Common Questions and Answers about Flomax and back pain

flomax

Avatar m tn I have SEVERE lower back pain(Continually) my doctor gave me Cipro (Antibiotic) thinking perhaps I had an infection, I've finally taken all the antibiotic, however the lower back pain still present. Are there other proven symptoms I may have that I am not aware of, doesn't hurt when I urinate, however I don't always empty my bladder, I take Flomax(without Flomax I probably wouldn't even be able to go to the bathroom. Anyone experience this. Thank You.
Avatar m tn Saw my primary MD today. He said that the Flomax relaxes muscles in the bladder and prostate, and the Avodart shrinks the prostate. He said that after a year or so, if the prostate has gone down and reduced the problems, they like to eliminate the Flomax, as it is no longer necessary. Long story short, I now have a prescription for Avodart alone. I realize that it may not reduce the surgery risk, but one less drug is a good thing.
1580703 tn?1651904887 I was given cipro and Flomax for pelvic pain and a UTI. the pain was through the whole pelvis and also individual veins or spermatic cord. does Flomax permanently shrink your prostate or reduce testosterone levels? I read one forum where people where saying they had a permanent loss of strength, could not throw the discus as far?
Avatar m tn In Sept of 08 I recieved unprotected oral sex from a female in October I was having trerrible pain in my lower back and below my scrotum and left side of my penis. I went to the ER and they tested for Chlymidia and Gonorhea only, I test negative for both. After seeing my regular doctor he diagnosied me with prostatitus and I went on 5 weeks of Levaquin 500. The pain subsided but I noticed my urine flow was bad and I dripped a bit after I pee'd, I couldnt clear my bladder.
Avatar n tn Are you taking Flomax for prostate issues? Flomax works by relaxing the muscles in the bladder and prostate, which leads to improved flow of urine and fewer symptoms of BPH. It indeed can have side effects like you describe. https://www.healthline.com/health/enlarged-prostate/flomax-side-effects#side-effects It's a relatively low percentage of patients, less than 4% that have these types of side effects but none the less, that could be going on for you.
Avatar m tn Thanks for the quick reply Dr Veena. Another question for you: should I take Flomax BEFORE taking Cipro? I've heard taking Flomax and hour or 2 before will soften the prostate and allow the antibiotic to better penetrate the prostate? Does it matter if I take them in the morning or evening, or is the rule just be consistent? Thanks again.
Avatar m tn Perhaps the community can help with this one. 35M with history of off and on non bacterial prostatitis episodes going back to 18 or 19 years old. Sometimes it would be treated with antibiotics other times Flomax. Either way they all resolved easily after a week or so. fast forward to a month ago I had an external hemorrhoid develop and also had urgency and frequency. Doc said it was related to the hemorrhoid and gave me a cream. the issue resolved within a couple days.
Avatar n tn I've taken flomax for several years, and want to undergo cataract surgery. What should I expect? This discussion is related to Cataract surgery and Flomax.
Avatar m tn I'm 68 years old and have had Cataracts for over 2 years. I've been taking Avodart for over a year. Should I stop taking Avodart and wait awhile before cataract surgery or will the informed Dr be able to work with my eyes? I've never taken Flomax and have heard the warnings from the commercial and read about Flomax. I'm concerned about any complications. I'm also pretty active. Can I still swim after surgery and what are the chances of the lens shifting or coming loose?
Avatar m tn I started Lyrica (50 mg 3x daily) this week to try and alleviate the pain - that can take a week or more to work (if it helps). I am also planning to try accupuncture next week to see if that helps. Additionally I had an interstim nerve stiumlator implanted in April 09 for retention, which has enable me to pee again (I had a period in Sep where I could not but the turp resolved this).
Avatar n tn re getting the info that stent removal has all this pain attached to it. Have you had a stent before and had severe pain when it was removed? I've had a stent and there was discomfort when it was removed but not the severe pain you are indicating. There may be a burning sensation for a day or two afterwards when urinating, and even then the amount of that burning sensation differs from person to person and male to female.
Avatar m tn I have taken Flomax for a week, and am very weary of the side effects. It effects my vision - I can feel it in my eyes. It dulls my brain, I can feel it in my head. It caused the ringing in my ears to get worse. I've had minor chest pain for a few days. All of these are on the list of side effects.
Avatar f tn Prior that, I had 2 very painful attacks (flack pain) and nothing more. No nausea, infection, blood in the urine, etc. Just when I thought I may be getting over this thing, over the past 2 days I've been suffering from this urge to urinate and like you said, it's miserable! I am able to urinate but the problem is that even when I do, the urge remains and I find myself in the bathroom just straining to go.
Avatar n tn On Saturday I went to the emergency room for treatment of my 1st Kidney stone, it is now Tuesday and it has not yet passed. This is not an issue, yet.. The issue I have is that while I had an orgasm on Tuesday, I did not ejaculate any sperm. What could be the problem?

I finished the levaquin and went back to PCP she examined again and said prostate still inflamed and sent me to a Uro. Visit with URO was routine, said that he had no doubt that I had prostatitis and that the penis tip burning was a sure sign, he did exam said inflamed. Put me on flomax, no acidic foods or drinks for 30 days. I followed 30 days with little improvement.
Avatar m tn The severe pain disappears and has never come back. (thought I passed the kidney stone.) Internist finds blood in my urine (not visible to the naked eye). Avatar n tn I have been experiencing retrograde ejaculation from taking Flomax and Uroxatral for several years. Will normal ejaculation return if I stop the medication? How long will it take?
Avatar n tn Hi, I am so desperate for help, my life has been absolutely horrible for almost a year now. In June/July 2007 I started having testicle pain as well as penis pain and burning and increased urinary frequency with burning. My doctor diagnosed prostatitis and gave me antibiotics. About a week into taking the antibiotics I felt a tearing and gurgle feeling right at the sight/scar area of a previous(about3-4 yrs ago) hernia surgery.
Avatar n tn I went to ER 10 days ago with what I thought must be my appendix exploding! 10+ pain in right lower flank area. They managed the immediate pain w/ IV which worked very quickly. After a CT scan they determined I have a 3mm stone making it's way from my right kidney to my bladder. They sent me home with a script for Norco and Flomax and told me to get a follow up appt. with my Dr., drink plenty of fluids, and strain my urine. It was a week before my Dr.
Avatar n tn The urologist told me that the flomax causes retrograde ejaculation, but this was in the morning after my flomax has usually worn off (this was at a time of day when I have masturbated and ejaculated before, but no more than a little dribble oozed out. Usually when the flomax is in effect, absolutely nothing comes out).
