Avatar m tn t know what is the cause of my foot drop. What is your opinion. If it is the cyst, why do I just now get foot drop. I just turned 30 years old and nothing before now, this is my first and only child. If my foot drop is caused by this cyst, what are the differnt options to drain fluid-filled cyst from the brain, besides putting a shunt in, I have heard so many risk factors and complications later on from that I do not want to try that.
1831849 tn?1383228392 Hi Kyle, I haven't been dx, but that is one of my main symptoms. I can't usually move the toes on my left foot, but when I've been really busy (or walk too long), that weakness seems to 'travel' up my leg. I know mine involves both my knee and ankle - I tend to end up stepping higher on that side as I don't seem to be lifting my ankle properly. If I sit, I can still flex my foot up and down (although not as much as the normal side) and same with the knee.
Avatar m tn Hi I've got a foot drop from an L3/ L4 herniation happened beginning of July,,,, hospital delayed an mri even though they said I need it,,, cut along story short got results 6 weeks later,,, spinal surgeon said to me it had been left to long and is paralysed and won't recover,,, had a microdisectomy 7 weeks ago mostly for pain in leg,,, was hoping he was wrong, but still no improvement I get an orthotic in few weeks,,,, he hasn't done any test on my foot,,,, was just wondering what e
Avatar f tn After the disk herniation as well as post surgery, I now have foot drop where when my leg is extended, I cannot raise my foot. What can or should I do now to prevent this from becoming permanent? Also, the foot now feels like it is asleep all the time.
Avatar f tn It was done as an emergency for sudden onset foot drop. After surgery my foot drop did not improve and I am left with radiculopathy in my big toe & chronic back pain. Has anyone else had foot drop happen like this before? Has anyone had foot drop improve this far out of surgery? Thanks for your replies.
Avatar f tn 5 weeks ago I was diagnosed with peronealneuropathy causing foot drop I have tingling in my top of my foot my big toe is completely numb I have a lot of pain down the side of my calf I just want to know I've started physical therapy therapy I've had a MRI that shows slight stenosis on both sides and a moderate bulge on the right side which is where my foot drop is but the neurologist said he didn't think it was causing foot drop I've had a nerve conduction test and an EMG that co
Avatar m tn I could only walk with the aid of crutches, unfortunately I had a fall after tripping when my my right foot stubbed the floor due to my foot drop, as a consequence I broke my hip and had to have a hip replacement. I now wear a foot brace which keeps my foot flat but is painful to wear because of the nerve damage to my foot caused by the foot drop. There are days when I get very depressed because of being restricted to what I can do regarding normal everyday tasks.
Avatar n tn I have just gotten drop foot in the last month and also had a discetomy of L4 and L5. I am wondering how long will I be like this? Before the foot dropped Ihad a pain that ran from my knee to my ankle I didnt get much sleep during the night because of the pain. I was working extremely hard and for nearly 12 hours a day most days.

Often, neurological, muscular and anatomical problems overlap. Specific foot drop causes may include: Muscle or nerve damage. An injury to the muscles that control the ankle and toes can cause foot drop.
Avatar f tn foot drop is where u lose the ability to lift your foot (obviously) -but there can be a few nerve related causes -these can originate from in the spine or anywhere down to the foot in question. it can be caused by physical damage eg tearing -as in my case, or compression, there are also some diseases that may cause it eg lou garics syndrome (not sure of spelling). Pregnancy can be a cause -usually mild.
1452289 tn?1285614948 the pain i get aswell is not very nice sometimes its really pins and needles others its burning but my foot is always freezing. i just wanted to see if any one else has got foot drop and how you cope with it.
Avatar n tn I had surgery about 15 years ago for a prolapsed disc,I completely damaged my sciatic nerve. I have had a drop foot ever since. Does anyone know if there have been any new ideas on how to help this.
Avatar f tn Is there anyone out there that has had foot drop after having back surgery? And who has filed a lawsuit and won. Because right now I am really upset with my doctor. He said the surgery went very well and he was baffled as to why I had foot drop , And after many phones calls to his office. I finally got him to send me for an EMG, And it showed I have nerve damage from my knee down, And now he wants to turn me back over to my family doctor.
Avatar f tn Hi there. You have foot drop and severe neuropathy both feet hence a trial of sympathetic blocks or laparoscopic synovectomy should be given. Alternative drugs are amitriptyline, gabapentin etc. Glucose control if relevant should be optimized; vitamin deficiencies like B1, B6, and B12 should b corrected. Ankle foot arthrosis is tried where surgery is not feasible. If the foot drop is due to direct trauma to the dorsiflexors , surgical repair is needed.

Avatar f tn Somehow I missed your message. Have you seen any improvement in your foot drop these past few weeks? My foot drop was caused by a disc bone fragment which broke and struck my L5 nerve root. Its been 18 months for me and I do wear an AFO, ankle-foot orthosis aka brace. It's hot and I can barely tolerate. The good news is I am able to walk so much easier with it on. I don't roll over my toes and I have better control so don't lift my leg (step gait) so much now.
Avatar f tn the toe of my running shoe (yes it made that sound) on the treadmill. Drop foot (or foot drop) is caused by weakness that can be distal (ankle flexion) and/or proximal (hip) or both -- my situation. It also has different causes -- the most common causes are peripheral nerve issues such as diabetes or injury. It can also be caused by central nervous system weakness. Do you have weakness?
1337734 tn?1336234591 I have the very first signs of foot drop. My PT suggested the dorsi-lite foot splint. It's only $53 and couldn't be simpler. It's comfortable and seems effective. Avatar f tn I also suffer from foot drop on my right foot, I was falling a lot. My foot would drag and catch and down I would go, it was rather embarrassing and painful, as it was always on the gravel parking lot, never on anything soft like a bed. That was before I was diagnosed with MS or even had any idea what was going on. Once I was diagnosed and had received 5 days of IVSM, my drop foot improved some, but I still suffer with it if.
3072999 tn?1356414732 Hi Tink, I am actually a medical coder for a hospital -the ICD-10 code would be G93.5. The ICD-9 code is 384.4. Since ICD-9 is not very specific they may have put a I after to show it is a Chiari Malformation type 1. In ICD-10 it is more specific - G93.5 states Chiari Malformation 1. So I am assuming since the ICD-9 code of 384.4 just states compression of brain they had to add a 1 so it was more specific for their notes.
Avatar f tn I suppose it could have picked up pretty much anything other than NSR. Maybe a drop in HR when you were sleeping, an increase while you were moving about...maybe a run, VT, aflutter...Hopefully, it's all good and you won't be nervous. Have you called in the recordings?
678312 tn?1310010574 Hi Pam, I have read your last two posts and I was wondering if you have always had issues with your heart rate getting elevated so quickly or is this new since your ICD? I read you had brachycardia an that caused the ICD. I would think your heart is still recovering from the procedure so you may have issues until they get your settings correct. You are an inspiration to alot of people, you are living your life and not letting this issue make you a couch potato.
Avatar m tn 30PM to 6:30AM so 9 hours a night +/- an hour there. it seems after about 4 to 6 hours my heart just needs to shut down and relax some. 967168 tn?1477584489 In July 2009 I had an echo done and my EF was 55%. When I had my PM/ICD implanted in August; it shows Non-Ischemic Cardiomyopathy with an ejection fraction of 45%. Is almost an 20% drop in EF in almost 7 weeks alot? Does this now mean I DO have something wrong with my heart, that its not "structurally" normal? Now that I've had my ablation, implant and breakdown will my EF start going back up? Or how do I raise it?
Avatar m tn The later ICDs are more sophisticated and do a better of of identifying V-tach correctly and attempt to pace me out of V-tach before shocking. In the course of replacing tone ICD, I got an infection and the ICD and leads had to be removed and placed on the right side. Through all of this, I continued to exercise, but gave up competitive racing. In the last couple years, the V-tach returned about 1 or 2 times per month.
