Avatar f tn NEW YORK (Reuters Health) – Patients with type 2 diabetes who also have liver cirrhosis associated with hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection fare significantly better when they’re treated with metformin, results of a French study indicate.
Avatar f tn My Dr. wants to place me on Metformin or Glucophage. Does anyone here with MS take one of these? If so, what kind of problems might I expect? What good benefits do you receive? Any info is much appreciated!!!!
Avatar f tn HI, Pregnancy is not impossible in women with PCOS. With proper treatment conceiving will be possible. Metformin and clomid both are good drugs. Metformin will help normalise your hormones and clomid helps with induction of ovulation. This can be taken for 3 to 6 months. If there are no results then you will need further evaluation and treatment by an infertility expert. Hope this helps. Take care and good luck.
245020 tn?1209657943 I take 1000mg of Metformin a day. Metformin will upset your stomach, cause diarrhea, etc. but that only lasts a couple weeks. I'm currently in my 2nd month of taking Metformin and I'm taking a pregnancy test at the end of the week! Did your doctor not explain the side effects? Upset stomach is a normal side effect. Check out soulcysters (dot) net and click on their Metformin forum.
Avatar f tn Has anyone had daily headaches with metformin or hot flashes? Also does anyone know how long it takes for it to work?

Avatar f tn Will I be successful in conceiving our child/ren with metformin and after I get off birth control?
Avatar m tn I have been on provera in the past and it induced a period... with metformin it took a month or two to kick in but since starting it in 2009 I haven't missed a period becauae of the metformin. I have been unable to get pregnate since 2004 amd had my first dr appt yesterday I am 8weeks pregnate. Keep the faith it can happen.
245020 tn?1209657943 Hi there - Metformin can be a bit rough on your stomache but it can also work very quickly! Stick with it!! I was diagnosed with PCOS and insulin resistance and tried to conceive naturally for almost 18months with no success. WE had also been off b/c for 5 years and not fallen pregnant either. 8 months with a chiropracter and on my 3rd month I fell pregnant for the first time. I am now just a few weeks away from giving birth to our first born - a son...
Avatar f tn I was diagnosed with PCOS in August of 2010 and was put on Metformin, one pill a day to help regulate my menstrual. I have been very active and lost 100 lbs before being diagnosed, and so exercise and eating healthy are not a new thing to me. I exercise 6 days a week, and since being on Meformin. The medication is working with one problem, but I'm not sure why it isn't helping in the other area of weight. I heard that people loose weight with Metformin! So I'm stuck as what to do??
Avatar f tn With my 2 yr old, I was on metformin for about 7 months when I conceived. I am now pregnant with my second. This time I tried clomid for 6 cycles the switched to letrozole. After 4 cycles (and about to just go back to metformin) I finally conceived. Good luck!
1724834 tn?1310225415 it could also take longer with you being on the metformin...it helps with regulation of the period...I had the mirena IUD a few years back and it never stopped my period...having PCOS I have found that my body will fight to be normal and have periods...the normal I mean is a normal bleeding woman...and it ***** but it's do-able....what dose of metformin are you taking??
Avatar f tn Our community members can provide advice from their own experience with Metformin, but we always recommend checking with a physician before making changes to any drug regimen. Thanks!
325224 tn?1342795914 I am not taking any extra precautions. I did IVF with both of them.. Am taking progesterone, estrogen, prenatals, metformin, and baby aspirin. The metformin and baby aspirin is suppose to help with the miscarriage risk.
494640 tn?1262737989 Studies have shown that women with pcos respond well with metformin and clomid, but of course each women is different. There is lots of great info out there on pcos and metformin.
Avatar n tn ve been diagnosed with PCOS, and prescribed with Metformin for the same reasons, I feel amazing on it, at first I had a reaction (severe runs) but powered through and it is also what helped me fall pregnant. I am still on it now that I'm pregnant but from my experience, the metformin does not, or rather has not caused exhaustion for me, probably in fact the opposite. I think your doc needs to investigate if the two drugs are counter acting each other.
801413 tn?1333539276 I also was diagnosed with pcos about 3 yrs ago. My RE started me on metformin and clomid as well, I just finished my 2nd cycle of clomid I'm on CD15.
1801238 tn?1316477007 I got pregnant the first month that I took metformin with out clomid but it was a tubal pregnancy and had to be removed. I am now pregnant again from the combination. I know metformin, without insurance at Walmart is only $5 for a months prescription. If you can afford to go to the doctor once more for this it might help! Metformin (Glucophage) helps to regulate your insulin allowing the release of female horomones which helps you to ovulate. Good Luck!
878888 tn?1319634044 I have 2 questions, If I take Metformin with evening meal and thyroid in am is there still a chance for interaction? Is there a good diet that works for people who have somewhat high blood sugar level but not at extremes that will help me lose weight. Sorry for the book, but am really concerned as I am a single mom with a 15 yr old still to raise and I must be able to keep working to support both of us.
Avatar f tn Right now im on prometrium to induced this 70 day cycle and then I start metformin. Once all the testing is done i'll be going to see my RE and talking about possible fertility treatments to induce ovulation. Ive heard clomid is good, other says femera is better. Id like to know all your opinions. And also I did ovulate on my own and had a normal-ish cycle in june it was 39 days and ovulated on CD 27. Is that somewhat a good sign? And could metformin alone possibly help me ovulate?
1193719 tn?1264871316 Both your T3 and T4 tests look like total T3 and T4 to me. If your lab report doesn't specifically say that these are "frees", then they're total. Unfortunately, TT3 and TT4 are considered obsolete tests and have been replaced by FT3 and FT4, which tell how much of each of these hormones is available to your cells. Your results for T3 and T4 are quite high in their ranges (T3 is actually above range).
Avatar f tn I was diagnosed with PCOS. At first I was happy to finally know why I hadn't ever been pregnant. I started with clomid but I didn't work for me. I tried metformin but I was sick and stopped taking it. I started going to a fertility center with the little money I had. I did the blood work and I had to get my tubes checked but had to cancel the appointment twice. I was at my breaking point thinking it would never happen. Couple months after I noticed my appetite was changing.
1302038 tn?1439575232 but dont u ovulate with a normal cycle???
Avatar f tn I am on Metformin to attempt helping to regulate my cycle. I was diagnosed with PCOS in January. I recently had an HSG to see how my tubes are =which was normal, My Pelvic US was normal, but did show a thin uterine lining. Do any of you know any tricks to get pregnant without me having to go on clomid? Any foods that can thicken uterine lining to help me carry a child?
Avatar f tn Yes its normal.Your uterus stretches and contracts as its growing and making room for baby, causing the light cramps and sometimes little sharp pains in the abdomin. As for the metformin, ask your docter about it.If there's no reason to continue, dont unless he or she says otherwise.
Avatar n tn It is NOT impossible for a woman to become pregnant with PCOS. I have a 2 1/2 year old, and I was diagnosed with PCOS when I was 14. We actually were not trying to get pregnant, but were not trying not to (if it happened Great, if it didn't okay). I did not use any fert drugs to get pregnant with him. So believe me it's not impossible....nothing is impossible with God. =) Best of luck to you!
