Glipizide and contrast dye

Common Questions and Answers about Glipizide and contrast dye

Avatar f tn The MRI with contrast provides a clearer image, albeit at some risk due to dye toxicity and adverse reactions to the dye. It's a matter of risk benefit. For most diagnostic purposes an MRI without dye contrast is sufficient, however if your physician suggests such a procedure he has good reason.
Avatar m tn CT can reveal blood flow in your brain and show aneurysm location. Sometimes a dye may be injected into a vein to highlight blood flow in your arteries and veins, CT angiogram and provide additional detail regarding appearance of brain aneurysm. MRI can create detailed images of your brain and show aneurysm’s location. Hope this helps. Take care.
Avatar f tn I went into the emergency room complaining of flu like symptons and my chest ached, beathing badly. I was given several bottles of IV and wasnt voiding. I was given contrast dye to check for blood clots in the lungs?? From there it was all down hill and from there i was sent to ICU. Kidney failure, respiratory failure. I am still in my fortys and always healthy as a horse. My gut is telling me they have me to much contrast dye and that caused me to go down hill??
Avatar f tn Please help, I was admitted to the hospital and they tagged me as sepsis. I have them my medication and one included phentermine, a diet pill. Alone with that why would they check my lungs and give me contrast?? Wouldn't they check my kidneys first and wouldn't they avoid all together contrast dye if they labeled me with sepsis?? Being that my understanding Sepsis can damage kidneys and to top it off taking a diet pill??
Avatar f tn I have never undergone a CT scan, and the one with the contrast dye really worries me, especially after reading some of the possible sensations, side-effects and risks of injecting the dye. Why did the urologist order both the normal CT scan AND the one with contrast dye? What are the benefits of the CT scan with contrast dye compared to an MRI? I really do not like the idea of them injecting me with some kind of dye especially when I read and hear that this is not without any risks.
647391 tn?1275016633 I routinely have blood sugars in the 150 range my A!C has been 7.7 and 8.2. I was suppose to have some foot surgery, but it was cancel because of the A1c. It is the 1st time I was told I couldn't have surgery because of the diabetes. My regular doctor signed off on me having surgery. The foot surgeon wouldn't do it. I just didn't think my blood sugar level was of any concern.
Avatar f tn Eventually I went on 1000mg twice a day Janumet, and 2.5XL Glipizide, it worked for a while. I recently gained 8 lbs. but not sure it was the glipizide. On my second day of Victoza, so far ok. Interested to hear what kind of reaction you had to Victoza.
Avatar n tn It is wise to fast with any dye contrast procedure because on rare occasions there are reactions to the dye. These reactions sometimes involve vomiting, and if you are supine in the machine it can cause compromise of the airway before they can fix the situation up. Thus the reasoning is, keep the stomach clear of food. This is true for any dye injection procedure, whether with a CT or an MRA.
Avatar f tn I had to have alot of test and a few that had contrast and even one that was nuclear. My doctor is wonderful and really knows what he is doing, his comment to me about the risks of the contrast, and nuclear are the results of tests are more informative than the risk or danger of the contrast to your health.
Avatar m tn 3 days ago i had a CT scan with contrast dye, last night i had a low-grade fever 37,5 C and some nasty chills/shivering,today i still have low grade fever but no chills, can it be from the contrast dye?
Avatar f tn However, they told me that this dye is a different type. I had no problems with the dye. I liked the cool cloth on my eyes and music...but it is time consuming and the breathing is an issue, but just try to relax and you will do fine. Trust me I am a very fearful person and I was able to do it, so you can too. Let us know how it goes. Ohhh and ask for a copy of the disk...cool pictures!
Avatar n tn I had a head CT with contrast today and while the dye was being injected I had the normal side effects suchs as warmth and the feeling I wet my pants...but I also had weird heart palp, like my heart sped up and jumped around. It lasted about 5 seconds. I got a little dizzy but I'm not sure if that was from the heart palp, or from being frightened BY the heart palps. Is this a normal reaction to the dye?
577974 tn?1232522774 My reaction to the contrast dye has gotten worse with each scan. It was gradual to start with but has gotten to the point, as soon as the dye is injected I start vomiting and gagging. I had a scan 8 weeks ago and they injected an anti sickness serum first but that made no difference at all. As soon as the dye went in, I was as ill as I had been the previous time. I went for another scan today and the nurse suggested not having the dye but advised against it as the scan may not be as clear.
620877 tn?1282764097 The best thing for you to do, is ask your doctor why your MRI was not done using the MS Protocol. When using the MS Protocol, the radiologist sets the MRI machine to take thinner slices of the brain and different angles to see what he needs to see for an accurate diagnosis. This is all used based on your symptoms and history as well. Contrast should be used for the brain and the spinal MRI. I frankly do not know why your Neuro did not order contrast.
768754 tn?1373918737 ve read some negative things online about what contrast dye can do to the liver and kidneys. My hepatologist ordered a creatinine screen prior. I assume this is to check kidney function. I'm a little nervous but believe my hepatologist wouldn't order this if he didn't think it was safe. I'm wondering if anyone who's had this procedure would be willing to share their experience. Any side effects? Thanks.
Avatar n tn An MRI image can be further improved by adding contrast. Tumors and other abnormalities will absorb the contrast dye as it progresses through your blood vessels and will glow on the scan. This facilitates detection of even the smallest of tumors, and a better idea about the location and size of a tumor and which tissues are involved.
722661 tn?1230925283 s are getting more and more reluctant about contrast dye due to the possible damage to the kidneys. The dye has a metal compound in it that is very hard for the kidneys to flush from the body. She did tell me that anyone that is having an MRI done with "MS Protocol," does have the contrast dye. As with anyone else that was there with me that day to have an MRI with contrast, our kidney function was tested before any contrast dye was used. This was done through a blood test.
8958586 tn?1481360712 ve been having difficulty taking deep breaths. It was a contrast CT and they used my port access to give me the contrast. After they were finished, they didn't flush the port, but just administered the heparin. After my IVIg treatments, they saline flush my port with two syringes before they do the heparin. I'm nervous about asking nurses to do something, as have had bad experiences with nurses needing to be right.
765921 tn?1240405239 But if I have it with and without, then do I go in and have the first MRI just normal, and then they hook me up to an IV or however they do the contrast dye stuff, and then put me back in the MRI machine to do it again? I just want to know what exactly to expect. To me, this sounds like the only way to do it unless it is two different sessions. I had a nerve conduction study and EMG on my right arm in January, and it came back completely normal.
Avatar f tn Yes biowham response makes sense. Each time I have had an MRI done the MRI center calls me the day before with a list of questions. Even though I go to the same center each time. They ask the questions each time. That would really be the time to bring that up. And the article about Gd dye and kidney issues, I wasn't certain how that tied into anaphylactic shock? That's a different animal altogether. A very acutely dangerous animal, much different from the affects on kidneys.
Avatar m tn The HSG uses an iodine contrast dye that is injected into the uterus. My gyn is aware that I have Grave disease and am allergy to shellfish. I was euthyroid before the HSG procedure. 2 weeks after the HSG, my TSH decreased from 1.47 to 0.04. My Ft4 and Ft3 increase from mid range to the upper range. My question is does HSG trigger a new episode of grave disease?
Avatar f tn This is not a dry skin condition. He had a contrast dye MRI about four months ago and shoulder surgery following. The skin condition started approximately six week later. At first I thought it might be a fungus infection but it is non responsive to fungal creams. It doesn't itch and is wide spread on both hands. I was concerned about the dye but his hands aren't tight and shiny like nsf.
Avatar n tn is glipizide 10mg the same as glyburide 5mg / because my husband was drinking the gyburide and when we went for the new prescription it had changed to glipizide and he hasn't felt good since the change do i call his doctor
Avatar n tn Hi guys, I'm really worried by some symptoms I've been experiencing including monocular double vision or ghosting vision and loud ringing in my ears. I've had an MRI done with and without contrast dye which was clear and am wondering if that is enough to find an aneurysm? I've made another appt with my neurologist to demand an MRA but in the meantime is there any reassurance to be had from the contrast MRI i had done?
