Avatar f tn I've just been diagnosed with Graves' Disease. I have autoimmune thyroid disease that has changed from being primary Hashimoto's thyroiditis to Graves's Disease. I was diagnosed in 1997 with Fibromyalgia. I also have severe osteoarthritis, especially in both hands. What am I doing wrong? The doctor told me I'm a very strange case. What's that mean?
Avatar m tn Graves Disease is an autoimmune disease where the Graves Disease antibodies attack the persons thyroid causing hyperthyroidism (levels of FT3, FT4 too high and TSH too low. Left untreated it can be very dangerous. Get your Sister to see an Endocrinologist but in the meantime whilst waiting for an appointment, get her to her local Doctor to start treatment of anti-thyroid medications.
Avatar f tn I have graves disease. i wonder what kind of bread can i eat and how much of it can i take? thanks!
4852898 tn?1360039862 I am euthyroid with graves disease and had my gallbladder removed one year ago. All blood tests Ive had are clear, CBC, thyroid, liver function, complement and inflammation markers etc. Coeliac panel too. My GP has had me on nexium for 3 weeks as I do get some gerd but it hasn't helped any. Im still fatigued and have some stomach aches and brain fog etc. Any suggestions as to what this could be or what tests could help?
897578 tn?1241721271 I have also been diagnosed with both Hasimotto and Graves Disease. I feel discouraged at times, but I can't let it get me down. My doctor at the CCF has me on synthroid at this time. He will continue to watch my levels, which also show a very low TSH. My TPO and TRab are both elevated. Have you visited an eye doctor that specializes in Graves Disease? I am showing the beginning signs of Graves in my eyes. I also have Sjogren's Disease, which is an autoimmune disease.
1809109 tn?1331803777 A 2007 Dutch study, published in the World Journal of Gastroenterology, confirmed a connection between Hashimotos Thyroiditis and celiac disease. "World J Gastroenterol. 2007 Mar 21;13(11):1715-22. Coeliac disease in Dutch patients with Hashimoto's thyroiditis and vice versa. Avatar n tn There is a particularly strong connection between celiac disease and autoimmune thyroid disease (includes Hashimoto's thyroiditis and Graves' diseases). Hashimoto's thyroiditis is the most common cause of hypothyroidism in the western world.
646782 tn?1224281384 there is a lot of stuff going on in that post but i will say that thyroid can be autoimmune and so can celiac and both are quite common together and believe me both will affect the heart rate in the long run .graves disease is harder to control that hashimotos and it will make the hr higher if not under control.if the thyroid is autoimmune it can reverse back to normal and go up again.
Avatar m tn MacMillan has Plummers Disease which is a completely different 'ball game'. I wouldnt reccommend anyhting for Graves and Hyperthyroidism other than anti-thyroid meds and/or permanant treatment. Graves antibodies are with you for life...and regardless of what some think..you dont mess around with Hyperthyroidism. It would have to be more dangerous than Hashimotos. You only have one Heart and you only have one Liver....look after both and dont risk taking chances.

Avatar f tn I've been reading on a thyroid group on Facebook that Graves' often goes along with gluten intolerance. I have a lot of digestive issues (not sure if I have Graves' but I am borderline hyperthyroid and have most symptoms) so I'm going to try going gluten-free for a couple weeks to see if I feel better.
Avatar n tn she said my tsh was 0.00 and that i should come straight in to see her the next am. thus began my graves disease journey. i had RAI in 2000 and slowly but surely with the beta blocker started to feel and think healthy again. did have some collateral damage, my stomach become very, very sensitive and i am now completely gluten intolerant....bummer.
455315 tn?1272107970 What are your opinions on the possible connection stated in this particular article? I am very interested in other thoughts as I would like to try to treat my autoimmune thyroid disease (waiting for further test results to find out what specifically I am diagnosed with) as naturally as I possibly can. This is why I need and appreciate this expert forum.
Avatar f tn 140) Basically, the Endocrinologist told me my results mean I have both Graves Disease and Hashimotos. She is sending me for a uptake/scan and ultrasound of my Thyroid in a month and then I follow up with her in a month and a half. In the meantime I am trying to research these autoimmune disorders and feel overwhelmed. I am confused that I have BOTH, and that I feel lethargic and am experiencing weight gain with a TSH level of 0.00.
Avatar f tn I have Toxic Multinodular Goiter (Plummer’s Disease) but when I first joined the forum my lab work from my family doctor showed that TgAb tested above normal for me, indicating possible Graves Disease. When I was tested again by my endo 3 months later, that test indicated that my TgAb was in the normal range. I do not know how that is possible but I am sure you are remembering those conversations when I was new here.
558632 tn?1303471125 I am going to be tested for Celiac at end of April, just wondering if there are others with same thing and i can ask questions if needed? I have graves, pernecious anemia, vita D. deficiency, and meniere's all autoimmune, other conditions as well, but i believe those are all associated with celiac right? If i do have it, i am thinking it could of been the culprit all along and caused these others?
Avatar n tn I have been diagnosed with Graves diseases and take the appropriate medication. My question is I would like my doctor to run a whole series of test in regard to my endocrine system but not sure where to tell him to start. Can you point me in the right direction? Thank you.
Avatar m tn Your latest thyroid levels don't indicate that you are hyper and some symptoms can "cross over" between hyper and hypo. I looked up Bystolic because I'm not familiar with it. I didn't see anything that said it was contraindicated in patients with hyperthyroidism, although you could be sensitive to its ingredients. You should talk to your doctor or pharmacist about that.
Avatar n tn Graves is an autoimmune disease and unfortunately for life. Controlling whether they raise or suppress is key to beating the symptoms of the disease. If you are on Levo now - your labs must be abnormal and now lean towards hypoT levels. You would feel like cr@p right now with the swinging patterns you have been on. "Once Graves.... always Graves" is the saying here. But I am positive your endo or ???
Avatar n tn I find that cortisol (a stress hormone) gets low over time when people have prolonged stressful problems. For example, chronic food allergies (like grain allergy) can stress the body and result in "beaten down" adrenals over time and give low cortisols. The thyroid antibody means that your immune system is attacking your thyoid.
Avatar n tn There are many of us with autoimmune disease that are not gluten intolerant. I, personally, have 2 autoimmunes and do not have gluten intolerance. It's true that for some reason, some labs are changing reference ranges; we haven't exactly figured out why yet. tgirlnc - have you had an FT3 test done? If so, what are your levels? FT3 is the most important of the thyroid hormones, because that's the one the cells actually utilize and it correlates best with symptoms.
1202943 tn?1347840652 I never thought about going gluten free until my brother called earlier this year to say he had stopped eating it and felt much better. In his research he saw so much info on the thyroid/gluten connection that he thought I should try it. I had RAI for Graves' in Feb 2010 and was still trying to feel well. I couldn't imagine cutting out gluten! I love cereal, bread, crackers, baked goods. I thought...no way...not interested!
Avatar n tn I have been going to an Endocrinologist for almost 1 year. He has done several ultrasounds showing that I have 5 tumors on my thyroid. I have a biopsy which showed they were benign. I recently had another ultrasound which showed one of the tumors had shrunk but another one appeared.
