Common Questions and Answers about Forteo how to use

forteo

Avatar n tn Hello hillre, Forteo is a man-made form of a hormone called parathyroid that exists naturally in the body. Forteo increases bone density and increases bone strength to help prevent fractures. Forteo is used to treat osteoporosis in men and women who have a high risk of bone fracture. Forteo can cause side effects that may impair your thinking or reactions. Be careful if you drive or do anything that requires you to be awake and alert. Avoid smoking cigarettes, or try to quit smoking altogether.
Avatar f tn Just was informed that I have osteoporosis. My doctor wants me to use Forteo, an injection that you use for two years.
Avatar n tn My experience with Forteo is that the calcium does not rise much and these are not common side effects - but it is possible. Also, would re-evaluate pre-Forteo PTH and calcium levels to make sure you did not have mild primary hyperpara before starting Forteo. If still in doubt, sometimes a break from the medication and a future re-challenge can help establish cause-effect.
Avatar f tn I have severe osteoporosis and am trying to take Forteo. I started out with half dose and have worked up to a full dose. The full dose 2 days in a row was disabling. My doctor suggested every other day. So I let the previous trial work its way out of my system for 5 days and tried another full dose. This is three days after the dose and I am weaker each day. I move in slow motion. My doctor is puzzled. Anyone had a similar experience?
Avatar f tn My doctor told me that I have Osteoporosis and wants me to try Forteo an injection for two years. Has anyone tried this drug and what were your side effects, if any. I don't want to make my stomach problems worse than there already are.
Avatar f tn I've been on Forteo since Feb 2011. I don't think I am having Forteo related arthralgia or any other side effects from it. I DO have sacro-iliac pain on one side only, but I believe it is from 2 falls in the past 3 months that were NOT caused by Forteo. I do know it's hard to find any forums anywhere that have current informantion or women on them.

Avatar f tn Thank you! That's good to know. I'll celebrate my 65th birthday by actively pursuing treatment!

Avatar m tn I made it to the doctor yesterday. I took those horrible fentenyl patches off and 24 hrs later, I was in the doctor's office. I showed nothing in my system. I think I felt worse than I had ever felt in my life. He said he could give me suboxone sublingual films for the withdrawals. I have to take 2 per day. I know alot of you on here know some things that I don't about this. Just like me know if it's alright to do this for 2 weeks.
Avatar n tn He scheduled a CT for confirmation. The CT confirmed the non-union. He wrote a prescription for Forteo, and the use of a bone growth stimulator, stating that if, after an additional 8 weeks there is still no sign of bone fusion, he would do a bone graft and replace the hardware. I feel as though he is not listening to my complaints of pain, edema and the inability to sleep secondary to the pain and discomfort.
1508698 tn?1360215710 The best thing to do is to stay busy. Go for a walk, clean a closet, play some music and dance. Anything but sit and think about how just one wouldn't hurt. As you know, one is never enough. It just leads back to where we started and it just gets worse. Do you have a sponsor? If not get one and call them when you get the urge to use. Do anything you can to fight it. You know that it will pass. I also find that eating helps. Especially chocolate, but that's just me.
Avatar m tn Wonder if I will feel better to be off completely and how long it will take. Also wonder if I am able to quit, then I backslide, will it be worse than before, or will I basically pick up where I left off. My closest sister died at 40, 3 years ago, due to cirrhosis from years of drinking,. (she also was a daily user of benzos and pain pills.) I wonder what physical impact just the pain pills have on a body. Does anyone here know? I have to be around for my kids and hers for a long time.
Avatar f tn I would like to post a question and I cannot figure out how either.
533193 tn?1289727345 They usually contain an insert that tells you when to start using them, depending on how long your cycles are. Ideally, you should not use first morning urine, since LH (which is what the OPKs detect) is metabolized in your body in the first part of the day. Just make sure you try to limit your liquid intake and don't pee for about three or four hours before testing (so the urine won't be too diluted). That's pretty much it.
