Thanks for writing in. Prostatitis is usually not a side effect of use of flomax, indeed it can happen due to BPH, for which flomax is used as treatment. It would be better to get prostrate examination done by a urologist and take opinion for surgery for resolving these symptoms.
Choice of antibiotics depends upon the kind of organism affecting the prostrate.

Are you taking Flomax for prostate issues? Flomax works by relaxing the muscles in the bladder and prostate, which leads to improved flow of urine and fewer symptoms of BPH. pain just before and during urination, sometimes persistent minor pain in the penis, dull pain at the front above the penis, slower than ever start to flow, more slow dribbling at the end, and reduced volume, so even more incomplete bladder emptying, and so of course more frequent urination, though not nocturia.
He has never had urinary infections in the past, and has not changed his lifestyle/eating/drinking habits lately.
In Sept of 08 I recieved unprotected oral sex from a female in October I was having trerrible pain in my lower back and below my scrotum and left side of my penis. I went to the ER and they tested for Chlymidia and Gonorhea only, I test negative for both. After seeing my regular doctor he diagnosied me with prostatitus and I went on 5 weeks of Levaquin 500. The pain subsided but I noticed my urine flow was bad and I dripped a bit after I pee'd, I couldnt clear my bladder.
Most likely neither one is possible for me. If the drugs help with urination, I would remain on them and gladly take the side effects of sexual dysfunction.
Currently I will have to decide whether I will remain with the suprapubic catheter or will have a surgery to alter the flow of urine. This would mean closing the urethra to the penis and having a dry stoma created on the abdominal wall that I can self cath again.
Needless to say, I found this to be disconcerting, and discovered (through onling research) that a decrease in semen production was a common side effect of Flomax. But, I kept on using this combination hoping things would improve with the semen. Needless to say, after approximately 3 weeks, I had the same experience, but this time followed by pain in my lower abdomen (during the end of orgasm sensations).
Whatever you do, just be careful of the levaquin...the side effects can be very dangerous. From what ive heard, the fda has some sort of black label warning on this drug, the most severe warning a drug can have...next is to pull it off the shelf. I was on Levaquin for 5 days and have experienced much of the same side effects of others.
But the insomnia was miserable so I called my doctor to ask if there was anything I could do for the side effects, so he switched me to 3 wks of doxycycline, which I started taking immediately. Now I sleep OK but after two days the symptoms are back in full force. I'm wondering if I made a mistake in switching. Have others had similar experiences? Is doxy just slower to take effect?
Dizziness, unusual weakness, drowsiness, trouble sleeping, or runny nose, fainting, vision changes, sexual problems (difficulty ejaculating, decreased interest in sex), fast heartbeat etc are the usual side effects of flomax. But they can rarely develop after such a prolonged use.
Consult a urologist for further help.

I am 35 and For the past six months or so I have experienced pain in the tip of my penis that will last for a few days to a week, then go away for a few weeks and then come back again. It's constant irritating pain but doesn't hurt when I pee. There's no discharge or really any other symptoms. I have seen my GP and a urologist and none are sure what's going on. I've been tested for STDs and everything has come back negative. They also decided it wasn't a kidney stone.
a sudden onset of an episode of excruciating pain on right side of abdomen, accompanied by nausea and vomiting and bloody (pink) urine. Percodan + Zofran help.
March 8: The severe pain disappears and has never come back. (thought I passed the kidney stone.) Internist finds blood in my urine (not visible to the naked eye).
March 10: An episode of painless gross hematuria.
march 11: CAT Scan reveals “ 3 mm.
My doctor gave me Flomax,but I had bad side effects from it and he stopped it. He never did answer me when I asked him if there was another medication I could take without the bad side-effects. Do you know of another med I could take that wouldn't cause the bad side effects ? And would my prostate cause the pain in my back and lower intestines ? Its like a burning pain.
I am a 25 year old male. My symptoms are as follows:
(1) Cloudy urine;
(2) Frequent feeling of urgency;
(3) Occasional burning on urination and ejaculation;
(4) Weak urine flow.
I am very frustrated, as I have seen two urologists (one for about a year) and neither have made any significant headway. First they hypothesized that I had a prostate infection and put me on all kinds of antibiotics -- to no avail.
Stopping the Flomax at this stage really doesn't help. The effects on the iris are basically permanant by now. I would concentrate on finding the best cataract surgeon on your plan and make sure he or she has done dozens and dozens of Flomax cases and is very comortable with the management. Dr. David Chang in Los Altos, CA has written extensively on the best techniques to manage such cases.
I had no idea why I was feeling like I have a cold, very stuffy nose, headache, blurred vision, abdominal pain, lower back pain and lastly a bloody nose that started me looking at the side effects of this medicine... It causes all the symptoms I just listed. Why would anyone prescribe this medicine unless they are receiving payment from the drug company manufacturing it! It is unhealthy and can also create cataracts. DO NOT TAKE TAMSULOSIN FOR ANY REASON.
That is a side effect of the flomax... what is happening is that the semen is being released into your bladder. The flomax is designed to relax the urinary sphincter muscle so the semen, when you ejaculate, takes the path of least resistance- which is into your bladder... it's a weird concept but that is what is happening.
My urologist prescribed Ditropan, which I took for about a year, which helped at first. Flomax was added the following year, which again worked for awhile, but the symptoms returned after 6 months or so. The Flomax caused retrograde ejaculation, which bothered me because in the past, I had always shot a fairly substantial load when I ***.
