I have heard many different things about glucosamine for dogs . That is is okay for your dogs, and also that it isn't. There can be many benefits to providing supplements for your dog. It can help them remain healthy and with that even happier. No one likes to deal with a grumpy dog. Can you tell me where I could find more information about glucosamine for dogs though?

I read somewhere that blackstrap molasses works wonders for arthritis pain in dogs. I also heard of extra virgin coconut oil and apple cider vinegar. I am really tempted to mix all these and give it a try. Has anyone tried these? or are there any other natural remedies? My dog has been on metacam but it doesn't work very well, I can tell she is still in pain. My dad keeps telling us to just put her to sleep so she can rest and not be in pain anymore.
Sorry to be so abrupt but ibuprofen, the active ingredient in motrin, is EXTREMELY toxic to dogs! Even a small dose can lead to events that will kill him.
It's best to check with your vet first on dosing, but he CAN have human aspirin as long as it's either buffered or enteric coated, like Ascriptin. But don't give him any other type of human OTC pain reliever because they are just not formulated for dogs.
If you haven't done so by now, hope you have called your Vet, ER clinic or Poison Control.
I also buy the Pedigree dog food which has one where it has glucosamine in it for healthy joints. Ofcourse ask your vet if Glucosamine would be ok for your dog to take because I don't know if hip arthritis and hip dysplasia is the same thing. I hope and pray your baby gets better.
hi have a 14 yr patterdale/lakeland her joints are stiff and shaky i have been giving her adult glucosamine sulphate for a few months now but doesnt seem to be getting any better or worse should i increase the dose
Another night went by and this morning I, myelf, took the dogs for a walk and again, he was doing fine for a bit but moving slowly. AGAIN, he curled into a ball on the grass and as I started to pick him up he let out yelps and cries. I'm wanting to know if this could possibly be an injury from the other dogs being too playful, or perhaps arthritis?
NSAIDS (Rimadyl, Metacam, Previcox, and others), plus Tramadol, and Amantadine, and Chondroprotective agents (Glucosamine and Chondroitin combinations).
Acupuncture is also very effective, as is Stem Cell therapy. She should also be checked for Lyme disease and other tick borne disease that affect joints.
All her painful joints should be X-Rayed because some joints may require surgical correction or stabilization.

Ibuprofen is TOXIC to dogs....It sounds as if she is still in good shape, but needs a prescription for pain meds. from your Vet.....Your Vet will have a selection of meds to treat your girl's, what I beleive to be, Arthrititis....They work wonders....
The yellow bile is stomach acid and the Ibuprofen could possibly be damaging her stomach lining.....Usually, dogs vomit bile when they've gone too long without food.....She needs to be fed 2 meals a day and a snack before bedtime.....
It's probably just age creeping up on him. What type of glucosamine product are you using on him? How long has he been on it? Those products don't work right away. Oftentimes you don't see any results at all for at least 30 days, and you don't get to peak performance until the pet has been taking it for six months or more. So unless he has been on the glucosamine for half a year or more, I wouldn't give up yet and say that it hasn't done much.
She weighs 28lbs, and her dosage is 1 capsule per day (which is 500mg Glucosamine, and 200mg Chondroitin. So you could work out the dose for your dog's weight...for instance if he weighs twice that, give him 2 capsules, that would be 1000mg Glucosamine and 400mg Chondroitin) It has worked wonders for her, as she was starting to develop arthritis in a leg which was once broken, when she was 4 years old.
If Daquin is the same as Seraquin (which I think it is), then it contains Glucosamine, which is probably adversely affecting the kidneys. Most dogs can take Glucosamine without problems, but CKD dogs may have a problem with it. On the other hand, if it is helping with the joint problems, then it's a Catch-22 scenario - you might protect the kidneys more by not giving it, but then your dog may suffer more from the joint pain.
Glucosamine is fine for dogs. There are many formulas made specifically for dogs but its often cheaper to buy the human ones. MSM is a natural anti-inflammatory that is safe and may help too. Some of the dog powders/treats etc include MSM w/the glucosamine & chondroitin or you can get it separately.
