Avatar f tn Okay where do I start...i have had tinea versicolor for over 3 years now, it covers 100% of my chest and patches travel all down my abdomen into my groin, also down my arms and on my kneck and under my armpits. I feel like a giant walking yeast infection, and nothing I have used has even remotley weakened it at all, it seems to be immune to everything I have tried.
Avatar f tn I’m a 20 year old female, and I have been dealing with tinea versicolor for going on 7 months. I’ve tried the shampoos and my doctor has prescribed me multiple rounds of fluconazole (spaced out between rounds) the rash went away after awhile, but I was not using the shampoo (I was using a natural soap on Amazon for tinea versicolor). Sadly, the rash came back after a month or so. I never stopped using that exact same soap, and I would shower normally 2-3 times a day (because I work out).
Avatar m tn Rockoff, I went to a dermatologist with 2 problems that I have - one with wrinkled, sticky skin on my penis and another is tinea versicolor that I have for 4-5 years already. Dr said it might be balanitis, gave me Vusion cream which I applied for a week. But things didn't improve noticeably, in fact I got irritation on the foreskin in the form of small abrasions that are sensitive to touch so Dr recommended to apply something bland like Aquaphor.
Avatar f tn My article Tinea Versicolor reviews the treatments that work well for this condition. And no, tinea versicolor therapy does not cause fading of the tattoo.
Avatar n tn Hi, The white spots in skin can be caused by a yeast called tinea versicolor, vitiligo, other systemic illness. The tinea versicolor yeasts are always around us, and usually cause no problems. Some of us are more susceptible to the things that can convert tinea versicolor yeast into forms that cause the rash: heat, oily skin, birth control pills, humidity, pregnancy and corticosteroids. Tinea versicolor yeasts are not contagious.
Avatar m tn No you did not get tinea versicolor after 3 weeks.
Avatar n tn Ive done some research on what it is, and there is no link between Psoriasis(which is what dovonex is used for) and Pytriaisis Versicolor or even Tinea Versicolor, or any other fungal infections for that matter. I know this disease takes time to go away, but i dont want to be using the wrong medicine and still have no results by summer....
Avatar m tn Hello, Since these dark patches are not itchy, so an important possibility is of tinea versicolor. It is a common skin infection caused by the yeast Malassezia furfur. This skin disease commonly affects adolescents and young adults, especially in warm and humid climates. Treatment involves topical and oral antifungal medicines.

Avatar n tn Hello, Without examination, confirmation of a diagnosis is tough but it can be tinea versicolor. Tinea versicolor is caused by a fungus that lives in the skin of almost all adults. Factors that can cause the fungus to become more visible include high humidity and immune or hormone abnormalities.Treatment involves topical and oral antifungal medicines.
Avatar m tn Applying anti-dandruff shampoo to the affected area and allowing it to sit for 10 minutes before rinsing also can treat tinea versicolor. This treatment would need to be applied for several days, up to two weeks, before resolution occurs. I would recommend a dermatologist’s consultation for this. It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided.

Avatar n tn to cover the spots. Is there any chance this is tinea versicolor? I think I have finally found the answer, obviously without the help of the doctors. I have been self-treating with anti-fungal creams and Selsun Blue for 3 weeks now. So far, I have seen no changes. Could this really be irreversible sun damage? Or is tinea versicolor so rare, my doctor's hadn't even heard of it? This discussion is related to <a href='http://www.medhelp.
