I just recently started taking glucosamine and Chondroitin to help my knee recover from a dislocated patella. but for some reason my contact lenses have become very dry is that a side effect of the glucosamine??. I have used this type of soft contacts for a long time but never experienced this problem. Thanks.
My own dog took this after a broken leg and it did her so much good. In damp weather she had started to favour that leg a little sometimes. As soon as she took the Glucosamine/Chondroitin supplement, it took about one week to see a great improvement. After that, she had no more trouble with that leg.
She weighed 30lbs, and the correct maximum dosage for her was 500mg Glucosamine and 200mg Chondroitin once daily.
It's OK to give "human" grade Glucosamine and Chondroitin to dogs. But you seriously need to watch out for any additives in the capsules or tablets. Artificial sweeteners, Xylitol, sugars, or any other additives, and I would say no -don't give them that stuff. Toxic for them.
However, the basic Glucosamine/Chondroitin is EXACTLY the same substance whether for humans or dogs. The difference is -the price. My vet told me that.

I am looking to treat trauma of the brachial tendon to treat pain during bicep workouts by using a glucosamine cream. I have heard anecdotally that the cream format increases bio-availability by a staggering amount and that the oral supplement is essentially a snake oil product.
I take Ipriflavone to build my bones as well as Calcium and D3. The Glucosamine/Chondroitin/MSM does nothing for me. But everybody and every body is different. After experimenting, I found Essiac works for me. - So, Gram551, you might find something else that works better for your body. Also, I forgot to mention that "we" need to avoid potatoes, tomatoes, mushrooms, and eggplant and any other nightshade vegetable/fruits. These cause inflammation and pain.
Seven years old doesn't sound all that old, but since not all breeds have the same life expectancy it depends on the breed whether or not the dog is actually a senior dog at this point. Senior dogs are prone to all sorts of ailments, just like senior people.
t do any harm is to start her on Glucosamine and Chondroitin supplements. This really works, and is completely natural. (if the arthritis is not TOO bad, the Glucosamine/Chondroitin can work wonders)
You could ask your vet's advice about this, and about the correct dosage (I would give her the maximum for her weight.) But ask advice first.
Adequan is given only once weekly for a month to six weeks, than at lesser intervals, so it is much easier than having to give insulin. Adequan is more expensive than oral glucosamine and chondroitin supplements, however. To save some expense you could try giving your dog an oral version and if digestive issues result switch to Adequan. Your dog's dose would be 750mg of glucosamine twice daily.
Si Miao San would also be a good addition.
To give you an idea of dosage, my dog weighs 28lbs and I give her 500mg Glucosamine, and 200mg Chondroitin daily. If his weight is twice hers, or approximately, you can give double that dose.
I'd be wary of giving your dog aspirin, and certainly NEVER Ibuprofen (Advil, or anything like that) If he needs a painkiller, get one prescribed. Later you may be able to get this same drug online at a cheaper price.
I do know the Glucosamine/Chondroitin Tablets Double Strength 3 a day have helped my knee arthritis a little bit. I do see a difference if I stop taking it. I have not had any back pain, but I am having pain down the front of my leg and cannot lift it or the pain goes into my groin. Everyone is telling me that its from my back being unaligned, even if it does not hurt.
It is expensive, and its up to you if you want to try it.
I have a pain in knees I am taking natural made triple flex glucosamine 1500 mg chondroitin 800mg and msn 750 mg. no other problem I go for check up regularly no any other problem every thing is good only pain in Knees also MRI done no problem found pain in knees and muscle pain in legs it's really hard to bend over.
