Common Questions and Answers about Glucosamine and effects

glucosamine

1093971 tn?1257833640 What form is the glucosamine in? What is the total daily dose? Are there any other ingredients? What type is the glucosamine? How pure are the ingredients? If you’re considering taking glucosamine with chondroitin you have another ballgame. Since you didn’t ask about the latter I’ll stick to glucosamine by itself. If you search the Internet you’ll see inconclusive evidence of glucosamine having negative effects on blood sugar.
Avatar m tn s fish oil with enhanced DHA and EPA (15 grams daily), megadose vitamin E, and megadose glucosamine+chondroitin+MSM daily for anti inflammatory effects for my joint and tendon problems. I am looking to treat trauma of the brachial tendon to treat pain during bicep workouts by using a glucosamine cream. I have heard anecdotally that the cream format increases bio-availability by a staggering amount and that the oral supplement is essentially a snake oil product.
Avatar m tn Hello Flowr, I understand your hesitancy to take Meloxicam. Meloxicam is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) with analgesic and fever reducer effects. It's often used in Arthritic and inflammatory conditions. However any NSAID comes with concerns - including OTC NSAIDs such as Ibuprofen. Several years ago Glucosamine & Chondroitin was popular with medical providers. It was hailed as the new and one of the best "treatments" for restoring cartilage and reducing pain.
2025701 tn?1328919633 Many of these can have side effects and interact with each other, and with many medicines. This could end up hurting your liver. Avoid high doses of vitamins A, D, E and K. As well, taking iron supplements may be hard on your liver. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Cheers!
Avatar f tn I just recently started taking glucosamine and Chondroitin to help my knee recover from a dislocated patella. but for some reason my contact lenses have become very dry is that a side effect of the glucosamine??. I have used this type of soft contacts for a long time but never experienced this problem. Thanks.
Avatar n tn Margaret - You probably should not be feeding those to your dogs because they are not made for dogs. Admittedly, I tried that avenue once because it was cheaper than the "made for dogs" chondroiten and glucosamine that's recommended for larger dogs. It didn't produce any positive effects after one entire bottle so then, we tried arthritus meds. My american bull was experiencing a slight limp. The meds didn't do anything! Finally, I tried Phycox chews.
Avatar f tn ve had multiple knee surgeries and my Ortho surgeon suggested that I try Osteo BiFlex (glucosamine and chondrointin) which seems to have helped immensely with arthritis pain (yes, I'm only 34 but have had problems with my knee since I was 21 due to a bad surgery the 1st time around)....You can get that at Walmart.....it takes a week or so to start noticing a difference though...Good luck.
689367 tn?1227469139 I have also been told that glucosamine (Joint supplements) is not good for your eyes and could elevate pressure. How true is that?
Avatar n tn ginger and glucosamine sulfate will affect coumadin (warfarin) I'm on warfarin and can't take ginger or glucosamine and a host of other supplements.
441382 tn?1452810569 I had the same question a while back, in the Spring. Misty had been showing a bit of possible arthritis in her right hind leg which was broken once. I asked the vet about this because I didn't want to pay premium prices for a "pet brand" Glucosamine, and he said Glucosamine is exactly the same substance, whether it's formulated in a preparation for dogs, or people. And Chondroitin is the same. I believe they are both natural substances obtained from shellfish.
Avatar n tn Adequan is given only once weekly for a month to six weeks, than at lesser intervals, so it is much easier than having to give insulin. Adequan is more expensive than oral glucosamine and chondroitin supplements, however. To save some expense you could try giving your dog an oral version and if digestive issues result switch to Adequan. Your dog's dose would be 750mg of glucosamine twice daily. Si Miao San would also be a good addition.
Avatar f tn hi buddy, there are still other anti-inflammitories worth trying like naprosyn and indocid. there is a topical cream called 'arthro aid direct' that is extremely good, i've used it for many years. it sinks in really deeply and is way better than all the others i've tried. it has glucosamine in it too but also other stuff, it's worth trying if you can get it over there. also you could try something like 'somac' for the NSAID tummy problems. it may help.
Avatar f tn If you wish to try it make sure you are not allergic to shell fish (glucosamine) or MSM (from pine tree bark) or Arnica ( arnica montana flower). You can buy MSM and arnica lotions separately and there is a glucosamine product that is made from corn but it is expensive. I am also taking vitamins which seems to be helping too.
Avatar f tn t think the ones without aspirin will harm you but remember the Caspian creme can burn and case tenderness. The glucosamine is fine too some take it in tablet form. TMA ill help you a lot more than I can with these things. Have you tried the lidoderm patches they work for me.
Avatar m tn t use it, but my wife does. She is not HepC positive, it helps her with the arthritis she has in her knees and she doesn't get any side effects. Is it effective? Yes, without a doubt, in her case anyways. I don't see why it would be any different for a HepC person but read about it and make sure it's liver friendly.
Avatar n tn m taking Ameriden Olive Leaf Extract - 6 caps a day, I was instructed to take only this brand. Plus Glucosamine 1500mg 3 X a day and hyaluronic acid (cushions joint) 100mg 3X a day. It'a lot of pills but would rather do that than take drugs with bad side-effects (had really bad reaction to Celebrex). You can go to the website Arthritis Help For Me ******* for more info. I am trying to follow an alkaline pH diet as much as poss - but it's not easy, do drink alkaline water tho'.
Avatar m tn 5 pound schnauzer and has been limping a bit after exercise. I have started giving her 500 mg of glucosamine a day and wanted to know if this is the right dosage?
Avatar f tn I have had Psoriatic Arthritis and Osteo for @ 15 years, and have been through "the gamut" of doctors, and different meds. As a result, I am strongly leaning in the direction of "Alternative" methods for pain relief. Lately, I have been in much more pain, as well as being quite dizzy. I have had labs run, which all point to being normal. My blood pressure is fine. Is it possible to be in such pain that it would cause dizziness?
Avatar m tn Glucosamine is sometimes very effective for arthritis, especially in older dogs or after injury etc. But at 5 years old, and especially as no arthritis was found, it may not be that Glucosamine will help. I don't know. Has he been checked for Cruciate ligament tear? If this IS cruciate ligament, surgery -as far as I know- is the best option. Muscle atrophy is often caused by inability to use the leg properly often because of injury or pain etc.
18070169 tn?1463175914 I have the beginnings of arthritis, but have been on glucosamine and that has alleviated a lot of pain, but since being on Zoloft, the pain has increased and I have had back pain. Just trying to see if others have had that being on Zoloft, or is it from my partial hysterectomy?
Avatar f tn s when he started taking the glucosamine and a week after the tube was sucked in completely , and vomiting started then doctors blamed it to glucosamine.
Avatar f tn My dog is 12 year old and has arthrits and the vet told me to use glucosamine. In the summer time he does not need it. Now my dog is whimpering and shakeing, when I pet him he stops. This started a couple of days ago. The weather got really cold fast and I just started him back on glucosamine. Does this sound like the arthrits acting up or do I need to worry? How much glucosamine can I give him? I hate when my dog is in pain, I have had him since I was in kindergarden.
Avatar n tn I went to human vitamin store and got her some glucosamine supplements. I got the liquid flavored glucosamine and the glucosamine soft flavored chew. I know some cannot swallow pills. My dog eats the chews if I slightly warm them. She will not touch the liquid. I would rather put a pill in some meat or something. It is much easier for her to take. I put her back on a food with glucosamine and she isnt having any problems. I learned my lesson about changing foods.
Avatar f tn Research says, it appears that glucosamine and chondroitin, alone or together, are safe and have few side effects. But they cost money and will not help you more than a placebo. FDA does not regulate supplements. Some are even questionable. I'm all for healthy choices - but be cautious. Never take a supplement without consulting your medical provider. I learned the hard way.
