Flomax side effects men

Common Questions and Answers about Flomax side effects men

Avatar f tn Needless to say, I found this to be disconcerting, and discovered (through onling research) that a decrease in semen production was a common side effect of Flomax. But, I kept on using this combination hoping things would improve with the semen. Needless to say, after approximately 3 weeks, I had the same experience, but this time followed by pain in my lower abdomen (during the end of orgasm sensations).
284078 tn?1282620298 A new landmark study has shown that men taking Flomax (tamsulosin) have twice the risk of serious complications after cataract surgery. The study out of Canada collected data on over 96,000 men who had cataract surgery. The higher risk of complications was found in the men taking Flomax within14 days of the surgery, but not in men taking other medications for BPH (benign prostatic hyperplasia.

Avatar m tn Dizziness, unusual weakness, drowsiness, trouble sleeping, or runny nose, fainting, vision changes, sexual problems (difficulty ejaculating, decreased interest in sex), fast heartbeat etc are the usual side effects of flomax. But they can rarely develop after such a prolonged use. Consult a urologist for further help. Best.
Avatar m tn Most likely neither one is possible for me. If the drugs help with urination, I would remain on them and gladly take the side effects of sexual dysfunction. Currently I will have to decide whether I will remain with the suprapubic catheter or will have a surgery to alter the flow of urine. This would mean closing the urethra to the penis and having a dry stoma created on the abdominal wall that I can self cath again.
186606 tn?1263513790 What is the most important information I should know about Flomax? Flomax can cause side effects that may impair your thinking or reactions. Be careful if you drive or do anything that requires you to be awake and alert. You may feel dizzy when getting up from a sitting or lying position. Avoid standing up too quickly to keep from falling. Avoid drinking alcohol. It may increase dizziness caused by Flomax. Before taking this medication, tell your doctor if you are allergic to sulfa drugs.
Avatar n tn Uroxatral is a similar drug that may be as effective as regards voiding but has a much lower incidence of this untoward effect. Also, check out the untoward effects (side effects) of each of his medications, in particular his blood pressure meds, and see if one of these needs to be changed. Good luck! S.A. Liroff, M.D.
Avatar n tn Acetaminophen is an analgesic and anti inflammatory drug, where as diphenhydramine is a sedative. Tylenol pm is a drug with very few side effects and is non- habit forming drug. Nocturia is not a result of the use of this drug. Visit a urologist and discuss about the treatment options available. All the best.
Avatar m tn ALL NEGATIVE RESULTS I have taken, Tobramycin, Cipro, Bacclofen, Levaquin, Doxycycline, Flomax, Uroxatrol and Terazosin(this really helps with the weak urine stream) and take lots of Advil. Avatar m tn I saw a Urologist and he gave me flomax, but I had to stop it because I was have bad side effects from it. The flomax was before the drippy ejaculation problem started.
5856747 tn?1403352282 It is effective but does carry quite a few side-effects that you need to be aware of. Among these are retrograde ejaculation, incontinence and erectile dysfunction. Finally, it remains my conviction that you are better off treating BPH medically and at a very early stage of this disease’s development. That way you have the best chance of postponing surgery perhaps indefinitely.
Avatar m tn ◦ Surgery on certain parts of the bladder ◦ Extensive pelvic surgery, especially to treat cancer of the prostate, testicles, colon or rectum ◦ Staging surgery for cancer in the pelvis or lower abdomen (this surgery removes lymph nodes in the pelvis and lower abdomen to help determine how far cancer has spread) ◦ Certain types of surgery on the discs and vertebrae of the lower spine • Nerve damage caused by medical illness — This is especially common in men with multiple sclerosis or w
Avatar m tn Have been given Flomax, but afraid to use because I already have low blood pressure and am a woman. It's not approved by the FDA for use in women. Did you have side side effects from the Flomax? And how was the stent? That scares me. Thanks!
Avatar n tn Since that time other medications were required, like Cymbalta, Flomax, and a Statin among others. Almost every med has the same side effect of either gaining or losing weight. In my case, like so many others here was gaining. In order to meet my personnel challenge of maintaining 40mg, I need to switch to either the Duragesic patch or Oxicontin. Although they are part of the narcotic family, I have bad side effects with Oxicontin and more so with the patch.
Avatar n tn Erythomycin is the more commonly stated drug of choice, but it is less effective and has a higher profile of side effects. ************************* Do I think that's what you have? Not necessarily. But you could. Is it worth it for you to get tested? That's up to you. Most doctors don't even know about these tests, so it will be hard to find someone who will listen to you.
Avatar m tn My urologist prescribed Ditropan, which I took for about a year, which helped at first. Flomax was added the following year, which again worked for awhile, but the symptoms returned after 6 months or so. The Flomax caused retrograde ejaculation, which bothered me because in the past, I had always shot a fairly substantial load when I ***.
Avatar n tn In any event , SP should not take the place of yearly prostate cancer screening ( digital rectal exam and prostate specific antigen blood test PSA) for all men 50 to 75. Men at a higher risk, family history or African American, should start prostate screening at age forty. More individualized care is available at the Henry Ford Hospital and its urban campuses by calling (1 800 653 6568). We can also arrange local accommodations through this number if this is your need.
Avatar n tn Prior to the surgery the urologist explained all the side effects including retrograde ejeculation. I had problems not being able to urinate and it was found to be some obstruction at the bladderneck. The procedure went OK and after 8 weeks or so I returned to work as a heavy duty mechanic shop foreman. The procedure only did well for about 6 months when I ended up with the same problems. I was booked for a urodynamics test and it was found that I had a neurogenic bladder.
Avatar n tn I'm only 26 I had some trouble and come to find out my prostate was 5x the size it should have been. Dr gave me some pills called Flomax to help then some blood work on my PSA levels. Is it hard to pee sometimes? like to get started? if so yea I would get it checked out.
Avatar n tn ============================================= Dear Miriam, One of the potential side effects of a prostate biopsy is the inability to urinate afterwards. This is referred to as urinary retention. It is not very common after prostate biopsy, but it does happen from time to time. As men age they tend to become prone to urinary retention due to an enlarged prostate and a less effective bladder, among others.
Avatar f tn I continued to have the severe pain that you describe due to the kidney spasms. It causes the same stabbing pain in your side and back, but up higher around the kidney. You have to be carefull with Toradol. It is not meant to be taken everyday. Hope this helps.
Avatar n tn I can urinate pretty freely, and the whole area down there seems relaxed. Sweet relief! On the negative side, I'm experiencing a common side effect - masturbated the other day, and no semen came out! Freaked out until I read that Flomax can cause ejaculatory failure and/or retrograde ejaculation. Bizarre stuff, let me tell ya. But, I'll take shooting blanks over the pain and discomfort any day! Morgannon P.S. Enigmaman, have you tried direct heat yet?
Avatar m tn You doctor must surely rule out it is not causing the pain. Pain from one side shifting to the other side is a typical symptom of CPSS and Myofascial pain. The pain will be unilateral in constant, however suddenly on a day it will shift from one side to the other side. During this time, the pain in the original side will be absent or reduce for many of them, however it will come back to its original side after few days. Have you read this book "A headache in pelvis"?
Avatar n tn A doctor at a hospital in Bangkok without ever informing my father what the possible side effects of Zometa (bone pain relieving medication) could be administered it to my father. He was 74 years old. My father suffered renal failure, had to undergo dialysis and then had a ureteral stent inserted. He already underwent a replacement of the first stent. However, he has been passing a lot of blood in his urine. He will be going for blood transfusion due to him becoming anemic.
1415321 tn?1306973553 Anyone out there being recommended a Lupron injection please read up on the side-effects, I trusted my doctor and was only told of 4 minor ones and just wanted relief from pain so took it. The surgeon said the timing of the pain ending most likely landed around the time the injection was given.
Avatar m tn -Reduced energy, depression; again, possibly side-effects. -Colder penis temperature and lighter glans color, also when in the firm+flaccid state. When erect, or after taking a warm bath, the reddish/purple color returns to the glans. -Hemorrhoids, which may or may not have been present when the penile symptoms started. -Back pain in the lower-left thoracic region. -More flatulence than usual. -Pain in the perineum - possibly related to hemorrhoids.
Avatar m tn I believe is important for you to do some research about your own health condition, on the drugs you are taking (drugs come with some of the side effects written on the papers that come inside the box). Also is important for you to know that there is something called holistic medicine, which uses healthier drugs and a healthier medicine. I have the same problem, but I masturbated from 20-50 or more times a day on my puberty and now on my 37 age from 2-10 times a day.
Avatar m tn There are strong non-narcotic pain meds that do work, but for side effects reasons, they are reluctant to hand out. The one that comes to mind is Toradol. It is supposed to be as potent as morphine, though I don't think its quite that strong, it does take the edge off enough, to pass a stone sometimes. Doctors are becoming more and more reluctant to hand it out, due to GI problems as well as some kidney problems.
Avatar f tn Yesterday I had the pre-op checkup to get cleared for the upcoming cataract eye surgery, scheduled for Oct 24. All was normal intially except my BP is always very high only at the doctor's office - an hour before at home it was below normal as it usually is measured daily at home. However at the end an EKG was done and it detected "right bundle branch block" but without any other symptoms, so that was considered benign - just something to monitor at annual physical exams.
Avatar n tn I'll go see a doctor to rule out the bad stuff, also since in my case I was having some very light headaches on and off on my left side, so putting 1+1 together that's something that makes your mind run crazy with bad diseases.
