Avatar f tn ketoconazole, fluconazole, itraconazole, terbinafine ( I have tried these 4 drugs in oral and topical form) I have also tried selsun shampoo and all of these have failed. I was wondering if there was anymore hope for me? Is there anymore antifungal pill I can take? Due to my rash not responding well to 3 azole antifungals does this mean it won't respond to any of the other azole antifungals? And are there anyother antifungal that are effective that arnt azole? P.
Avatar f tn I’m a 20 year old female, and I have been dealing with tinea versicolor for going on 7 months. I’ve tried the shampoos and my doctor has prescribed me multiple rounds of fluconazole (spaced out between rounds) the rash went away after awhile, but I was not using the shampoo (I was using a natural soap on Amazon for tinea versicolor). Sadly, the rash came back after a month or so. I never stopped using that exact same soap, and I would shower normally 2-3 times a day (because I work out).
Avatar n tn However Terbinafine solution (Lamisil) is quite effective in treatment of tinea versicolor. Please discuss this with your doctor and you can get prescribed oral treatment like itraconazole, ketoconazole or fluconazole. I hope it helps. Take care and please do keep us posted in case you have any additional doubts. Kind regards.
Avatar n tn External application of ketoconazole is fine assuming it it tinea versicolor, but to use internally is not advisable with out a prescription.
Avatar f tn I have tinea versicolor on my back, chest, and upper arms, and would like to know if tattoos would be able to cover the pale spots successfully without the tattoos getting altered by the spots reappearing later on. Is it safe getting a tattoo over the skin infected with tinea versicolor? My goal is to treat the tinea versicolor, get tattoos and continue with preventative maintenance using ZNP bars for soap, buffing, and applying selinum sulfide to prevent reaccurances.
Avatar n tn Hello, Without examination, confirmation of a diagnosis is tough but it can be tinea versicolor. Tinea versicolor is caused by a fungus that lives in the skin of almost all adults. Factors that can cause the fungus to become more visible include high humidity and immune or hormone abnormalities.Treatment involves topical and oral antifungal medicines.
Avatar f tn Another reason - affects construction workers or people who work outside in hot climates - is tinea versicolor (or pityriasis versicolor) where people sweat on their skin and develop a fungal infection. Sunlight does not pass through the fungus so intermittent parts of their skin are tanned while others are lighter colored. There is no known treatment for Vitiligo. Usually it's the psychological aspect of the condition that causes the most problem.
Avatar n tn i got more tan than usual this summer and began to notice little white spots on my chest, shoulders, and arms. a doctor told me it was tinea versicolor and gave me a cream (which i didnt use).by the time it was november, the spots on my chest faded as i lost my tan but were still on my arms and shoulders.i went to my dermatologist a month ago and said the spots on my arms and shoulders were scars from picking zits or bug bites.
Avatar m tn Rockoff, I went to a dermatologist with 2 problems that I have - one with wrinkled, sticky skin on my penis and another is tinea versicolor that I have for 4-5 years already. Dr said it might be balanitis, gave me Vusion cream which I applied for a week. But things didn't improve noticeably, in fact I got irritation on the foreskin in the form of small abrasions that are sensitive to touch so Dr recommended to apply something bland like Aquaphor.

Avatar m tn Thanx I too thought it may be tinea versicolor as well, i did a lil research and it seem to fit what I thought it may be, sometimes in tight tee shirts it is a lil itchy, does that mean it could be something else other than tinea? & I wrote down a few of the over the counter products to go look for. I'll definitely keep you posted.
Avatar n tn However, the white patches of pityriasis alba are multiple and appear to be more confluent. In your case, the more common tinea versicolor may be the underlying cause. I suggest you seek consult with your primary physician so that the right medications be prescribed. Avoid sharing towels and soaps since tinea versicolor as a fungal infection may easily be spread.
Avatar n tn I have had a rash for several years on my face (across nose and cheeks) as well as on my chest (neckline). A doctor told me that it was tinea versicolor. In looking at the images on the net of tinea, I do have spots of it but it is not what the rash on my chest and face is. The rest of the rash is not circular and does not respond to any of the creams or medications given to me. This rash is just a general redness.

Avatar m tn Hello, It can be due to lentigo skin or tinea versicolor. Lentigo are flat brown lesions which do not darken following sun exposure. It is a small, sharply circumscribed, pigmented macule surrounded by normal-appearing skin. Tinea versicolor is a fungal infection of the skin caused by the yeast Pityrosporum ovale. This yeast occurs naturally on everyone's skin. When the yeast starts to multiply rapidly, it can form small colonies on the skin's surface.
551145 tn?1240945685 White spots on the skin may suggest differentials such as pityriasis alba, tinea versicolor and vitiligo. Based on your description, vitiligo is not likely as this usually presents with a stark white patch of skin with well demarcated borders. In your case, pityriasis alba and a fungal infection may be differentials. Pityriasis usually affects the face or the arms in children. Tinea versicolor may show light white discolorations on the skin with light central scaling.
Avatar f tn I have a pretty severe case of Tinea Versicolor, completely covers my chest and stomach, back, arms and starts down my legs. Nothing my dermatologist prescribes helps. Avatar m tn The white spots in skin can be caused by a yeast called tinea versicolor, vitiligo, other systemic illness. The tinea versicolor yeasts are always around us, and usually cause no problems. Some of us are more susceptible to the things that can convert tinea versicolor yeast into forms that cause the rash: heat, oily skin, birth control pills, humidity, pregnancy and corticosteroids. Tinea versicolor yeasts are not contagious.
