into spikes.
Avatar m tn In both drugs, the diuretic is a very small dose at 12.5 mg. This is a very common high blood pressure med and both have the same potential side effects so I would think your symptoms are not related to your change in meds. You should discuss this with your doctor to be safe. There are many benefits to a diuretic, most BP meds have this as well. The idea is to decrease your fluid volume load which makes it easier for the heart to function and to help prevent the asorbtion of salt.
471949 tn?1236904026 My doc (VA doc) just put me on spironolactone for my hbp (25mg x1) because my other med was causing my potassium levels to go dangerously low. Problem is, the new med caused me to swell badly and for some reason my blood pressure was low. So, to fix the swelling problem, the VA doc (they aren't the smartest)....doubled the med!!!! Now I have low blood pressure and am dizzy all the time, but doc is happy that the swelling is better and my potassium is normal.
478554 tn?1208034407 I seek alternative Hyrochorothiatide Diuretic HZT drug to avoid the side effect of raise Triglycerides. I have medium high blood pressure problem for years. Avatar f tn I am a 50 yr old female, obese, high blood pressure, otherwise generally healthy. For most of my life I have had high pulse rate, resting or not. I have not always been overweight but have had high blood pressure since my early 20's. I was in emerg in my 20's with tachycardia (125+ bpm) while stressed. My resting pulse rate is around 80 and over. It's not hard to find my pulse at 118 while shopping.
Avatar m tn You should check out with your physician to evaluate other causes of raised blood pressure. Also blood test for high cholesterol levels and blood sugar levels should be done. The answer is based on information provided. Exact advice is not possible without a proper examination and investigations. You are requested to consult your Doctor. Take care and keep us posted.
Avatar n tn Hi, There can be many causes of fluid retention like dietary deficiency of B1 and proteins, some medications like antihypertensives for high blood pressure, certain diseases of kidney, heart and lungs can cause fluid retention. Also hypothyroidism is another cause. I would suggest you to consult a physician and get his complete physical examination done, the doctor may also certain blood tests.
1398693 tn?1343684738 This should be discussed with your doctor. The med may be lowering your blood pressure too low and the dose needs to be adjusted. I have that ringing in my ears also, even on the proper dose, so that may not go away.
Avatar m tn Perhaps the condition you have requires a stronger medication. Hydrochlorothiazide is often the first prescribed when blood pressure is elevated, is that why you are taking it?
