647391 tn?1275016633 I routinely have blood sugars in the 150 range my A!C has been 7.7 and 8.2. I was suppose to have some foot surgery, but it was cancel because of the A1c. It is the 1st time I was told I couldn't have surgery because of the diabetes. My regular doctor signed off on me having surgery. The foot surgeon wouldn't do it. I just didn't think my blood sugar level was of any concern.
Avatar f tn Eventually I went on 1000mg twice a day Janumet, and 2.5XL Glipizide, it worked for a while. I recently gained 8 lbs. but not sure it was the glipizide. On my second day of Victoza, so far ok. Interested to hear what kind of reaction you had to Victoza.
Avatar f tn I had a contrast IV for a Chest CT. It infiltrated, causing pain and swelling. I need a follow-up scan (a 6-month check). What are the chances this will happen again. I have tiny veins and am nervous.
Avatar n tn is glipizide 10mg the same as glyburide 5mg / because my husband was drinking the gyburide and when we went for the new prescription it had changed to glipizide and he hasn't felt good since the change do i call his doctor
Avatar n tn I had an IV inserted for contrast dye for an MRI. Now the area is a lump, swollen, red , and itchy. Any ideas what to do?
Avatar n tn My husband has a rather large kidney stone that is taking it's time passing. This isn't his first stone he typically has a flare-up every year. This time he was put on Tamsulosin and hydromorphone. It's been 48 hrs and although he is urinating (quite heavily) every 15 minutes or so, he has become very bloated and uncomfortable. His belly is distended and hard to the touch and we aren't sure why. He is a diabetic-taking metformin and glipizide orally 2x daily.
Avatar f tn I am a type 2 diabetic and I concerned about fasting (religious) and taking glipizide. I have been on metformin for over 14 years and have had to recently add glucotrol to my regimen. I do not have any low blood sugar symptoms at all and I am scared of the time I have to restrain from eating. Is any one else ever dealt with this?
Avatar n tn I also take 500mg metformin after a meal(breakfast and dinner) and was advised to take 5mg glipizide before meals (breakfast and lunch) but sometimes I measure my bs before and notice it's sometimes 70-90 . A little about me: I don't eat at regular intervals, I don't snack , I have 3 meals a day . Wake up at 530 go to work, eat breakfast at 9 and then my lunch around 12 , dinner between 5-630. No snacks. Thank you for taking the time to read this.
772785 tn?1237737313 For me this is not even a question. Here's something that made me laugh. My doctor ordered an MRI of my brain to see if I had MS. When she gave me the order I asked if they would use contrast and she said no..... that being said here's what happened. So I get to the MRI place at the hospital and they take me back and start an IV. This gets my attention.... I asked why and she said "for your contrast material of course!".
Avatar n tn msjazz is right, the 'oral' contrast is used so the radiologist can see the GI tract and such (it helps visualize it better and can identify abnormalities better than without). The IV contrast is used to highlight and identify other organs (for instance, kidneys, etc.) that will not be visible easily without it (it can help identify abnormalities that was as well).
Avatar m tn Sounds like the nurse or tech hit a valve in the vein and/or the IV contrast irritated the vein. Since you have had this for a month, I would recommend having the site assessed by your PCP/Family Physician.
2053416 tn?1330411192 Due to a lot of weight gain. My doctor took me off actos and put me on glumetza. I also take glipizide. The gulmetza does not seem to be working for me. My sugars are in the 200 + - range. Is there another generation 1 or 2 diabetes medicine that I can take with the glipizide that will work as good as the actos did and not cost so much? I would like to get off the glumetza. I am really thinking about asking the doctor to put me back on insulin (novolin R). Thank you for your input.
765921 tn?1240405239 But if I have it with and without, then do I go in and have the first MRI just normal, and then they hook me up to an IV or however they do the contrast dye stuff, and then put me back in the MRI machine to do it again? I just want to know what exactly to expect. To me, this sounds like the only way to do it unless it is two different sessions. I had a nerve conduction study and EMG on my right arm in January, and it came back completely normal.
Avatar n tn Can this procedure be done without the IV contrast? A family member had the same test done and suffered serious allergic reaction to the material.
Avatar f tn I have had 3 echos all coming up with EF of 35 to 40%. I then had an echo with contrast that showed 30% EF. During this procedure the IV came out of my arm. Does the have any impact on these results? I was under the impression that echo results gave lower readings than one with contrast. I have no symptoms of HF. I work out at least 4 times per week doing cardio and weight training. I am thinking about changing cardiologists. Input appreciated. BP is 125/68 and resting pulse is in the 60s.
Avatar f tn I had a partial nephrectomy on my right kidney for a malignant tumor. Today I had follow up testing done with contrast die and iodine or whatever they put in the four big glasses that I had to drink every 15 min. Well, now it's 11 hours later and my kidney is really hurting very painful 7 on the pain scale. I took an oral toridol and it is t helping at all. Will this pass? Is it normal? Any help please.
4117735 tn?1349962369 The reason asked is that I have been monitoring my glucose and it has been between 200 - 300, and I would like to lower my readings.
Avatar m tn For Hashimoto's, any advice for having a CT scan where they are going to use IV contrast (with iodine)? Also taking oral barium. I read that it may create hyperthyroidism in some cases. So, should take levothyroxine like normal? Is selenium or anything else recommended? Finally, any experiences you have had? To my knowledge, I do not have an iodine allergy or renal issues. But I have read where iodine is contradicted with Hashimoto. Thank you!
Avatar f tn No, one ct with iv contrast was performed on my abdomen, the other ct was done on my lungs also with iv contrast, all normal. I've had uc for 8 years and this feels somewhat like a flare up but not totally,I started asacol three days ago it has helped with the pain on my right side and rectum ,and no my dr did not mention a colonoscopy. Also I've not had all symtoms of a flare so I'm not sure what is going on......... sorry it took so long to get back busy mom........
Avatar f tn yes IV contrast and oral contrast was used.
Avatar f tn I went into the emergency room complaining of flu like symptons and my chest ached, beathing badly. I was given several bottles of IV and wasnt voiding. I was given contrast dye to check for blood clots in the lungs?? From there it was all down hill and from there i was sent to ICU. Kidney failure, respiratory failure. I am still in my fortys and always healthy as a horse. My gut is telling me they have me to much contrast dye and that caused me to go down hill??
Avatar f tn Hmmm, I had an MRI with contrast last Saturday and I had no effects from that. They tech told me to expect some burning once he was injecting the contrast but I felt fine. On another note, I remember one time I went for this blood test and the tech really screwed my arm up I was hurting for days. Could it be that it is from the IV/access site?
393986 tn?1303825975 Hi Everybody!!! I thought I would post this because it is very interesting and sometimes can be life changing. As many of you know I have recently been dx'd with hyperthyroidism as well as the Stills and so forth. I found out that because I have had so many CT's done with the contrast agent radioactive iodine it has damaged my thyroid.
Avatar f tn operative and post radiotherapy state of right temporal Glioblastoma. Pre and post contrast MR imaging of BRAIN was done using following protocol: Evidence of right sided craniotomy is noted. Irregular CSF signal intensity area is noted in all sequences in right temporal region with mild exvacuo dilatation of right lateral ventricle. Small nodular enhancing area with surrounding gyriform enhancement is noted in posterior aspect of right temporal lobe and there is adjacent dural enhancement.
