Common Questions and Answers about How long do avonex side effects last

avonex

Avatar f tn Does anyone know of long-term side-effects of Avonex? I've had about 8 or 9 injections so far - was diagnosed a few mos. ago. I will see the (MS) dr. in 2 days, a 3 month follow-up visit. Does anyone know of any questions I should ask her? Thank you very much! I appreciate any feedback.
462771 tn?1358355843 ve been on it since February of this year. I do get flu-like side effects still. But they do not last as long now. Maybe 48 hours. I did have to go on an anti-depressant for the first time in my life. But I can not say it was Avonex alone that caused the depression. I think the mix of being dx'd with MS, the loss of some of my function, and the medications all mix together caused depression.
Avatar f tn Worth nothing is that the flu-like side effects of Avonex often are less troubling after the first few weeks or months, but I've never seen anyone suggest that the mood-related side effects dissipate.
1125401 tn?1262898927 I have been on copaxone for little over a year its not working for me so my neuro has asked me to try avonex. My avonex nurse is coming this evening but I am wondering how long you actually gave it to get the symptoms of the shot to calm down. I am crossing everything to hope I dont get the flu symptoms so bad but we will see. I have a husband that works away and 3 small kids to care for, I dont want to be in bed all weekend when its the only time we get to spend as a family.
Avatar m tn go to my nero. on friday morning. is this normal after doing avonex? i seem like i cant do anything very long at all. it wears me out and i hurt all the time. my left leg just dont do what its surpose to do. i trip and when i reach for something its like i get a sharp pain in my back. is this normal for ms? and thanks for all the help you wonderfull people have given me iin the past.
Avatar n tn I haven't heard about Avonex causing those side effects long term. It may be worth it to have your blood glucose checked. Having diabetes can cause this delay in healing. As always, your doctor knows best.
Avatar f tn But, at this point anything is better then the side effects of the Avonex. I will let you know how it goes.
324913 tn?1302869517 In the beginning, I too, took it before bed to sleep off the side effects but on the good side, most of the side effects have vanished or are easily managed, atleast in my case. Feeling like "Crap" in most cases goes away over time. Hang in there!
Avatar f tn I was on Avonex for several years. No digestive problems but many flu-like symptoms, worse sometimes than others. I learned from experience that these effects would start 2 or 3 hours after my shot, so I did it at night before bed, after which I took 2 Aleve, since these are long-lasting. The net result was that I'd sleep through whatever the Avonex side effects might be, buffered by Aleve.
233622 tn?1279334905 Sorry to hear you're still experiencing some side effects from the Avonex. Hopefully, with the additional reduction in dosage you'll feel better soon. Like you, I am relatively new to Avonex (started Dec. 07) and am still experiencing new symptoms. I suppose its hard to know if its working or not since the symptoms could be worse. Granted, I'm starting to have difficulty walking which is surprising to me since I was just diagnosed in November.
Avatar n tn True, the worst effects may come before sleep time, but any side effects are more likely out of the way by work time at 6 a.m. Sunday. And by being awake, you can maintain the dosing of acetaminophen or whatever drug at two every however many hours, and you can keep drinking lots of water. To Aroma_1, the official documentation says that you have to have injections 48 hours apart. I would recommend doing whatever you can to maintain a consistent schedule, especially early in treatment.
405614 tn?1329144114 Last night I gave myself my eighth Avonex injection with the new, thinner needle, and it was much easier. I was so happy with it, and snuggled down in bed, with plenty of blankets, my ankle-length long-sleeved night gown and big fuzzy socks It got cold here last night, so I had the heater on more than usual. Fluffy was snuggled up against my side. I woke up about 1:30 am just FREEZING, I mean I had chills and was shivering so hard it felt like it was pulling my ribs out of place.
Avatar f tn re having a discussion on the MS forum about whether one can skip a dose of Avonex to avoid the major side effects during the holiday festivities. Some who take Avonex feel quite sick for a day or two. I'm lucky not to, but still this is a good question. Perhaps you could answer in terms of all 4 DMDs. Thank you.
Avatar f tn Nevine, welcome to the MS forum. Wow, you live in Egypt--a place that I would love to one day visit! MS is very unpredictable, so it's hard to say how long an attack will last. First attacks will sometimes be very hard and last for several weeks or even months, but this is so variable. Also, attack times will even vary in the person themselves. My last attack only lasted a couple of days. However, I've had attacks that have lasted several months.
