The last thing anybody would want is to stop the Gleevec, which is a wonder drug of anti-cancer treatment. So we must think of "managing" the hyponatremia problem.
I haven't found anything about long term use of Gleevec. But what springs to mind is that she might have started some other drug recently, which is turning mild hyponatremia to severe hyponatremia. Even ibuprofen. Has she?
I was diagnosed with CML and given Gleevec 400 ml. After taking gleevec for 2 weeks doctor took additional blood test. My WBC dropped from 36.5 to 7.1 and all other blood counts came down to normal range. I'm wondering if gleevec could give such fast hematological response or I was possibly misdiagnosed originally. I don't and didn't have any symptoms, my spleen and liver weren't enlarged, no enlarged lymph. Should I get second opinion asap? Please, help me.
I was diagnosed last year and was immediatley put on gleevec 400mg/day.At my last consult my metabolic stats had risen,hence blood tests to determine if the gleevec is no longer working.I am still in firstphase and wonder what my options are if the gleevec is no longer an option.Amin pretty good form,just very tired and a lot of bone pain.
Hi, I don't know the answer -- but since both CML and Gleevec toxicity produce anemia because of marrow suppression, maybe it's not possible to tell the difference. E.g., both would show a low reticulocyte count.
This full text paper on anemia from Gleevec https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10.1002/ajh.23879 shows that other signs such as red blood cell size can vary, so that doesn't seem to help. Sorry.
Is it possible that after taking gleevec for only two weeks WBC droped from 36.7 to 7? All other blood counts are also came back to normal range. Could doctor make mistake in diagnosis of CML? Maybe I should get seg second opinion?
After two weeks on 400mlg gleevec my WBC droped from 36.5 to 7.1. My doctor told to come for additional test in two weeks. Now my WBC is 1.3 and absolute neutrophils count is 0.04. I was told to stay home on antibiotics. How long it may take for my counts to clime back to safe range. And of course, I'm off gleevec right now. Does it seem that dose of 400mlg is too high for me.
Am on Gleevec 400mg, now having problems with blisters on the palm. What can I do about it?
I have CML and was treated with Gleevec for 4 years and achieved remission. I have for the past several months been experiencing sudden onset of weakness which last for hours, to days. My blood pressure which has remained under control for several years with atenolol has been running 145/105 and higher for the past three to four months. I have a feeling of fullness in my stomach, and I have sporatic episodes of mild coughing, this occurs maybe once a week.
You might find he starts to be able to tolerate the pill. Gleevec is first choice for treating CML, and if he is doing good in every other way then encourage him that he is doing great.

My dog has liver cancer and has quite a bit of ascites. He starts getting lethargic, will not eat, and his belly gets huge. We get him tapped then he is his old self again for about a week. It seems like this fluid builds up quickly, and when we look at his belly we feel we have to get it drained becasue it looks extremely uncomfortable. He does not appear to have trouble breathing. How often can we get this done. At present he goes in weekly and they drain about 2 liters.
Primary liver cancer is fairly unusual, and the presence of a liver cancer usually causes no pain until it is quite progressed, so I believe with clear ultrasound and clear CT-Scan, you can exclude liver cancer as the cause of your pain. (Furthermore, unless you have a pre-existing liver disease such as cirrhosis, hepatitis, hemochromatosis, primary liver cancer would be highly unusual.)

We met with the Oncologist, he specializes in GI cancer - particularly primary liver cancer. He confirmed that based on the MRI he does have a tumor, it is larger than we were previously told about 13 cm. He reviewed all previous scans, labs, and biopsy that he had on a area of his liver about 4 years ago. He indeed confirmed that there was no cancer present prior to now, and that it is a very aggressive and fast growing cancer.
i get my heart checked every 2 weeks now and i am fine with the qt thing. i take the chemo pill called gleevec and have to force myself to eat so i dont get sick when i take it. how long will these withdrawel problems go on? i have xanax to take (1mg) but dont work to good. i should would appreciate any advice from any one on how to deal with these issues, family dr says its anxiety but i think its the withdrawels from the high dose of elavil.

I'm a 30 yr old female. About 4 yrs ago, they found a hemangioma on liver while doing an ultrasound fir something else. This year they were doing another US for something else and they found 2 more. They are in the right and left lobe. The drs say not to worry, but i requested a follow up US. Can they tell the difference btwn a hemangioma and cancer. Really worried!
The liver is the organ that is required to be functioning well with chemo (hence all the checks for liver enzymes).
As for the lymphedema in her legs, please encourage her to ask her doc for a referal to a physical therapist that can assist with this condition. That is imperative. There are things that can be done to alleviate some of the pain and swelling, although it will not make it go away totally. That is something she will be fighting for the rest of her life, but it is manageable.
A CT scan is not used to diagnose the degree of liver damage it is used to find liver tumors, bleeding from the liver, and some liver diseases. You need to have a liver biopsy to determine how damaged you liver is after 35 years.
Post your CT results so we can see what they found.
