Avatar f tn I had a contrast IV for a Chest CT. It infiltrated, causing pain and swelling. I need a follow-up scan (a 6-month check). What are the chances this will happen again. I have tiny veins and am nervous.
Avatar n tn is glipizide 10mg the same as glyburide 5mg / because my husband was drinking the gyburide and when we went for the new prescription it had changed to glipizide and he hasn't felt good since the change do i call his doctor
Avatar n tn I had an IV inserted for contrast dye for an MRI. Now the area is a lump, swollen, red , and itchy. Any ideas what to do?
Avatar f tn Hi, I recently went on glipizide after a very bad reaction to victoza. I was losing weight, but now the glipizide is keeping me at the same weight. Has anyone had the experience that is the same? and is there a lower does that anyone has still been able to lose weight with? and yes I'm on a low carb diet and excercise plan. I'm doing better with this than I did before and I lost 33 pounds. It's the glipizide.
647391 tn?1275016633 "Do you take Glipizide once a day? " Yes, usually around 5-6am. I eat breakfast 30-45 minutes later. "If so, what is your blood sugars at the end of day." <120 mg/dl "I think the glipizide helps, but doesn't last the day." Don't rely on medications to do all the work for you. There there to 'help' you. Do you exercise and break sweat for 60 minutes daily? Are you at normal body weight? Are you eating a proper diabetic diet?
Avatar n tn I also take 500mg metformin after a meal(breakfast and dinner) and was advised to take 5mg glipizide before meals (breakfast and lunch) but sometimes I measure my bs before and notice it's sometimes 70-90 . A little about me: I don't eat at regular intervals, I don't snack , I have 3 meals a day . Wake up at 530 go to work, eat breakfast at 9 and then my lunch around 12 , dinner between 5-630. No snacks. Thank you for taking the time to read this.
772785 tn?1237737313 For me this is not even a question. Here's something that made me laugh. My doctor ordered an MRI of my brain to see if I had MS. When she gave me the order I asked if they would use contrast and she said no..... that being said here's what happened. So I get to the MRI place at the hospital and they take me back and start an IV. This gets my attention.... I asked why and she said "for your contrast material of course!".
Avatar m tn Sounds like the nurse or tech hit a valve in the vein and/or the IV contrast irritated the vein. Since you have had this for a month, I would recommend having the site assessed by your PCP/Family Physician.
Avatar n tn My doctor wants me to have open MRI of Pituatary with IV contrast. Can this procedure be done without the IV contrast? A family member had the same test done and suffered serious allergic reaction to the material.
Avatar f tn If you only had the oral contrast (not dye that was injected through an IV) then it should not cause kidney pain. Oral contrast is excreted via the intestine (with a bowel movement) and would not affect kidney functions. Oral contrast can however cause abdominal cramping and pain. Is it possible that the pain you feel is not necessarily your kidney but your abdomen? I would give it a day or so and if the pain persists then I would let your doctor know.
4117735 tn?1349962369 Is it OK to double, or tipple, your medication? I take Glipizide 10 mg. The reason asked is that I have been monitoring my glucose and it has been between 200 - 300, and I would like to lower my readings.
Avatar n tn msjazz is right, the 'oral' contrast is used so the radiologist can see the GI tract and such (it helps visualize it better and can identify abnormalities better than without). The IV contrast is used to highlight and identify other organs (for instance, kidneys, etc.) that will not be visible easily without it (it can help identify abnormalities that was as well).
Avatar m tn For Hashimoto's, any advice for having a CT scan where they are going to use IV contrast (with iodine)? Also taking oral barium. I read that it may create hyperthyroidism in some cases. So, should take levothyroxine like normal? Is selenium or anything else recommended? Finally, any experiences you have had? To my knowledge, I do not have an iodine allergy or renal issues. But I have read where iodine is contradicted with Hashimoto. Thank you!
Avatar f tn No, one ct with iv contrast was performed on my abdomen, the other ct was done on my lungs also with iv contrast, all normal. I've had uc for 8 years and this feels somewhat like a flare up but not totally,I started asacol three days ago it has helped with the pain on my right side and rectum ,and no my dr did not mention a colonoscopy. Also I've not had all symtoms of a flare so I'm not sure what is going on......... sorry it took so long to get back busy mom........
Avatar f tn yes IV contrast and oral contrast was used.
Avatar f tn I went into the emergency room complaining of flu like symptons and my chest ached, beathing badly. I was given several bottles of IV and wasnt voiding. I was given contrast dye to check for blood clots in the lungs?? From there it was all down hill and from there i was sent to ICU. Kidney failure, respiratory failure. I am still in my fortys and always healthy as a horse. My gut is telling me they have me to much contrast dye and that caused me to go down hill??
Avatar f tn So I had to have an MRI w/ contrast. This is my first time having contrast. For 2-3 days my upper body, especially neck and shoulders hurt and was stiff. Not like joint pain, but like I was bruised... Of note, I also had taken diazepam cause I'm claustrophobic. Anyone else ever experience this? Or am I just a weirdo? Side effect of the contrast?
Avatar m tn are oral and IV contrast different where she may be allergic to oral and not IV? are CT and MRI contrast different where she may be allergic to CT and not MRI? are there different types of contrast and what types can cause allergic reactions? thank you!

2053416 tn?1330411192 I also take glipizide. The gulmetza does not seem to be working for me. My sugars are in the 200 + - range. Is there another generation 1 or 2 diabetes medicine that I can take with the glipizide that will work as good as the actos did and not cost so much? I would like to get off the glumetza. I am really thinking about asking the doctor to put me back on insulin (novolin R). Thank you for your input.
Avatar n tn I have elevated liver enzymes due to hepatic adenoma. Currently taking glipizide for high blood sugar, but is causing side effects. Weight gain, extreme low blood sugar, restless sleep. What can I take instead that will not affect the liver?
Avatar n tn am now taking glipizide 5 mg along with colestipol 1gr twice daily and gabapentin 300mg 3 times daily and my blood sugar levels are staying high. First time on all these meds and my sugar levels were fine on lisonpril. Could one of thse being causing the high readings. My diet is the same if not lower in sugar and calories.
