Hi, Anti HAV antibody is a test for Hepatitis A antibody not HIV. If you dad had a vaccine or past infections for Hepatitis A it would be positive for IgG antibody and negative for IgM. So, if he had the vaccine he is immune to Hepatitis A. If he didn't have the vaccine he was exposed to in sometime in his life (in the past) and is immune to the virus and is not sick now and won't transmit it to his family or friends. A vaccine is FAR more likely than a cure. For MOST viral infections, there is no cure, and with HIV, a retrovrius, it is unlikely. We still don't have a cure for the common cold, and influenza. A cure would be wonderful, but just think of all the other diseases out there with no cure, only treatments. The thing to be thankful for is how far we've come in the treatment for HIV/AIDS. no risk for both being 17yo even if you get hbv you will clear it with no symptoms unless you use drugs, remember aids is not a consequence of hiv but of drug use of any type.

I fully respect your comments about vaccine's and believe that every parent has the right to choose what their child gets or doesn't get. I just wanted to make an off-topic correction to your comment about blood transfusions and how they aren't scanned thoroughly for diseases. I work for an HIV/AIDS clinic and it is now rare to get HIV (not AIDS) from a blood transfusion. It happened a lot in the 80's and early 90's because there wasn't proper testing.

My son who up to 3 months ago was sharing needles (Herion Addiction) just had his 3 month blood work done for HIV and HEP. Thank God, all came back negative. However, his Hep B Surface Ab # was 1.79. He's 23 years old. I'm his father and I had the same test done and my number was <0.1 He's had no other risks since getting off of drugs in October. What's the difference in numbers tell me?
