Avatar m tn Do you need hormone replacement after ovary removal in a 63 y.o. post-menopausal women?
Avatar n tn Hi, You raise a goos question, its common for women to think that hrt is just for woemn without ovaries, its actually used even more frequently for women with ovaries naturally entering menopause ( as you are).
Avatar f tn The thing is, these studies are on post menopausal women. I can see where taking a replacement hormone when your body should naturally not be making this hormone anymore could be bad and I wouldn't do it. But what about the people who were thrown into surgical menopause at a time their body would still be producing it?
Avatar f tn Hi I read your last post and it asked about hormone replacement therapy , this is a different thing from hormone blocker pills as hormone replacement is just what it says it replaces the hormones lost after menopause and I believe that blockers are used to treat women that have hormone dependant cancers in that they block the hormones made in the body that feed the cancer .
Avatar n tn Im reading a lot of advice against the use of hormone replacement therapy, but the studies I have researched report that its the combination of progesterone and estrogen that is bad for you, and that estrogen alone may actually decrease the risk of breast cancer. My question then is has anybody else read any studies similar?
Avatar m tn Hi sorry hormone therapy will not help at all , there are no pills or cream to make your penis any bigger , take care ,
Avatar n tn I used folic acid and black cohosh for my symptoms. I really only had hot flashes and night sweats and using folic acid and black cohosh seemed to lessen the frequency and severity for me. This combination doesn't work for everybody. Check with your doctor before taking these supplements because they can intefer with some prescription medicines...especially for thyroid problems.
Avatar f tn A couple of members here, including myself, watched Robin McGraw yesterday speak about bio-identical hormone replacement therapy. Did you know that women as young as their teens can have hormonal imbalances ? And that you can show signs of perimenopause in your 20s... feel horrible and be misdiagnosed with chronic fatigue or fibromyalgia ? And yet the medical field has failed us again on this other issue.
Avatar m tn It stands to reason that disrupting the chemical balance of an otherwise healthy person is going to have negative side effects. That is true of birth control pills and true of hormone replacement therapy. Neither I nor any of my daughters used birth control pills and I did not resort to HRT. Maybe we are out-of-step with the times, but our decisions are medically sound.
Avatar f tn On September 29, 2009 I had a complete hystorectomy with a 10lb adnexal mass removed at MD Anderson. An intestinal type cancer of low malignant potential was found. I am waiting to be sceduled for an MRI & Colonoscopy. After my surgery I was prescribed Effexor for my mood swings and hot flashes. The doctor has continued to increase the dosage up to the highest = 150 mg per day. All it has done for me is turn me into a zombie.
Avatar f tn Hormone therapy is really not reccomended after batteling cancer,,,ask your Dr his opinion of a herbal called Black Kosch it is known to be good for hot flashes do NOT take it without his permission, I have no idea if it is safe for you or not.
Avatar f tn In some cases hormone replacement therapy may increase the Synthroid requirements, typically we repeat 2-3 months after starting HRT.
Avatar f tn These menopausal symptoms can also be the result of chemotherapy, ovarian ablation, and hormone therapy. Women can get relief from these symptoms by opting for Hormone Replacement Therapy for Women. It helps in balancing the estrogen and progesterone levels.
Avatar n tn Recent studies have found birth control pills also increase breast cancer risk, but the evidence hasn’t been as strong as that for hormone replacement therapy (usually prescribed for post menopausal women). Most of the reports depended on women with breast cancer remembering whether they took the pills, when they took them, and for how long. When you'll see your doctor, ask him about this matter,I am sure that you'll be much better informed for everything that is concerning you.

Avatar n tn There may be an initial increase in hair growth or reduction in hair loss experienced by few women when they start taking birth control pills or estrogen replacement pills. Since you have been taking it continuously estrogen levels will stabilize and the natural hair growth cycle might be restored. Long term use of hormonal contraceptives should be discouraged. You may try discontinuing the pill when you are trying to get pregnant. Give your hair extra nourishment and take a balanced diet.

Avatar f tn I'm 38 years old and started hormone replacement therapy last month. I had my first estradiol and testosterone implants and am taking progesterone pills at night. My hot flashes have stopped and my libido has improved some, but I'm bloated like I've never been before-even when I had regular periods. I always exercise and try to eat healthy most of the time-but I've gained 5lbs. over the month- and it's all "jelly-belly" fat. My appetite is ravenous!
