1208452 tn?1266336929 The hair growth or hirsuitism could be due to the higher testosterone level than is normal in females. The level can be high in androgen resistance, congenital adrenal hyperplasia, ovarian cancer, prolactin secreting tumors and polycystic ovary disease. You need to consult an endocrine specialist to rule out these problems. Treatment can be laser removal, hormone therapy and local creams. Hope this helps. It is difficult to comment beyond this at this stage.
Avatar f tn Hi. Although your androgen (male hormone) levels are normal you are probably very sensitive to their effects. You could take an anti-androgen contraceptive pill like Dianette (Diane35 in the USA). Rather than shaving, have you tried facial hair removing cream? It will be a more pleasant experience for you, and the results will last much longer than shaving. Laser treatment carried out at a skin clinic can permanently remove hair.
Avatar f tn The risk of heart attack is 4 to 7 times higher in women with PCOS than women of the same age without PCOS. Women with PCOS are at greater risk of having high blood pressure. Women with PCOS have high levels of LDL (bad) cholesterol and low levels of HDL (good) cholesterol. Women with PCOS can develop sleep apnea. This is when breathing stops for short periods of time during sleep.
Avatar f tn I am being treated with this with Hydrocortone but with this my testosterone levels is low as is my Free Androgen Index is also low. I am now on transdermal patch of testosterone to try to ignite my libido which has been non-exsistent for years. the dose of 300mg is not enough but my doctor does not want to up dosage. I would like to have a healthy sex life and my marriage is definitely suffering due to this. anyone got any answers to this for me?
Avatar n tn but in your case, because you are still too young to be menopausal,it could indicate excessive androgen production that is a male hormone, but that women also produce.I would have this checked out by your doctor to make sure that there isn't any other reason causing this problem. To remove the hair, the best way is plucking or have them removed by electrolysis. Only be careful because it is a very delicate area and you could run the risk of irritation and infection.
Avatar n tn This type of treatment is one of the appropriate hormone (anti-estrogen) treatments of estrogen receptive breast cancer in post-menopausal women.
Avatar n tn ovarian dysfunction (not ovulating regularly), hyperandrogenism (increased male type hormones on lab testing or clinically increased hair growth), or polycystic ovaries on ultrasound (ovaries which show multiple small cysts on ultrasound). PCOS is a common cause of infertility and puts women at an increased risk of developing Type 2 diabetes. There is also increased risk of insulin resistance, hypertension, and abnormalities of cholesterol and triglycerides in women with PCOS.
Avatar n tn If you have dark hair growing around your nipple,it could indicate excessive androgen production, the typical "male" hormone that women also produce. This can be a sign of a medical condition known as polycystic ovary disease.
Avatar f tn In such cases, prescribing FDA-approved erectile dysfunction medications could be appropriate There has been far less research regarding opiate-induced endocrine deficiencies in women than in men. Hypothetically, androgen treatment would relieve clinical symptoms and reduce risks of osteoporosis in affected women. In younger women, oral contraceptive pills (OCPs) might have benefit; particularly an OCP with a relatively androgenic progestin component.
Avatar f tn The test for sex hormone binding globulin (SHBG) is primarily ordered in conjunction with other tests to evaluate the status of a person's androgen levels - the male hormones. With men, the issue of concern is testosterone deficiency, while with women the concern is excess testosterone production. So no problem indicated there. Not sure why the doctor ran the FSH test for you at age 73.
Avatar n tn s a lot of things it could be, but a couple things are PCOS, hormone imbalance, stress. Only way to know for sure is go to your doctor or an ob/gyn and let them investigate it.
Avatar m tn Pituitary tumors are not rare in the Phillippines - like everywhere else, they are often overlooked or treated symptomatically. If your testosterone is low - what about your LH/FSH, estradiol, DHEA sulfate? As well, Which testosterone? Free, total? Did you have a sex binding hormone test done? All this would be part of a comprehensive androgen check. The thing with hormones that docs seem to fail to remember from their training - is that they work in feedback loops.
Avatar m tn Dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA) is hormone that is naturally produced in our bodies and decreases after the age of 30. It serves as a pre-curser for the sex hormones, androgen and estrogen. There is evidence in support of the use of DHEA for help with adrenal insufficiency, depression, and lupus; however; there are no studies of long term effects. DHEA may increase the risk of prostate, breast, or any hormone sensitive cancers and it is recommended only to be taken under the supervision of a MD.

Avatar f tn The hair growth or hirsuitism could be due to the higher testosterone level. The level can be high in androgen resistance, congenital adrenal hyperplasia, ovarian cancer, prolactin secreting tumors and polycystic ovary disease. However your prolactin levels are normal. Sometimes the cause cannot be found out. Check if according to the lab where it was done the testosterone level is inn normal range or not. The normal range varies from lab to lab.

Avatar m tn We use a low “induction phase” dose which is about half the dose used for typical Cushing’s and that alone in about 3 days reduces adrenal cortex hormone synthesis and sex hormone levels. The reduction in levels of the sex hormones including androstenedione. can be validated with blood work and occurs whether or signs of Cushing’s disease signs such as excessive water drinking improve or not.
Avatar n tn Hi again, I did not realize the link would not show up automatically. The title of the article is "Birth Control Pills Could Cause Long-Term Sexual Problems" dated Jan 9 2006. Avatar f tn Hi there, Metformin is used to lower insulin, androgen, and cholesterol levels. It helps to improve metabolism in women who are insulin-resistant. It helps regulate menstrual cycles, start ovulation, and lower the risk of miscarriage in women with PCOS. Metformin can also help in regularizing menstrual cycles and starting ovulation in about 40-45% of women with PCOS.It may be more effective when taken with Clomiphene .Do consult your gynecologist for more queries. Please keep me posted.
2061409 tn?1330954895 full The sexual arousal disorder in our study population was linked to both interferon-induced depressive symptoms and serum free testosterone decline (confirming the results of studies that did not find a significant correlation between total testosterone and symptoms of hypogonadism (Christ-Crain et al. 2004b)). However, we found no direct link between sex hormone changes and depression.
Avatar f tn When you begin taking thyroxine the areas in the brain that control thyroid hormone production sense the increase in T4 levels within the blood stream. This feedback system will then cause the thyroid glands natural production of thyroid hormones to slow down. Less natural T4 and T3 will then be produced and released and blood levels may remain stagnant or even decrease temporarily. Less free T3 hormone available to the body will slow down cellular metabolism.
Avatar n tn So I was wondering if there is medication that contains whichever ingredients are contained in birth control that has aided in my hair regrowth that I could take so that I can go off the pill when I'm ready to get pregnant and not have my hair fall out again.
