Common Questions and Answers about Avonex long term side effects

avonex

Avatar f tn Does anyone know of long-term side-effects of Avonex? I've had about 8 or 9 injections so far - was diagnosed a few mos. ago. I will see the (MS) dr. in 2 days, a 3 month follow-up visit. Does anyone know of any questions I should ask her? Thank you very much! I appreciate any feedback.
Avatar n tn I haven't heard about Avonex causing those side effects long term. It may be worth it to have your blood glucose checked. Having diabetes can cause this delay in healing. As always, your doctor knows best.
462771 tn?1358355843 Hi Jason, Avonex was not an option for me from my neuro so I went with copaxone, a daily injection of a totally different type drug with no side effects. I passed on the Rebif because it has the same side effects as avonex, but is injected three times a week. If avonex, with its once a week injection had been an option I would have seriously considered it instead of the copax.
Avatar f tn If you stay on the Avonex I would ask your doctor to check your liver function and other levels with a blood test every 3-6 months for the first year to make sure your body is handling it well. Are you having any side effects now from the Avonex, such as depression, flu-like symptoms, etc? I am on Avonex now and the website is helpful. Also, did you get an info packet when you started? I found that helpful, too. Why do your doctors think its MS? Have you seen an MS specialist?
Avatar f tn Worth nothing is that the flu-like side effects of Avonex often are less troubling after the first few weeks or months, but I've never seen anyone suggest that the mood-related side effects dissipate.
Avatar f tn I'm sorry you feel so poorly. I haven't started any disease modfying drug yet, that will come in mid August. I've heard this about Avonex. The National MS Society website has some great info: www.nationalmssociety.org Here is what is a small portion of what is said about Avonex side effects: "Flu-like symptoms are a fairly common side effect during the initial weeks of Avonex treatment. It is recommended that you take your Avonex injection before bedtime.
Avatar f tn Thanks. i shot a week is all I can handle. I'm almost sure I will go back on the Avonex. With Ibuprofen, I wouldn't get the side-effects from the shots. Not even sure it was the Avonex that was getting me sick. I will keep in mind that I could always switch to something else. Thanks!
Avatar f tn -) I want to emphasize again that many Gilenya users have not reported intolerable side effects. Now that it appears that there are no long-term adverse effects for me, I’m thankful that at least I gave it a try. My switch to Gilenya was part of a Phase IV clinical trial (see http://clinicaltrials.gov/ct2/show/NCT01216072?term=fingolimod&rank=8), so the drug company certainly will find out about the side effects, perhaps the FDA does as well.
Avatar f tn Jails, institutions or death are the most common long term side effects I have seen, or the person quits and has a program of recovery. Why do you ask?
Avatar f tn i wonder did a doctor tell you you had multiple chemical sensitivites....
Avatar n tn I have read all the side effects but it is hard finding anything on the severe long term effects of taking this drug. Does anyone know a link or maybe some answers?
Avatar f tn What are the long term side effects of taking Gabapentin for long term pain control?
Avatar n tn That's a good one! I sure hope I get that long term side effect.
747988 tn?1396536878 hi folks-just looking around for info re long term side effects of treatment and came across you lot ranting away on your keyboards! I successfully completed 6months tx in april 2007 and am now unable to do very much due to the fatigue, pain and confusion I've suffered since. Just wanted to be added to the list of damaged souls. Have lost a lot of friends to this horrible disease so am very glad to have cleared it but at what cost?
1689583 tn?1387752394 I am reading there are long term side effects with treatment, I am getting the heebie jeebies I have been positive till now but need to know if this is true.
Avatar f tn m especially worried about its long term side effects. I wonder if you experienced any problem after you stopped taking Avonex. Any attacks, etc?
Avatar n tn It is a good thing that your doctor says you are stable, but if you aren't able to continue the avonex for whatever reason, that could easily change. Please go back to your neuro and stress what you have told us here. good luck.
195469 tn?1388322888 I feel that talking to someone that has personal experience with the drugs, is the best way to really learn about the side-effects and their efficacy-long term. Of course, everyone reacts to different drugs in different ways and to varying degrees. Lump the information together, to get a general idea of how they may work for you. For those of you on Interferons, make sure that your doctor is doing follow up blood work, at least every 6 months to check how your liver is handling the drug.
Avatar n tn Levoxly's long term side effects if taken at the right dose are very rare, with the most common being hair loss nothing new to most of us here.
1125401 tn?1262898927 I have been on copaxone for little over a year its not working for me so my neuro has asked me to try avonex. My avonex nurse is coming this evening but I am wondering how long you actually gave it to get the symptoms of the shot to calm down. I am crossing everything to hope I dont get the flu symptoms so bad but we will see. I have a husband that works away and 3 small kids to care for, I dont want to be in bed all weekend when its the only time we get to spend as a family.
Avatar n tn True, the worst effects may come before sleep time, but any side effects are more likely out of the way by work time at 6 a.m. Sunday. And by being awake, you can maintain the dosing of acetaminophen or whatever drug at two every however many hours, and you can keep drinking lots of water. To Aroma_1, the official documentation says that you have to have injections 48 hours apart. I would recommend doing whatever you can to maintain a consistent schedule, especially early in treatment.
Avatar m tn I have no symptoms and feel great; I am 54 and wondering if HEP C would kill me or if the treatment could cause long term effects that could ruin my health. The longest living male in my family was my father 86 and had slow progressive dementia the last 10 years.
