Avatar n tn I have graves disease, but was in remission. Then I had cancer and chemotherapy. My TSH level is hyper again and my other tests normal. The doctors won't say if chemo can activate your graves disease. They do say that a physical or emotional change to my body can trigger it. My thoughts, Cancer and chemotherapy are big time physical and emotional changes.
Avatar f tn I've just been diagnosed with Graves' Disease. I have autoimmune thyroid disease that has changed from being primary Hashimoto's thyroiditis to Graves's Disease. I was diagnosed in 1997 with Fibromyalgia. I also have severe osteoarthritis, especially in both hands. What am I doing wrong? The doctor told me I'm a very strange case. What's that mean?
Avatar n tn However, there remains a chance of hypothyroidism and other complications, and not all Grave disease patients are suitable for this. Please discuss with your treating specialist. Take care!
897578 tn?1241721271 I have recently been diagnosed with both graves and hashimoto's disease and I am only 26 years old. My T3 and T4 's were in the 1000's and my TSH levels are <.006. The dr. gave me propranalol for the heart irregularities and the tremors I get and also prescribed me Methimazole. I told the dr. I didn't want to take the Methimazole because I am very sensitive to medications and I do not want to deal with the side effects such as a weakened immune system.
Avatar n tn There is a particularly strong connection between celiac disease and autoimmune thyroid disease (includes Hashimoto's thyroiditis and Graves' diseases). Hashimoto's thyroiditis is the most common cause of hypothyroidism in the western world.

Avatar f tn I have graves disease. i wonder what kind of bread can i eat and how much of it can i take? thanks!
Avatar m tn Graves Disease is an autoimmune disease where the Graves Disease antibodies attack the persons thyroid causing hyperthyroidism (levels of FT3, FT4 too high and TSH too low. Left untreated it can be very dangerous. Get your Sister to see an Endocrinologist but in the meantime whilst waiting for an appointment, get her to her local Doctor to start treatment of anti-thyroid medications.
Avatar n tn she said my tsh was 0.00 and that i should come straight in to see her the next am. thus began my graves disease journey. i had RAI in 2000 and slowly but surely with the beta blocker started to feel and think healthy again. did have some collateral damage, my stomach become very, very sensitive and i am now completely gluten intolerant....bummer.
Avatar f tn I've been reading on a thyroid group on Facebook that Graves' often goes along with gluten intolerance. I have a lot of digestive issues (not sure if I have Graves' but I am borderline hyperthyroid and have most symptoms) so I'm going to try going gluten-free for a couple weeks to see if I feel better.
558632 tn?1303471125 I have celiac and dairy intolerance, sjorgren's, and hasi/hypothyroid, and all sorts of allergies. My doctor tells me it is Autoimmune Syndrome [where one is an AI thyroid problem with at least 2 other AI diseases]. There is more than one type. Sounds like you have it too since you have so many autoimmune problems. Type in AS and see what you can find.
Avatar f tn 140) Basically, the Endocrinologist told me my results mean I have both Graves Disease and Hashimotos. She is sending me for a uptake/scan and ultrasound of my Thyroid in a month and then I follow up with her in a month and a half. In the meantime I am trying to research these autoimmune disorders and feel overwhelmed. I am confused that I have BOTH, and that I feel lethargic and am experiencing weight gain with a TSH level of 0.00.
Avatar f tn The lifestyle change has been dramatic for me. But, honestly, thyroid disease or not, gluten, soy, processed and fried foods, fake sugars, are not healthy choices for ANY person. My husband feels better when following my lifestyle. When he goes to work and grabs Subway or some fast food for lunch, he feels bloated and miserable. Many people without auto-immune diseases are making the switch for the better.
Avatar n tn I find that cortisol (a stress hormone) gets low over time when people have prolonged stressful problems. For example, chronic food allergies (like grain allergy) can stress the body and result in "beaten down" adrenals over time and give low cortisols. The thyroid antibody means that your immune system is attacking your thyoid.
4852898 tn?1360039862 I am euthyroid with graves disease and had my gallbladder removed one year ago. All blood tests Ive had are clear, CBC, thyroid, liver function, complement and inflammation markers etc. Coeliac panel too. My GP has had me on nexium for 3 weeks as I do get some gerd but it hasn't helped any. Im still fatigued and have some stomach aches and brain fog etc. Any suggestions as to what this could be or what tests could help?
Avatar f tn Anyway I have Severe Graves Thyroid Eye Disease Hyper ahd hypothyrpidism and lastly Thyrotoxic Myopathy. I have always been in relatively good health although I never ate or slept and was constantly on the go. As an Event manager I always had something to plan so I went at it 500000 miles an hour. Now though I am using a walking stick, my hair has fallen out, I have lost my face to TED and I feel faint lethargic and my legs buzz all night long.
Avatar m tn I am looking for anyone who can shed some light on sucess using Natural treatment options for Hyperthyroidism? My wife has been up and down with Graves for the past 13yrs and it is back with a vengance. The endo want to do Iodine to remove her thyroid but we are skeptical. Thoughts????
1841872 tn?1324666089 So in my case it was from low thyroid (from just T4 med), that caused digestive environment that catered to unwanted gut flora that also fed and go worse from gluten and suger and then led to the inability to digest certain things. So for me gluten caused some side effects but it was not the initial problem. I doubt so many anti gluten types look this far into their gluten sensitivity. Gut health is everything and its connected to the brain, cant forget that.
2102364 tn?1334181277 and this (from same source)....I really don't want this to be true: "Prognosis also depends on the duration and severity of the disease before treatment. Swedish research of 2005 reports a lower quality of life for 14 to 21 years after treatment of Graves' disease, with lower mood and lower vitality, regardless of the choice of treatment.
1428646 tn?1330978063 graves disease will attack and organ. the first time I had graves disease it was attacking my heart making my heart beat faster. I was on medication for about 2 years. then it went into remission now it is back. graves disease could attack any organ , graves disease is your immune system attacks your organs not virus or bacteria.
Avatar f tn I do. One term important with both autoimmune issues is defined as Hashitoxicosis Graves disease. Its a difficult treatment to work and alot depends in the individuals complex. Rarely will you ever see your numbers suppressed enough to say you no longer have the disease but the symptoms can be managed. It takes TLC for sure and a good doc relationship with you. also you may need to become a thyroid guru yourself and learn alot to overcome the symptoms of this dual-issue.
Avatar n tn I have graves' and TED. I had RAI over 2 years ago and my eyes have improved greatly, but still bulge a bit. Having your thyroid removed will help many symptoms, but does not fix the the auto immune problem. How are your levels now? Can you post latest labs? When I got very hypo due to under medication after treatment, my eyes also bulged more. When my levels are good, my eyes seem to improve.
Avatar f tn Celiac Disease, Thyroid Disease Often Found Together Celiac disease patients have a higher risk of autoimmune thyroid disease, including Graves disease and Hashimoto's disease. Avatar f tn I have done some research now and have come up with some good and bad foods with regards to Graves Disease. There are many conflicting views out there and as I am on a block and replace medication I go from Hyper to Hypo quite often so I will need a specialist diet drawn up for me. In the meantime I have ordered a weekly delivery of organic meats and veg and have drawn up some kind of plan below as to what I can and can't eat. Does anyone have any comments please???
455315 tn?1272107970 The researchers studied 172 patients with autoimmune thyroid disease, and two control groups, and found that the 3.4% of patients with autoimmune thyroiditis had celiac disease, and the prevalence was only 0.6% and 0.25% among the control groups. The study also found that undiagnosed celiac disease may actually be part of the process that triggers an underlying autoimmune disease.
Avatar f tn You need a second opinion. Based on what you describe, you have autoimmune thyroid disease with markers for Graves' (TSI) and the other common antibodies (TPO and Tg) that are usually associated with hashimoto's. Graves' and Hashi should be considered as entities on two ends of a spectrum, not two completely different diseases. This may cause fluctuating thyroid function to hypo and hyper and back but this is not common.
