Avatar m tn FWIW - my Dr said 1) stop taking flomax. I don't think he thinks highly of it 2) Don't take saw palmetto 3) that I'm a good candidate for a TURP. I'm doing a ct scan tomorrow, and next week we schedule the surgery. Yeah - the end is in sight!
Avatar n tn Are you taking Flomax for prostate issues? Flomax works by relaxing the muscles in the bladder and prostate, which leads to improved flow of urine and fewer symptoms of BPH. It indeed can have side effects like you describe. https://www.healthline.com/health/enlarged-prostate/flomax-side-effects#side-effects It's a relatively low percentage of patients, less than 4% that have these types of side effects but none the less, that could be going on for you.

Avatar f tn I have PCOS and am ttc. In my research I've come across Saw Palmetto and its possible benefits for women with PCOS. Has anyone used it with good results? Has it helped to manage symptoms of PCOS? Or with conception?
Avatar m tn Also taking saw palmetto and bee pollen, and all that other herbal junk that I never believed in anyway but I am desperate to get past this. Maybe this information can help you, as you can imagine I am very frustrated with no relief in sight.
Avatar n tn It is not proven that Saw palmetto causes a reduction of a libido, nor erectile function. In fact saw Palmetto is used also as a light aphrodisiac; Saw palmetto reduces the DHT in the blood in a different way than Finasteride which could cause reduced libido.
Avatar m tn I take organic pumpkin seed oil, saw palmetto, pygeum and stinging nettle root to help stop the conversion of testoserone to DHT. and slowly shrink the prostate. I would advise looking into that immediately so it doesn't continue to get enlarged at he very least.. Eat a lot of healthy fats (omegas) that the prostate like s too.. I ordered this "Thermobalancing" belt recently that is supposed to shrink the prostate in about 6 months...
Avatar f tn saw palmetto was tried in the late 90's for benign prostate enlargement, and the results were rather mixed. Then Proscar came along and pretty much ended that debate. Saw Palmetto has faded into the background - it's possible you affected your DHT levels, but it will definitely only be temporary. I quit Proscar for that reason, best not to fool around with sex hormone levels, in my opinion.
Avatar n tn Another cause of irritation is constipation and hard stools, which press against the bladder and prostate. Take a stool softener and drink more water if you have hard stools. Take saw palmetto if told to do so by a doctor; this helps with minor prostate enlargement (BPH), but does not treat infections or anything else. If a doctor finds that you have severe BPH, he/she may give you a prescription drug like Flomax.
Avatar f tn Hi there, i'm 19 years old and I took saw palmetto for about 5 days because it is known to increase sex drive and help with erectile function. After 5 days of use, it lowered sex drive and made my erectile dysfunction way worse. I just need to know if this is at all permanent. Has anyone else had experiences with this? I only took it for 5 days so im not as worried but I just dont know at this point. Any help is really appreciated.
Avatar n tn Within the last 4 months I have noticed that when ejaculating during sex, my ejaculation is not as strong and barely comes out. I had no problems before this period with a strong ejaculation. There also seems to be less volume of fluid.( I am a 40 year old male and had a vasectomy 2 years ago.) Is this a sign of a prostate problem?
Avatar f tn I suspect that saw Palmetto May be adversely affecting taladafil in my question for sex. I've got BPH & ED.
Avatar n tn I would like to start taking 'saw palmetto' to help me ease my prostate problems but I am already taking warfarin & I understand it may clash. Just wondered, is it simply just not advisable to take saw palmetto whilst on warfarin because it is dangerous, or could I take it as long as I have my INR regularly checked?
Avatar f tn However his doctor has not made any direct statements on yes or no to continueing taking Maitake Mushroom, Shiitake Mushroom and Saw Palmetto. Does anyone also take these supliments and have any of your doctors stated if it is alright while on treatment or stop?
Avatar m tn The plant steroids in saw palmetto act on progesterone receptors, that causes a reduction in estrogen levels. According to the results of a large international trial published in the "Journal of Clinical Oncology" in April 2011, estrogen and progesterone receptor status is a predictive marker of early breast cancer and post-treatment relapse. As you get older your hormone levels decrease, and your fat cells in your body increases.
Avatar m tn The Flomax was not working very well, initially and my MD switched me to Jalyn, mostly because of the CombaT Study which looked at combination regimens for BPH. The Jalyn (Flomax & Avodart) does a GREAT job and I am pretty much symptom free. My thought was that switching to Avodart alone would leave me with one less drug going into my system, keep my good results, and, hopefully reduce the IFIS risk.
Avatar m tn stop taking saw palmetto! search for saw palmetto side effects or the web site " prostate.emedtv.com/saw-palmetto/saw-palmetto-side-effects.
Avatar m tn I heard about a herbal Sabal Serrulata (Saw Palmetto).Does nay one about it ? Should I use it ?Is there anything else than I can use or just wait & see how I will perform when the time comes . Thanks for any input .
Avatar f tn I trialled some Saw Palmetto (no particular reason) for a few months last year until I started to notice alternate retrograde ejaculation, usually worse if I’m tired or after a period of abstinence. This is still occuring despite stopping the palmetto.
Avatar m tn s only if I stop taking the vitamin Saw Palmetto daily, which I have not been doing in the past week or so mainly from being too lazy to restock on the vitamins. When I do take the Saw Palmetto however, I typically find myself going to the bathroom only about once or not at all each night. So I was wondering if I should hold off on the Saw Palmetto during the week of withdrawal, only because urination is vital to detox and I figure the more trips to the bathroom the better?
Avatar m tn Hi, Thanks for writing in. Prostatitis is usually not a side effect of use of flomax, indeed it can happen due to BPH, for which flomax is used as treatment. It would be better to get prostrate examination done by a urologist and take opinion for surgery for resolving these symptoms. Choice of antibiotics depends upon the kind of organism affecting the prostrate. Best.
Avatar n tn It's possibly age related, but I'd also google Saw Palmetto to see if there is any indication that it affects erections. If no hint there, talk to your doctor.
Avatar n tn I assume that your urine was not infected and that you were not taking any antibiotics. PSA results from different labs cannot be compared except in gross sense. There are definite differences. That being said, 4.24 is vastly different than 2.88 and has me concerned. Certainly PSA's can differ between days, also, but again this is quite a difference. I think that you should have your PSA repeated through your urologist in another 2 months and discuss the numbers with him/her.
Avatar n tn The blood may be coming from your prostate gland. See a urologist to rule out cancer. If you don't have cancer then saw palmetto pills can help this problem.
Avatar m tn Accutane is 5 alpha reductase inhibitor like finasteride and saw palmetto. These meds including Saw Palmetto are evil drugs. They have destroyed lives of million of people. But a lot of people don't know about these side effects because doctors deny them and the cases are not reported to main media.
