The thing is, these studies are on post menopausal women. I can see where taking a replacement hormone when your body should naturally not be making this hormone anymore could be bad and I wouldn't do it. But what about the people who were thrown into surgical menopause at a time their body would still be producing it?
Your Dr can and should do blood work, because even though it may seem not your ovaries are still trickling just a bit of estrogen so you need to know your hormone levels ( Dr does) to prescribe correct combination or single hormone, what ever you may need.
Im reading a lot of advice against the use of hormone replacement therapy, but the studies I have researched report that its the combination of progesterone and estrogen that is bad for you, and that estrogen alone may actually decrease the risk of breast cancer. My question then is has anybody else read any studies similar?
A couple of members here, including myself, watched Robin McGraw yesterday speak about bio-identical hormone replacement therapy. Did you know that women as young as their teens can have hormonal imbalances ? And that you can show signs of perimenopause in your 20s... feel horrible and be misdiagnosed with chronic fatigue or fibromyalgia ? And yet the medical field has failed us again on this other issue.
On September 29, 2009 I had a complete hystorectomy with a 10lb adnexal mass removed at MD Anderson. An intestinal type cancer of low malignant potential was found. I am waiting to be sceduled for an MRI & Colonoscopy.
After my surgery I was prescribed Effexor for my mood swings and hot flashes. The doctor has continued to increase the dosage up to the highest = 150 mg per day. All it has done for me is turn me into a zombie.
I think hot flushes should be given to men! ;-P
I suffered greatly with hot flushes but, am going through some kind of imbalance somewhere, somehow and am seeking out help from a gynecologist for it. I've also had the weight gain...right around the mid-section. Grrrrrr.
I think that most of us will say that the hot flushes and the weight gain are pretty annoying to say the least. Estrogen can cause weight gain but, can help with the hot flushes some.
Hormone therapy is really not reccomended after batteling cancer,,,ask your Dr his opinion of a herbal called Black Kosch it is known to be good for hot flashes do NOT take it without his permission, I have no idea if it is safe for you or not.
s, who have had ER/PR HER2 negative breast cancer, stage I, no spread to lymph nodes (surgery, followed by radiation and chemotherapy) in regards to hormone replacement therapy due to complete hysterectomy resulting in severe menopause reactions?
Cysts are quite common and often occur with hormonal variation (including menstruation and hormone replacement therapy). Of course, lumpy breast tissue can also swell as a result of hormonal variation. If you are concerned, you should see your doctor for evaluation and he/she can order an ultrasound, if appropriate. Also, just so you are aware, “natural” hormone replacement has the same risks of estrogen exposure as “clinical” HRT. Estrogen is estrogen, whether it is from soy or the lab.
I am a 49 yof two years post menopause. I was on hormone replacement patches for about a year and was taking another type of hormone for two weeks q three months.
That made my cycles start back so I d/c the hormone replacement completely around 5 months ago.
I just went and had a pelvic ultrasound and the results state
The endometrail stripe is prominent, measuring 1.2 cm. This is nonspecific and could represent endometrail hypertrophy. Clinical correlation is recommended.
s plenty of confusion about hormone replacement therapy, which is now commonly called hormone therapy. The truth is that hormone therapy is not a magical cure , but it's still the most effective treatment for unpleasant menopausal symptoms for most women.
Estrogen remains the most effective treatment for relief of troublesome menopausal hot flashes and night sweats. It can also ease vaginal symptoms of menopause, such as dryness, itching, burning and discomfort with intercourse.

Try a diet rich in estrogens. Hormone replacement therapy can also help a few. Worms are another cause of both anal and body itch. Pubic and body lice can be another cause.
I think you should discuss these possibilities with your doctor. It is difficult to comment beyond this without examining. A comprehensive investigation is required keeping all the points in mind.

About 13 months ago I had surgery to remove a pituitary tumor and I am now on full hormone replacement. For the most part my recovery has gone great. However, I believe I do have problems with either the dosage (.125mg) of my thyroid hormone or the drug itself (levoxyl).
I have an endocrinologist that has been with me since the surgery and they refuse to change anything because my T4 level is in the "normal" range at 1.5.
