Avatar n tn Zeligs, MD As we age, many tissues in our bodies become chronically inflamed, resulting in an increased risk of weight gain, diabetes, and cancer. By aiding healthy hormone metabolism and assisting the body to recognize and eliminate stressed cells, we can reduce generalized inflammation and slow the progress of aging-related disorders.
Avatar f tn Doctor: Dec. 2004 I rec'd complete thyroidectomy with subsequent RI. 6 weeks post-surgery I began to develop hypo symptoms on 100 mcg. Synthroid. 6 months post I was experiencing extreme multi-hypo symptoms and additionally severy myofascial pain. My muscle pain on minimal exertion felt the same as the "burn" experienced during weight-lifting. I had severe fatigue and had gained 50 pounds in 3 months.
Avatar f tn Bad Marriages Harder on Women's Health More likely than mates to show signs of metabolic syndrome in strained unions, study finds By Kathleen Doheny HealthDay Reporter THURSDAY, March 5 (HealthDay News) -- The cardiovascular damage wrought by an unhappy marriage may be greater for women than men, a new study shows.
Avatar f tn As I've mentioned in my previous post, I have the strong feeling that I have a hormone imbalance. For 3 years, I've been overemotional/irritable/nervous, have had light/skipped periods, persistent acne,(I'm 20 and I don't feel like this should be happening), and hot flashes. These problems have gotten progressively worse over the years. The problem is though, that I feel like I have the symptoms of both estrogen dominance and estrogen deficiency.
5054005 tn?1362922551 Thyroid hormones control the metabolic rate (the amount of energy expended while at rest) so when there is too much thyroid hormone this will cause the metabolic rate to speed up - hyperthyroidism. When there is not enough thyroid hormone the metabolic rate slows down - hypothyroidism. The treatment for hypothyroidism is to take thyroid hormones to increase the metabolic rate.
Avatar f tn I went and had metabolic testing to test my Basic Metabolic Rate and it measured normal for my age and weight and I was symptom free. I then tapered myself off the thyroid and within 2 months all symptoms returned and metabolic testing once again was done, and BMR was extremely low. Back on meds. normal. You know your body best and I am not afraid to put the research in front of a doctor's face. The human body is not black and white.
Avatar f tn oh by the way did anyone else go trawling throught the other articles? This one personally got my attention because i've not ever experienced hunger pangs and i've always been small, i wonder if this could be why... "Scottish scientists say they've determined the hormone that controls the body's hunger pangs may also boost one's memory.
Avatar m tn Most older women are losing bone due to their combined sex steroid, DHEA, Vitamin D, and growth hormone deficiencies. The solution is not life-long hypothyroidism, but the correction of their other deficiencies. " http://hormonerestoration.com/files/ThyroidPMD.
Avatar n tn I documented all the thyroid lab work before and after treatment. I went and had metabolic testing to test my bmr and it measured normal for my age and weight and I was symptom free. Avatar f tn You really should consider a pituitary center so you get better testing (in theory) so get copies of everything and do research so you know if you have a good decent doc instead of one who just does prolactin and says all is well. Pituitary can be complex but it is treatable.
Avatar n tn Hypothyroid patients need adequate thyroid hormone replacement - otherwise diet/exercise efforts are indeed more difficult. More research on thyroid hormone action and metabolism is underway, but new treatments/medications are not yet available.
Avatar m tn In some cases hormone failure actually is to blame for sexual difficulties. And one of the more critical examples is testosterone, the “male hormone.” It is produced in the testes and adrenal gland by way of a complex metabolic process that involves the breakdown of cholesterol A hormone called DHEA (dehydroepiandrosterone), which is broken down into testosterone and estrogen. DHEA has properties of its own that benefit both men and women.
Avatar f tn I am a 39 year old female that feels I have symptoms of an underactive thyroid cold feet, brain fog, weight gain, and sore muscles etc. My labs came back at F TSH 1.23 and F T4 1.3. After doing a little research myself it doesn't look like that's my issue. Are there any other tests to have done to get to the bottom of why I feel like this if it's not an underactive thyroid issue? I had a cbc panel, a cmp panel, and hormonal labs drawn.

Avatar m tn However, my son has other significant medical issues which are more likely the cause of his POTS and EDS (which are both symptom cluster syndromes, not diseases). He has extremely low growth hormone levels and secondary adrenal insufficiency, as a result of a pituitary tumor that caused damage to the gland. He also has some metabolic abnormalities and severe oxidative stress. He is 14. He has an appointment with genetics in November.
Avatar f tn Severe cramps (leg and foot), day and night. The biopsy sugested metabolic myopathy but was not conclusive. Magnesium, potassium, etc are Ok. No history in the family. No hormone problems. No other symptoms. But I can't squat down, can't stand on tip toes, can't do exercise, can't walk on sand, can't do a bunch of things (and this is affecting my work, I'm a civil engineer).
Avatar m tn The "American Journal of Clinical Nutrition" suggests that omega-3 fatty acids can and fish oil can also help you gain weight, as such supplements are calorie-dense due to the fat content and also promote increased muscle protein synthesis, which promotes muscle building. After exercise, consume a high-calorie, high-carbohydrate recovery supplement.
Avatar n tn HYPOTHALAMIC-PITUITARY-THYROID AXIS Individuals with AN often exhibit clinical features of hypothyroidism such as bradycardia, hypothermia, hypotension, dry skin, and reduced metabolic rate. Biochemically, anorexic patients have a constellation of thyroid hormone abnormalities similar to sick euthyroid syndrome with notably low T3 levels and low to normal T4 levels due to decreased peripheral conversion (21).
Avatar f tn Basically you have to find the right doctor and do your own research. I went through dozens of doctors until someone finally agreed that my thyroid was waaay off. It still isnt an easy fix. You have hypothyroidism that was probably set off by changing your diet so many times. The problem is that it effects all of your organs and hormones. There is also an increased chance of autoimmune disease.
Avatar f tn t mentioned Free T3 which is the active thyroid hormone that is the crucial hormone in getting oxygen into the cells and in enabling efficient metabolic function. There are a number of human clinical trials published in medical journals that shows selenium lowers thyroid peroxidase antibodies (TPOAb). Selenium inhibits the genes that produce the attacking antibodies. 200mcg daily of selenium is highly recommended for Hashimoto patients.
1339808 tn?1276321180 Only a series of blood tests could tell you this definitively. Some people need a lot of sleep, some need very little. While the above statement is generally true, it isn't necessarily true for any specific individual. It also depends on how long you haven't slept for and why and what your diet is like. Why aren't you sleeping? Partying too much, working too hard, or anxiety? And how long has it lasted?
Avatar n tn s since I was 19 and I have done a lot of research and experiments with them. I have noticed that caffeine, stress, excitement, exercise and alcohol all trigger PVC's for me. All of these also increase adrenaline. Another thing that makes me think it could be hormone related is that about a year and a half ago I went vegan. While I was vegan I had no constipation or PVC's. I suffer from severe constipation. Our diary and meat are full of hormones.
