Common Questions and Answers about Humira side effects ulcerative colitis

humira

Avatar f tn My 39 year old daughter struggled with ulcerative colitis from the age of 27 to 32, when it could no longer be managed by drugs. At 32 she had her large intestine removed. She had the pouch surgery (three surgeries, 2-3 months apart) and has had to be on antibiotics for more than 4 years for pouchitis. She recently suffered from a partial blockage and her doctor discovered during a CT scan that the inflammation has travelled into the small intestine (12 inches).
Avatar f tn Any body else taking humira? I have Ulcerative colitis and thats the meds they put me on. My condition is pretty bad because all three of my doctors told me not to come off the meds. That it could cause problems and early delivery. Any one?
Avatar m tn Sorry about your ulcerative colitis diagnosis. Does the humira help? A doctor at the VA diagnosed you with this and prescribes your medication. The maintenance dose of Humira is typically 40 mg after the starting regime that is often higher doses. Are you still having symptoms at your maintenance dose? https://www.drugs.com/dosage/humira.
18894824 tn?1469465363 Even though you were on this med before and did fine you can go back on a med and have side effects. Or, side effects can show up at any time with any med. The weight gain is from the steroid, not from being inactive. My sister has to take a steroid sometimes and when she does she can put on a great deal of weight in no time. Humira comes with a long list of possible side effects. I really think this is what your Dr should be looking in to.
Avatar f tn I was diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis in 2008. It recently flared up. Its the worst its ever been and I am miserable. I was on Azathioprine, Canasa, and a taper of Prednisone with no relief. Just started Humira yesterday. Four shots to the stomach....ouch! Today along with my flare symptoms (lots of bleeding, constipation, bloating, abdominal pain, fatigue, dry mouth, occasional nausea) I have the chills with a very low grade fever and my fatigue is worse than normal.

Avatar f tn 16 years age I was diagonsed with ulcerative colitis. My entire colon was removed . I had a temporary iliostomy then 3 months later experienced a successful reversal. Today I am recovering from a ruptured bowel, I once again have an iliostomy, and have been diagonsed with Crohn's disease. The first line of treatment was 4 weeks on Pentasa and Rowasa. Following a scope last week, the crohn's is clear in the small intestine and I am feeling pretty good. (still 30 lbs underweight).
Avatar f tn I was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis in early stage. Right now I am talking Lialda 1.2 mg 3 tablets once a day. The above symptoms have totally vanished. But literally I am not eating any spicy food or fibre food. I want to know the diet plan.I really lost weight. I have a new problem past 2 weeks. Every morning around 6.30 am or so i have a contracting pain in my lower left ribs. It's very stabbing and also I have lower back pain.
277836 tn?1359666174 Could this be something else besides ulcerative colitis ? How sensitive is this test he had done (false positives) ?I am 33 years old. How bad is it relly going to get if I dont do his method of treatment?
Avatar n tn However, I have found that to varying degrees Remicade and Humira give me the following side effects. I am trying to find out if these are normal side effects and if anyone has found a way to manage them. Physical therapy is not giving me enough relief at this point.
577603 tn?1217700205 Hi, Has anyone taken the above tablets- they are a steroid and I have been put on them as the doctor is not sure if it is Chron's or Colitis. Just wondered what side effects anyone had experienced on these?
Avatar n tn i am suffering from UlceraTIVE COLITIS FROM LAST SIX MONTHS CAN YOU PLEASE TELL CAN IT BE CURED FULLY.
Avatar m tn s not something to play around with, but after all of the medications I have been on and the crappy side effects.. Sometimes waiting out the rough patches is easier on your body, in my mind. Just remember to keep your doctor in the loop. This person should be your bestfriend when it comes to your bowels. Make sure they know how you feel about your condition, you medications, and the steps you want or may want to take in the future. I would be in a completely different state without my doctor..
483733 tn?1326798446 It did work for me and put my colitis in remission, however the side effects of it are NOT worth it. One of the scariest side effects for me was the fact that long term use of it can cause lymphoma. My doc said for every 1000 people on Imuran one person will get lymphoma, That is not a statistic that I want to be. Prednisone is also one of the worse drugs on the market that anyone could possibly take, but I hvae had to a few times. I would rather take the prednisone anyday then the Imuran.
Avatar f tn Many, many people have taken Asacol without any side effects. I had Ulcerative colitis for 10 years before surgery and never had an issue. The goal is to protect the colon from creating long term damage.
Avatar f tn 6-MP is started if other medications do not help in the treatment of Crohn’s or ulcerative colitis. So, ask your doctor whether some other medication can be used instead of this. The pros and cons of this medication need to be weighed against the pros and cons of having uncontrolled symptoms of Crohn’s or ulcerative colitis. Please discuss with your doctor. Take care! The medical advice given should not be considered a substitute for medical care provided by a doctor who can examine you.
Avatar m tn I have severe joint point pain and I have been told that Celebrex is a huge help for this. I am wondering about side effects and medicine interactions.
Avatar f tn Almost a year ago, I was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis. I have been on 40 mg of prednisone for about 7 months and tapered off the last month or so. I did not gain a lot of weight while on the high dosage, in fact, I lost some weight. However, as I began to taper off and got down to 20 mg, I became really bloated and got moonface. I'm wondering why the symptoms only showed up as I was getting off the medication. There is not a significant gain of weight, but I look 20 lbs heavier.
Avatar n tn I had no troublesome side effects. However, after a right hemi-colectomy (resection of the last part of my small intestine, the ileo-caecal valve and 1st part of the colon) my mtx was stopped for about 9 months. I then had a severe flare with a dangerously high level of C-reactive protein. This was 270 when the norm is 5 or less. My gastro restarted the mtx, 25 mg weekly, and for the first time, introduced infliximab on the 0-2-4-8 weekly protocol.
Avatar n tn I was told before that they "think" that I have ulcerative colitis. I was put on medication. But after it stopped helping, I stopped taking it, and I was fine. Then just recently I have been feeling horrible. Stomach pain, mostly on the right lower region, gas, bloating, nausea, fatigue, and sometimes stabbing pain in my right lower abdomen. I am not pregnant ( that I know of, I have an IUD) And this has been going on for 3 weeks, non stop.
Avatar m tn Probiotics is one of the newer concepts in the market and little long-term research is available though these are unlikely to have severe side effects. I personally would not like to withhold probiotics as long as they are tolerated well. Though apathy is not one of the regular side effects, one may stop these for the time being and get tested for nutritional deficiencies in case it might be involved.
Avatar m tn Immuran. Now there's a whole different balancing act. Having hep C is challenge enough, but then to have to take an immunosuppressive while you're fighting a virus....a whole new level of challenge. And NSAIDS of course, just the ticket for the liver. . But as my GI put it, "the side effects of not taking this stuff are worse than the side effects of taking it." True enough, yet it's cold comfort somehow.
Avatar n tn Hi, Ulcerative colitis is a form of inflammatory bowel disease . Ulcerative colitis is a form of colitis, a disease of the colon , that includes characteristic ulcers, or open sores. The main symptom of active disease is usually constant diarrhea mixed with blood, of gradual onset. IBD is often confused with irritable bowel syndrome , a troublesome, but much less serious, condition.
