Avatar f tn However, the individual becomes subject to the unconscious substitution of hysterical symptoms (noted above). That's what separates conversion disorder from an anxiety disorder. When the physical symptoms manifest (or when they are converted unconsciously), anxiety is relieved in the case of conversion disorder, and the person is indifferent to them (not phased by them).
Avatar f tn It can also be due to anemia, hyperthyroidism (in your case ruled out), fever, low blood sugar, anxiety and panic disorder, heart causes like sinus tachycardia and palpitations, alcohol, coffee, effect of certain drugs etc. Discuss with your doctor. Take care!

Avatar n tn I am 26 and suffered ocd my whole life. I feel that Luvox helped the most. I needed a high dose, but it helped. However withdrawl can be difficult. When I stopped it for a year, I started having strange urinary problems that can't be diagnosed. I know they are a result of the Luvox. I only hope they will go away when I start up on Luvox again. Good Luck.
Avatar m tn Often these symptoms may reflect emotional/psychiatric problems related to stress (what is called somatization disorder). The latter is a true medical condition whereby instead of a patient experiencing depression or anxiety, they experience physical symptoms, and once the stress is addressed, the symptoms resolve. You should continue working with your primary care physician regarding your constellation of symptoms.
Avatar n tn Trust me, I've been watching and learning from these fins doc's on here for over a year now, they know what they are talking about and you would be amazed at just how many people have BFS as well as chronic fatigue syndrome and generalized anxiety, all of which make the twitches and symptoms worse and happen more often.
Avatar n tn Second, you mention that you have been experiencing fasciculations for over 2 years. Generalized fasciculations are typically not associated with ALS. Fasciculations due to ALS are caused by death of the nerves and necrosis of the muscles enervated by those specific nerves. The muscle cramping has the same etiology. However, fasciculations and cramping usually occur after muscle weakness and atrophy, although there have been exceptions.

Avatar n tn She has a thoracic and lumbar spin MRI today. Do these signs and symptoms sound like they match any type of disorder such as MS, MD or ALS? She doesnt have any muscle weakness, and the way her symptoms started out, all the doctors say that they dont feel she has any conditions that they can think of. Shes also been tested for Lymes by the way. I know that sometimes these things take time to show up, but any help or answers you can give us would be appreciated.
Avatar n tn By nature I am a very anxious person and have been diganosed with Generalized Anxiety Disorder/Panic, for which I took Zoloft for about 6 months (It helped alot). I am going for a neurological exam next month and pray to god that it comes back normal. I am also worried that it might be ALS. I am 30 year old male.
Avatar n tn and told me the symptoms would eventually go away, but he was kind enough to suspect that it was a uric acid disorder. I had my father conduct a blood test to confirm that my blood PH level was high, and it was not, it was normal! My father's own DRE was perfectly normal as well, but I noticed a very strange sensation of relief after having the DRE which lasted throught the day (I will explain later) It was during my third visit that my doctor told me to live with my symptoms.
Avatar n tn it's worth mentioning that depending on what part of the brain that one's seizures originate, feelings of anxiety, depression, agitation, (or what have you,) are often associated with epilepsy due to the abnormal electrical activity going on (sometimes fairly chronically and subclinically) in the area of the brain where the problem is. In addition to the on-line forums that Jan has mentioned, I wanted to mention
Avatar n tn Benign fasciculations are really bothersome and cause a great deal of anxiety (which makes them worse, by the way). We are really unsure of the etiology of these but some patients report a preceding viral illness. They eventually go away on their own (I have them occasionally so I can tell you how frustrating they can be and be creditable). I hope I have eased you mind alittle.
Avatar n tn There are different ideas as to etiology but seems to be brought on by different things. Stress, chemicals. Good way to tell if this is ezcema is if it is opened, it will be red inside, but once opened, will soon stop itching and crust over. Only small amt of clear fluid can be expressed but no pus. Be careful as these can become infected if opened. I find that the biggest cause is dry skin. Chemicals can bring this on.
Avatar n tn Nothing else was found in CTs of abdomen and groin. I have a biopsy scheduled for next month, but have read myself into anxiety attacks. I have read that anything above 1 CM is abnormal. I have no pain in the nodes themselves but have developed pain in the neck which seems like a stiff neck, and pain exists with any pressure from straining or lifting, also movement related pain in neck, chest and spine in the same region.
Avatar n tn As I had mentioned in my earlier posts I am already taking an ammino acid high potency complex which is really helping reduce my anxiety and also allowing me to sleep. When I mentioned about the continuing muscle weakness, she has suggested A.O.R. brand magnesium Malate Renew which is used for fibromyalgia and other neurological problems. All of these are totally natural ways to help the body to heal itself.

Avatar n tn I have read that others have had a diagnosis of GAD (generalized anxiety disorder) and IBS (irritable bowel syndrome) related to these events. I have been diagnosed with both in the past. I am sure that this is vasovagal fainting associated with valsalva. Since I do an aura each time, I have thought that I must have had a seizure while passed-out. This has never been confirmed. My wife witnessed me passing out while on the toilet once. She said I did not have a seizure.
