I have what they call Neurogenic bladder. Probably very close to your description. Sometimes I have to concentrate to enpty my bladder, but if I can't go, I can self-cath. If it is done under the hygenic conditions, infections can be avoided.
This is something you need to discuss with your doctor, so he can see if you need some medication. There are things out there for people like us that can help.

Often just keeping your bladder drained and possibly giving you a drug of the alpha-blocker group (Uroxatrol, Flomax, Hytrin, Cardura) will enable you to urinate at least as well as before. Once in a while I come across a patient who cannot urinate on his own without surgery, but most do not require it.

Flomax can reduce the amouht of seman that you produce. It would be unusual though to have this production reduced down to zero unless the man was ejaculating very often. In general terms Flomax is a useful medication with very few side-effects..

We are just guessing that the way Flomax works by relaxing muscles is causing these effects. (Could the enlarged prostate end up pressing even more on muscles?? I realize these are just guesses: I have looked at a lot of medical sites, but this does not look like to be listed as a side effect!

Thanks for writing in. Prostatitis is usually not a side effect of use of flomax, indeed it can happen due to BPH, for which flomax is used as treatment. It would be better to get prostrate examination done by a urologist and take opinion for surgery for resolving these symptoms.
Choice of antibiotics depends upon the kind of organism affecting the prostrate.

He takes 5 mg blood pressure med and he takes Flomax daily. When he first started taking Flomax; which he needs to be able to urinate or as he says to keep his plumbing working, anyway, he would have dizzy spells.
