Common Questions and Answers about Glucosamine vs glutamine

glucosamine

Avatar m tn I am active (exercise almost daily), eat very healthy (fruits, veggies, no processed foods, no sugar, low salt), and take supplements (multivitamin w/no iron, glucosamine, quercetin, ginkgo, l-glutamine, omega-3 fish oil). I also have protein shakes made from whey or casein when I work out.
Avatar f tn If you can get supplements in powder form (vs. pill form) --- I say do it. I think it would absorb easier and especially considering that CFS and people with autoimmune conditions have gut problems.
Avatar f tn somewhere i read about glutamine helping with detox or helping you feel better after detox. i am coming off tramadol. anyone know anything?
Avatar m tn Before I start consuming the glutamine I use to loss 5 pounds every 2 weeks. Is the glutamine making a weight loss restriction for me?
Avatar f tn Firstly you could start him on Glucosamine and Chondroitin supplement. It really does help. You hear that the dog has to have taken it for a few weeks for there to be any noticeable change, but I have found it can take effect quicker than that. To give you an idea of dosage, my dog weighs 28lbs and I give her 500mg Glucosamine, and 200mg Chondroitin daily. If his weight is twice hers, or approximately, you can give double that dose.
Avatar n tn I have been taking L-Glutamine for GERD, slow gastric emptying and it has certainly improved my condition to the point where I can eat and digest nearly as normally as when I was an adolescent and could eat and usually did eat practically everything. Although now I am much more careful as to what I eat, how and when. I lift weights quite regularly and could see some interesting positive effects of glutamine supplementation on my recovery and sustained muscle belly volume also.
Avatar m tn 5 pound schnauzer and has been limping a bit after exercise. I have started giving her 500 mg of glucosamine a day and wanted to know if this is the right dosage?
161647 tn?1280608163 The only thing I can think of was that my mom started taking Glucosamine last year. Can the Glucosamine affect eye vision. Or does anyone have any suggestions. My mom is worried that there is something seriously wrong because the doctor said the next step is too see a retina specialist. Thanks for any advise.
Avatar m tn They were also able to show some interesting metabolites differences between us (PATM, TMAU etc.) vs control group. Metabolites were Taurine, Amino adipic acid. Amino acids: Histidine, Glutamine, Serine, Alanine, Glycine. Urine test showed that we have less of these amino acids than control subjects. I assume it’s the same relationship with Taurine and Amino adipic acid but not sure as it could be the other way round.
Avatar m tn >> In my case glutamine and collagen make my reactions worse. That's interesting, I've never heard of that. I know other PATMERs who benefit from it too so I'm surprise it doesn't work for you. There's another thing you have to take in mind. A proper died is compulsory. If you eat KFC, MacDonald, bread, butter etc. it almost makes no different. >> What brand glutamine you take ?! I took "L-Glutamine" from Jarrow Formulas. I always take it with Collagen.
1093971 tn?1257833640 Not all glucosamine products are created equal. In order to best evaluate a product, you need to consider several things. When your healthcare and joint discomfort is at stake, take a moment and consider these criteria: What form is the glucosamine in? What is the total daily dose? Are there any other ingredients? What type is the glucosamine? How pure are the ingredients? If you’re considering taking glucosamine with chondroitin you have another ballgame.
Avatar f tn I just recently started taking glucosamine and Chondroitin to help my knee recover from a dislocated patella. but for some reason my contact lenses have become very dry is that a side effect of the glucosamine??. I have used this type of soft contacts for a long time but never experienced this problem. Thanks.
1200450 tn?1317496867 The 'tiredness" feeling could be caused by low glutamine intake/levels. Most regular, normal, non-pill taking people (that's you now!) have low glutamine levels. This could be making you feel tired. This stuff is just as important as glucose levels. In a healthy person, the concentration of Glutamine in the blood is 3-4 times greater than all other amino acids, and is a major r energy source for the entire body.
Avatar m tn My dog weighed 28-30lbs and the correct dose for her was 500mg Glucosamine per day. The vet said the 'human' Glucosamine was fine to use, so long as the dosage was correct for the dog's weight. So it depends what your dog's weight is, how much you can increase the dose. As far as I can make out, dogs (and humans too) respond differently to Glucosamine. With some there are great results, and with some, not much improvement. You could mention this to your vet perhaps.
Avatar f tn My dog is 12 year old and has arthrits and the vet told me to use glucosamine. In the summer time he does not need it. Now my dog is whimpering and shakeing, when I pet him he stops. This started a couple of days ago. The weather got really cold fast and I just started him back on glucosamine. Does this sound like the arthrits acting up or do I need to worry? How much glucosamine can I give him? I hate when my dog is in pain, I have had him since I was in kindergarden.
Avatar n tn I have always fed them a really good food with the added glucosamine. I just recently changed foods to one without glucosamine. My lab started limping really bad. I went to human vitamin store and got her some glucosamine supplements. I got the liquid flavored glucosamine and the glucosamine soft flavored chew. I know some cannot swallow pills. My dog eats the chews if I slightly warm them. She will not touch the liquid. I would rather put a pill in some meat or something.
Avatar n tn ive been giving my dog which is 17kg 1000mg of glucosamine every day for a week which i will now reduce to 500mg a day is there any thing else i should give him with this or is glucosamine alone ok my dog has early signs of arthritis in his back legs its a bit of an effort for him to get up now he is 10 yrs 3mths old and had cruciate ligament surgery back in may last yr and in the other leg about 5 to 6 yrs ago
675347 tn?1365460645 Please does anyone know the dosage of Glucosamine Sulphate for dogs? How many milligrams per pound body weight? Also, is it ok to give my dog the regular Glucosamine (which people take) as it is so much cheaper to buy that at the supermarket, than to get it from the vet, or to buy dog treats which contain it! Thanks for any help or suggestions, anyone. Ginger.
Avatar m tn Recently, my gastro doctor had me try L-Glutamine. First, I started the dose at 500mg 3 times a day on an empty stomach. I’ve increased the dose up to 3grams a day, dosing 1000mg 3 times a day on an empty stomach. The goal that my Dr and I set was to reach 12grams a day. At the 3 gram dose, I’ve had some considerable improvement in symptoms with bloating and acid reflux, but I noticed I getting some serious joint pain in my hands, feet and knees.
451053 tn?1237577749 I too had mouth sores...I used L-Glutamine to relieve them. It worked immediately. Glutamine is an amino acid which is produced by the body in the digestive track. Chemo kills it. Glutamine is a supplement sold at GNC stores and health food places. It's a powder that you can mix with pudding, lemonade, etc. I used one tablespoon of it, mixed with an 8-ounce glass of water, as a mouthwash. Incredible stuff.
Avatar f tn If it is from chemo you had in the past, take 2 rounded tsp of L-glutamine in water daily. If you see improvement by the end of your "bucket" of glutamine, it works for you. If it doesn't, it never will. You can find glutamine in any stores that has prducts for body builders. hope this helps. it is from feedback of many patients...
Avatar n tn I've had severe constipation for two weeks now. I have severe abdominal bloating/distention, rapid weight gain (put 25 pounds on in less than 2 weeks), stingy sensation up and down my lower legs (front) almost burning and my fingers tingle/feel swollen, fatigue (wake up tired, tired after eating, and sleep whenever not at work), waking up tired, muscle soreness, joint pain, nausea, and my stomach is warm to the touch and hurts.
Avatar m tn I take a throid pill every morning. Would glucosamine Chondrotin interfer with it?
Avatar n tn Hello. I have been underweight for a long time. I suspect I have a leaky gut. I just learnt about Glutamine supplements. I want to find out if it's fine to take Glutamine supplements.
Avatar f tn Hi,does anyone know what dose of glucosamine & chondroitin i should give my 7yr old border collie,he is getting very stiff in his hind leg when getting up(old injury when he was 1yr old) but once he gets going he is still as fit & active as ever.
