Common Questions and Answers about Flomax and retrograde ejaculation

flomax

Avatar m tn I did not associate it with flomax until recently. Is it harmful if I stop taking the flomax and is this the cause of my retro? This discussion is related to Retrograde Ejaculation from Flomax......permanent or not?.
Avatar n tn I have been experiencing retrograde ejaculation from taking Flomax and Uroxatral for several years for an enlarged prostrate. If I stop taking the medication will normal ejaculation return? If so, how long will it take?
Avatar m tn Hi I recently started having retrograde ejaculation. I am 61 pre diabetic and have an enlarged prostate. My psa has been 1.2. I have been taking flow max for the past 3 years and had noticed a decrease in the amount of sperm but I always ejaculated. Recently I have had several dry orgasms. I have also experimented while taking flow max I have also tried taking Viagra and other times Cialas. Would taking both Flowmax and Cialas or Viagra be causing the retrograde.
Avatar n tn What are the chances of *permanent* retrograde ejaculation from taking two doses of Flomax? (And, I'm sure, taking Sudafed and Urecholine at the same time?) If this seems unlikely, is my pattern of recovery unusual? Is there any specific treatment avenue I should inquire about with my urologist, given my history of urgency? Thanks Doc!
Avatar n tn Hello, Till the time you have Sildosin, retrograde ejaculation will persist. But this retrograde ejaculation is not permanent and should stop once you stop this drug. But due to retrograde ejaculation, fertility will be affected in the meantime. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care and please do keep me posted on how you are doing.
Avatar n tn I had switched to Uroxatral from Flomax because the latter caused retrograde ejaculation. Following major surgery elsewhere, I could not urinate, therefore, I was not without a Foley catheter. Two weeks after the first surgery, I had the re-sectioning. I now urinate well, but my ejaculation is retrograde. Can this condition be reversed? I hate it! Jerry F. Avatar n tn I was diagnosed with BHP and put on Tamsulosin and now I have retrograde ejaculation and I would like to know if I stop the Tamsulosin with the RE go away?
Avatar m tn Urine Report Normal Sonography normal, Prostate shape, size, kideny shape size evrthing came out normal, my urologist prescribed me Flodart (internationally known as Flomax and it contains ' tamsulosin '. My urologist also prescribed zerodol SP, oflomac, pantodoc. I mastrubated 2 hours ago and I enjoyed it but no semen came out! Only after doing a research on the internet, I see that is Retrograde Ejeculation and tamsulosin is known to cause this. I have taken 3 of them so far of 0.4 mg.
Avatar n tn I have Flomax caused retrograde ejaculation and my urologist said it was that or back to the catheter!
Avatar m tn It just relaxes the smooth muscles of the urethra to aid in smooth flow of the urine. Though flomax may lead to sexual dysfunction and retrograde ejaculation, the effects are unlikely to be permanent. Hope the information is helpful. Take care!
Avatar n tn I have been experiencing retrograde ejaculation from taking Flomax and Uroxatral for several years. Will normal ejaculation return if I stop the medication? How long will it take?
Avatar m tn OK, Taking it for three days, I've had serious heavy-headedness, pinpoint toothaches, retrograde ejaculation and massive diarrhea The last side effect was my breaking point. Relieving urination frequency is pointless if I'm still running to the toilet all day to expel my bowels (and pushing on my prostate in the same way) - I'm stopping the medication tonight and seeing my doctor tomorrow, as he mentioned none of these side effects.
Avatar m tn should I take Flomax BEFORE taking Cipro? I've heard taking Flomax and hour or 2 before will soften the prostate and allow the antibiotic to better penetrate the prostate? Does it matter if I take them in the morning or evening, or is the rule just be consistent? Thanks again.
Avatar f tn It can be caused both by neurologic abnormalities (MS, diabetes) and as a side effect of some meds and Flomax is one. So, the only part that I was not able to find any information on was the pain you are also having. That question should be put to a urologist. Given the abnormal neurology you also may have, I wonder if it is a painful spasm of some kind associated with climax. You might want to look at retrograde ejaculation in general and see if it matches what you are experiencing.
Avatar m tn Flomax was added the following year, which again worked for awhile, but the symptoms returned after 6 months or so. The Flomax caused retrograde ejaculation, which bothered me because in the past, I had always shot a fairly substantial load when I ***. However, I did discover that if I masturbated in the sauna at my gym (always alone), I sometimes could produce some *** if I leaned back and pressed my thumb against the base of my penis prior to the point of ejaculation.
Avatar n tn i have had blood clots in the ejaculation during sex and a lot bigger and more in the urine after i finished intercourse. i am a bit worried honestly. it never happend when i masterbate! wierd! only from bj's and sex! if anyone can help me please do!.
Avatar m tn Hi, Tamlusosin (flomax) has been known to cause retrograde elaculation or dry climax wherein the sperm ejaculates into the bladder instead of being ejected through the urethral opening. Since patients on treatment for BPH with Flomax have developed this condition as as side effect, it will be addressed appropriately by your urologist. It is likely that you will be asked to discontinue this medication while being transferred to another drug.
Avatar m tn Sorry you're havin to deal with this and the worst part is not knowing why. I looked this up and this is what I found. Hope it helps!
Avatar f tn Possible complications for a TURP include bladder neck contracture (a scar where the bladder meets the prostate), retrograde ejacuation (ejaculation into the bladder), and worsening of his incontinence. Surgical alternatives to TURP include laser therapy for removing prostatic tissue.
Avatar n tn Hi, How many times have you experienced this ? Was this present prior to the treatment of your kidney stones? What kind of treatment did you undergo? This may be case of dry orgasm or orgasm with no seminal discharge. The following may lead to a dry orgasm: "Retrograde ejaculation. In this condition, semen is forced back into the bladder instead of out through the penis.
Avatar m tn Dripping ejaculation could also be due to flomax side effects. However it could also be due to retrograde ejaculation. This can be a complication of diabetes. “Diagnosis is usually by way of a urinalysis performed on a urine specimen that is obtained shortly after ejaculation. In cases of retrograde ejaculation, the specimen will contain an abnormal level of sperm.” Refer: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Retrograde_ejaculation However I am not sure when your urine analysis was done.
Avatar n tn which is where the ejaculate (seminal fluid) actually ascends up into the bladder instead of continuing down the urethra and out of the body. Retrograde ejaculation does not contribute to ED and also is not a harmful condition. This is a known side effect of TURP and your ejaculate will be combined with your urine as it is eliminated. Ejaculations like before the surgery will not be possible as your anatomy has changed. Thanks!
Avatar m tn My PSAs have been normal and the biopsy was negative and I'm on Flomax to shrink the prostate. What would cause the dry orgasms and can this all be related somehow?
Avatar n tn I had TUMT 17 months ago. I self caterized for 2 weeks after the surgery. Im experiencing ED and Retrograde Ejaculation. I can say iam dissatified with the postoperative conditions. Regrets and stress is a problem.
Avatar n tn On a different note, the other day I masturbated and almost nothing came out. The urologist told me that the flomax causes retrograde ejaculation, but this was in the morning after my flomax has usually worn off (this was at a time of day when I have masturbated and ejaculated before, but no more than a little dribble oozed out. Usually when the flomax is in effect, absolutely nothing comes out).
Avatar n tn Doxazosin and terazosin both can lower the blood pressure. The newest alpha blockers , flomax, and alfuzosin, are less likely to affect the blood pressure. Unlike the alpha blockers, finasteride actually shrink the prostate gland. Unfortunately, they take many months to work and are likely to help only men with rather large glands. Nocturia- night time urination is a common symptom of enlarged prostrate. I would advise you to get checked with your urologist for the prostrate.
Avatar n tn The last one happened within hours of taking a diet pill (phentermine). I am currently on flomax and while that seems to help a little, after 4 days of not taking it, my conditions immediatley went back to the point where I really noticed a decrease in urine flow. I noticed that a post in another forum said that when he went to urinate and farted, his urine flow would stop, that also happens to me.
Avatar m tn Too frequent or too infrequent ejaculation, sexual arousal without ejaculation, withdraw at the time of ejaculation, aggressive bike or horse back riding, and excessive spicy foods, alcohol, and caffeine in the diet can predispose you to this. Sitting for long periods of time, especially in an automotive vehicle, can put undo pressure on the prostate and aggravate the condition. For the latter, it is best not to sit more than 2-3 hours at a time.
Avatar n tn 1) It is possible that retrograde ejaculation is occuring as a side effect of the Flomax. Try stopping it and see if the condition improves. 2) Again, you may want to consider the possibility of retrograde ejaculation. This occurs when the ejaculate goes into the bladder instead of through the urethra. This normally occurs due to diabetes or via surgery. 3) It is possible that it may caused by the procedure, but I would discuss this with your urologist.
Avatar n tn If you are obstructed, Flomax is a good drug to help relax the prostate and increase flow. One of the side-effects of Flomax is retrograde ejaculation which it sounds like you have experienced. Due to the extreme relaxation of the bladder neck, the semen is forced into the bladder and not antegrade out the penis which is the norm. You may notice a thick frothy substance in your urine, this is your semen.
