Avatar n tn I have noticed the beginning stages of cellulite around the areas where I give the Novolog injection. I am a 27 year old, juvenile onset diabetic. I am thin for my height and have never had a problem with cellulite until the change in medication. Can this be linked to either of the new insulins that I am taking?
Avatar n tn I've never used Novolog, but had used Humalog for quite awhile until about 6 months ago. The Humalog worked pretty well for me,but when i switched to a pump, my doctor had me try Apidra and it's really worked great. My blood sugar comes down a lot faster with the Apidra and it keeps my post meal readings pretty good too....
Avatar n tn I have just switched from Humalog to Novolog. The main reason was so that I could use the Innovo pen, which works very well. The Novopen is also of of a higher quality than the Humalog pens. The other advantage of Novolog is that it starts working more quickly. I don't get the same post-meal spikes that I used to get with Humalog. Maybe you just need a new pen. You should be able to get one free from your CDE. I replace my pens every year as a matter of course.
Avatar n tn I am wondering if anyone else has to change sites so often, and whether it could be the insulin (humalog)? We love the flexibility and precision of the pump, but this has been difficult.
Avatar n tn s it gonna do to my blood sugars if I have this stuff being pumped in me every 3 min at the same basal and bolus rates as Humalog? I just had to start it today. I can't switch back to taking shots because I'm brittle.
Avatar n tn ve seen on Pumping Insulin provide some starting point guides on 2 ratios. The first is the one you mention, and the second is the computation for how many carbos one unit will cover. The specific ratios for each of us is best computed with the help of a CDE ... not because the math is hard (it isn't) but because of the specifics that can play a role in why our ratios would be higher/lower and what factors might suggest we need to change our ratios over time.
Avatar n tn is it harmful to not take insulin or certain evenings if I do intend to eat any carbs and my sugar levels remain within the 4-6.5 range (82-115) for the entire time including whilst I am asleep? I sometimes do this if I am very stressed and do not have a decent appetite and find that as there are no lows or fluctuations, this makes matters a lot easier. Once again I stress that the bg control at these times are perfect.
Avatar n tn Novalog is an excellent drug, but requires a lot of insight and understanding in order not to be a danger to oneself. Many providers will not prescribe Novalog unless you are under a strictly supervised program with weekly reports to a nurse practicioner or physician. Novalog is a fast-acting insulin and it is very easy to get into trouble with it. The amount of Novalog injected depends upon the type of food and the number of calories in the portions ingested.
Avatar n tn It basically suggests that Lantus, along with Humalog and Novolog might have more dangerous side effects, than the beef or pork-based insulins. However this is ONLY speculation and that particular website is not an authoritive source on the subject.
Avatar n tn http://www.jdrf.org and click on the link to Locations in the top menu bar. Call or visit the branch nearest you and ask them who in your area will work with you at low/no cost. Sometimes there are group sessions hosted by JDRF branches that bring wonderful medical professionals to present ideas and answer questions. Those sessions are always free. In general, Regular insulin starts acting much more slowly than Novolog and it has a longer "tail" of activity than Novolog.
Avatar n tn About a month ago I started taking 36 Units of Lantus at bedtime using the Opticlik Cartridge Delivery System and during the day I use Novolog Insulin throaway Flex Pen and that is 12 units before I eat anything. I have had so much problem with that Lantus Opticlik that my Health Providers will switch me to the Levimere Flex Pen after I use up all the lantus cartridges. Is lantus a better insulin or is Levimere just as good as Lantus using it as a basal 24 Hour insulin???.
Avatar n tn com/health/drugs/humalog#humalog-vs-novolog Often Humalog is given with other medication along with it. You may need that approach.
Avatar n tn However, some folks do split their doses half in the am and half in the pm. The most important thing is to take it the same times every day. Any change in your meds you should consult with your doctor first.
Avatar f tn Other options include both pumps (yes, for kids as young as 10 years old) or injections of long-lasting insulins like Lantus to provide a stable rate of ongoing insulin delivery (different for each person) plus either Novolog or Humalog at meals to cover the meals only. It sounds as if the mix is not doing the job properly for your son -- nowadays, you shouldn't have to keep forcing food to catch up with insulin nor should he have to live with high glucose levels several times a day.
Avatar m tn I had much better control when I was using humuln n and humulin r . I am now taking lantus and novolog .I have had to increase my dosages and am still having a hard time getting control of my blood sugars. My aic is 7.8 this quarter vs 8. last quarter. should I go back to using the older drugs that gave me better control?
Avatar f tn In general the bolus dose (Humalog) will influence the blood sugar two hours after the meal and the basal (lantus) will influence the bg in between meals. You can also fast and do basal testing. If you are willing to learn more about dosing one or both these books will help. If not, and the results are not good bg management then a visit to an endo might be in order.
Avatar n tn ) Personally, (and I am not promoting a particular company or anything) we (my son and I) have been VERY please with the pump and if given the chance to go back to shots, he would say, "No, Mom, what are you crazy?
Avatar n tn m not a medical professional, just the parent of a kid with diabetes. Humalog and Novolog are different types of fast acting insulin, meaning that they are quickly absorbed into your system to immediately drop your blood sugar. Some people find that one works more effectively than the other, so which is used is really up to the patient. Humulin, more commonly called Humulin NPH, and even more commonly called just NPH, is a long acting insulin.
Avatar n tn m 19 been diabetic since I was 4 and and I have gained 15-20 pounds with my new insulin regimen started about 6 months ago.I take humalog on sliding scale 1 unit per 10 carbs and I take it every time I eat and I also take 50 units of lantus at bed time.So my question is can this be causing my weight gain? I think the lantus initially caused me to gain about 20lbs. to begin with 6yrs. ago and I'm now over weight.I'm on my feet constantly at work 9 hrs.
704262 tn?1247674638 Yes, you can take Novolog and Lantus in separate injections, but they may not be mixed in the same injection or at the same injection site. Generally Novolog is only prescribed if you follow a strict physician-approved routine. If you have a meter and strictly monitor results of various combinations under vary circumstances use of both medications should cause no problems. Be careful using the Novolog because you can easily drop your blood sugar to very low levels.
Avatar n tn At about week 2 or 3 I began experiencing sporadic rash in front of shins. Later, the itching and raised bumps appeared behing the knee at top of calves. Now I think it is appearing at left elbow. General feelings of itchiness accompany the outbreaks without apparent rash. I am attributing this to the new medication - Lantus - as all else remains basically stable in my life routine.
1340011 tn?1276617767 I take humalog 75-25 now in the morning and before dinner. I believe I need to cut back on my carbs sort of like the fiber diet (can't think of the name of it) I have some issues 2 herniated disks in my neck and I broke my foot (which stills hurts when walking too far) so exercising is a bit hard but I am trying to do water aerobics 3 nights a week which is hard to do and then I am going to try stationary bike. I am overweight by about 70 pounds. I had it all off and gained it back.
Avatar m tn Is it common for someone with type 2 diabetes to be on Humalog 3X daily and Lantus 1X daily?
