Its important to remember that kidney stones are not uncommon and are easily treatable if followed up on. The other conditions are clinically rare.
Avatar f tn UTI can also be due to the polycystic kidney disease as well. Kidney stones and kidney failure are late-stage symptoms of the disease. I suggest you an immediate urologist’s evaluation. If the size of the stone is small, it’s usually treated with ESWL in which shock waves are given from outside and stone breaks into small pieces. On the other hand, if the stone is quite big, then the surgical removal of the stone is a better option. Also her renal functions need to be studied.
82861 tn?1333453911 They can become elevated if there is a urinary tract infection, a kidney infection or a prostate infection, or the elevations can be caused by damage to the kidney (either kidney disease or kidney failure). A urinalysis with a microalbuminuria test will determine if it is an infection or kidney failute. Lyme disease can commonly effect the kidneys also causing kidney failure. So if it has not been performed yet I would have your dog's urine tested and perform a lyme disease test.
Avatar n tn Thanks for your response. I have also been feeling achy in my kidneys. I've learned that PTU can also cause kidney stones. And since I am already predisposed to ks, that's probably why. On starting my own thread....not a bad idea. Take care all.
Avatar n tn I have hypothyroidism and undifferentiated connective tissue disease. According to my rheumy it is more than likely Lupus and possibly fibromyalgia, as well. I have yet to get an offical diagnosis.
Avatar f tn We did many tests and the findings were elevated urea and creatinine, elevated calcium and kidney and bladder stones. The vets disagree on her condition, one thinks that the seizures are caused by the kidneys and the other that the kidneys and the seizures are not related. So far she has not started antiepileptic medication. We changed her food to Hill's k/d and her blood tests are much improved. The stones also seem to reduce. However, the seizures insist and I am very worried.

Avatar m tn kidney stones can be very recurring and can start very young, although ive never heard of someone getting them in their early teens.. usually early 20s, but that doesnt mean it doesnt happen earlier. it sounds like you will have to sit in some pain until you get insurance again. you can try to seek out clinics, but theyre not very good at helping. get your insurance back and go to a dr, because if you have them so often, you might have something else going on.
Avatar f tn I have about reached the end of that proverbial rope looking for a doctor with special interest in and experience in treating patients with Graves Disease. I was diagnosed a few years ago and have been going downhill since. Have just "fired" my endocrinologist--for a multliple of reasons. Would appreciate any info on finding an endocrinologist in the upstate NY (Utica, Syracuse, Cooperstown) area...
Avatar f tn I wonder if anybody else has experienced diarrhea with kidney stones? I have had upwards of 40 kidney stones in the past four years but somehow still have no answers as to why my body is producing these or how to relieve them. And i never fail to turn up new symptoms or troubles. I have been having dark urine and a lot of kidney pain lately and I'm sure I have another stone working its way out of my kidney...
Avatar n tn I am not well-versed in thymus disorders w/ exception that sometimes the thymus is enlarged/persists in autoimmune disease such as Graves and MG. I don't know of an association between prior thymectomy and FM/CFS - would pursue the usual work-up perhaps with a university based rheumatologist w/ an interest in FM/CFS and certainly would test thyroid function.
Avatar f tn m not a physician though and only know about kidney stones since I have suffered with them for well over 30 years and well over 30 plus stones. I hope you get the answers you are seeking and I would suggest asking a physician who would know for sure.
Avatar f tn Medullary sponge kidney (MSK) is a birth defect of the tubules inside the kidneys and may cause hematuria, kidney stones, and urinary tract infections. A referral to a kidney doctor or nephrologist may help. Treatment for MSK involves managing UTIs, removing kidney stones, and preventing recurrent infections and stones. Take care and do keep us posted.
Avatar f tn I have MSK I was diagnosed about 6 years ago and only after 5-6surgeries and move then 100 kidney stones. I feel for anybody who has this as there are time I honestly consider suicide over the pain and being tired of passin stones and being told that there is not much they can do avoid calcium and protein.. good luck with that one. Since almost everything has both in it. Again my heart goes out to all you guys suffering from this.
Avatar f tn Ive had kidney stones for years due to my crohns disease and the best advice i can tell u is to avoid caffeine and sugary drinks all together. Drink water with lemon and cranberry all natural no cocktail. To help eliminate pain, hydrate urself very well it will open up ur ureter easing the passing of the stone making it less painful. If u havent already passed it, chug lots of cranberry natural. Hope things go well for you.
Avatar f tn I am 39, have Primary Immune Disease, dont make igg, and have had kidney stones 2 times a year since 2001. At moment i have a stone stuck in right ureter and awful right kidney pain. Drs cant figure out why i am getting the stones. I am on potassium citrate 3xd and it does not help. went to ER last nite and they wouldnt do a CT scan because i have had too many over my lifetime(radiation). urine showed high concentration of calcium oxalate so stone is verified.
Avatar n tn Sometimes, the underlying cause is an inherited metabolic disorder or kidney disease. Gout, inflammatory bowel disease and some medications promote specific types of kidney stones. It's common, however, for kidney stones to have no definite, single cause. The following can increase your risk of developing kidney stones: family history, lack of fluids, age and sex, diet, limited activity, obesity, high blood pressure, and changes in the digestive process.
Avatar n tn But the thing thats holding me back is that i have kidney stones and ill have them for the rest of my life. would it be a bad idea to get pregnant?
Avatar n tn I am 31 year old female and diagnosed with Hypothyroid when i was 20 and Hashimotos about 5 years ago. This past April I began to suffer from kidney stones and had surgery for removal. Just six months later I am experiencing some pain in my kidneys again. I have been doing reserach on the Parathyroid and have read that there may be a correlation with kindey stones and thyroid issues. Any feedback or websites would be very helpful!
Avatar f tn the doctor told me that it was becouse of low magneseum levels but a friend doctor seems to think he may be going down the wrong root, and may be a diffrent matter. i have been treated for graves disease and have taken the radiocative iodine could this have anything to do with it? would be great if anyone could help thanks This discussion is related to high calcium causing all this???.
231903 tn?1281482584 The pain that you describe in the flank region that also appears in the back and in the front can be due to kidney stones. You also have a past history of these. Hence there is a high chance of these. There could be an accompanying UTI. A kidney abscess too will cause similar symptoms but will present with a higher fever. The other possibility is that the ovarian cyst has got twisted. The third possibility of endometriosis can be considered if you have pain only around your periods.
4159057 tn?1350422784 It is a disease involving the defective transepithelial transport of cystine and dibasic amino acids in the kidney and intestine, and is one of many causes of kidney stones. If not treated properly, the disease could cause serious damage to the kidneys and surrounding organs, and in some rare cases death. The stones may be identified by a positive nitroprusside cyanide test. The crystals are usually hexagonal, translucent, white.
