Avatar f tn I went into the emergency room complaining of flu like symptons and my chest ached, beathing badly. I was given several bottles of IV and wasnt voiding. I was given contrast dye to check for blood clots in the lungs?? From there it was all down hill and from there i was sent to ICU. Kidney failure, respiratory failure. I am still in my fortys and always healthy as a horse. My gut is telling me they have me to much contrast dye and that caused me to go down hill??
Avatar f tn The MRI with contrast provides a clearer image, albeit at some risk due to dye toxicity and adverse reactions to the dye. It's a matter of risk benefit. For most diagnostic purposes an MRI without dye contrast is sufficient, however if your physician suggests such a procedure he has good reason.
Avatar f tn Contrast dye, is what I suspect, made my susceptible thyroid fail. 6 weeks after I had contrast dye, my seemingly normal life went horribly awry. The doctors told me to not have contrast dye again unless the benefits outweigh the risks. I went completely hyper for about 1-2 months then went hypo after, and since then have been diagnosed with Hashi's. Now I just ride the hyper/hypo rollercoaster until the thing dies (if it ever does!
Avatar f tn If it is anything like a CT scan with contrast - the waiver form for the dye injection had too many side effects listed so don't read the fine print. Did feel a slight warm sensation when dye was injected. If you are not claustrophobic to begin with it's not a big deal...CT scan only lasted 15 minutes. Just relax when they do it.
Avatar n tn I had a head CT with contrast today and while the dye was being injected I had the normal side effects suchs as warmth and the feeling I wet my pants...but I also had weird heart palp, like my heart sped up and jumped around. It lasted about 5 seconds. I got a little dizzy but I'm not sure if that was from the heart palp, or from being frightened BY the heart palps. Is this a normal reaction to the dye?
577974 tn?1232522774 My reaction to the contrast dye has gotten worse with each scan. It was gradual to start with but has gotten to the point, as soon as the dye is injected I start vomiting and gagging. I had a scan 8 weeks ago and they injected an anti sickness serum first but that made no difference at all. As soon as the dye went in, I was as ill as I had been the previous time. I went for another scan today and the nurse suggested not having the dye but advised against it as the scan may not be as clear.
620877 tn?1282764097 The best thing for you to do, is ask your doctor why your MRI was not done using the MS Protocol. When using the MS Protocol, the radiologist sets the MRI machine to take thinner slices of the brain and different angles to see what he needs to see for an accurate diagnosis. This is all used based on your symptoms and history as well. Contrast should be used for the brain and the spinal MRI. I frankly do not know why your Neuro did not order contrast.
768754 tn?1373918737 I had the MRI with the contrast dye last fall. I was somewhat concerned about dye, but then did my own risk/benefit assessment since they were using it to rule out HCC based on an elevated AFP and needed to know this prior to me starting tx. With me, they did a regular imaging first, then they started the dye and I rested on a cot for a half hour or so for it to "take", then went back into the tube for the second imaging. Bring something to read and warm socks!
722661 tn?1230925283 s are getting more and more reluctant about contrast dye due to the possible damage to the kidneys. The dye has a metal compound in it that is very hard for the kidneys to flush from the body. She did tell me that anyone that is having an MRI done with "MS Protocol," does have the contrast dye. As with anyone else that was there with me that day to have an MRI with contrast, our kidney function was tested before any contrast dye was used. This was done through a blood test.
Avatar n tn An MRI image can be further improved by adding contrast. Tumors and other abnormalities will absorb the contrast dye as it progresses through your blood vessels and will glow on the scan. This facilitates detection of even the smallest of tumors, and a better idea about the location and size of a tumor and which tissues are involved.
Avatar f tn This is not a dry skin condition. He had a contrast dye MRI about four months ago and shoulder surgery following. The skin condition started approximately six week later. At first I thought it might be a fungus infection but it is non responsive to fungal creams. It doesn't itch and is wide spread on both hands. I was concerned about the dye but his hands aren't tight and shiny like nsf.
Avatar n tn is glipizide 10mg the same as glyburide 5mg / because my husband was drinking the gyburide and when we went for the new prescription it had changed to glipizide and he hasn't felt good since the change do i call his doctor
Avatar f tn I have never undergone a CT scan, and the one with the contrast dye really worries me, especially after reading some of the possible sensations, side-effects and risks of injecting the dye. Why did the urologist order both the normal CT scan AND the one with contrast dye? What are the benefits of the CT scan with contrast dye compared to an MRI? I really do not like the idea of them injecting me with some kind of dye especially when I read and hear that this is not without any risks.
2932946 tn?1344722012 Hi....sorry I was away....the CINE MRI is a moving study of the CSF flow....in real time....to see if it pulsates along with ur BP and contrast is used, it is done in 2 parts, ,the first, is similar to all other MRI's u have had, the 2nd uses a BP clip or leads and contrast and instead of pics takes a "movie" of the CSF. An MRA is a specific type of MRI that captures images of the body's blood vessels.
Avatar m tn 3 days ago i had a CT scan with contrast dye, last night i had a low-grade fever 37,5 C and some nasty chills/shivering,today i still have low grade fever but no chills, can it be from the contrast dye?
Avatar n tn I had an MRI yesterday with the contrast dye & today I woke up with the most excruciating shoulder pain. I can barely move my fingers without being in terrible pain...is this related? I didnt do anything yesterday that would cause my shoulder pain. I did not drink as much water as I should have, but Is there anything I can do to stop this pain. I don't have health insurance so I'd really try to avoid the doc.
4696380 tn?1359307042 I'm going to have to get a spinal when I finally get in to see my Neurologist (4mos.from now) to confirm strongly suspected MS (MRI & symptoms). I've had a Myelogram in the past, & experienced an awful allergy to the contrast dye - is it entirely necessary to use contrast for a spinal? Thanks!!
Avatar n tn If you have a CT scan with contrast dye, the contrast dye often has a high iodine content. The contrast dye can mess up your levels, especially if you are hyper already. There is another type of contrast dye you can be given, I think. That's the way I understand it, although I may be mistaken.
Avatar n tn Ask about whether contrast dye will be used, and if there is a contrast dye that is iodine free. The contrast dye would be my only concern.
Avatar f tn That being said, these are extremely rare, and a dye contrast MRI represents a significant advance over all means of diagnosing certain problems. It is reasonable to be nervous, but the risk of an fatal adverse event is about the same as you getting hit by a meterorite. These things happen, but they are extremely rare. In terms of risk-bebefit, the risk is very small, the benefits are tremendous. Don't worry yourself.
