Flexeril and sulfa

Common Questions and Answers about Flexeril and sulfa

flexeril

Avatar f tn A sulfite reaction is different from a sulfonamide allergy (a reaction to sulfa drugs) because sulfites and sulfonamides are entirely different chemicals and have unrelated mechanisms of reaction. A person sensitive to sulfites is no more likely to be allergic to sulfonamides than any other individual and vice versa. " http://www.itmonline.org/arts/sulfa.
Avatar f tn No it sounds like you are either have a bad side effect from gabapentin or are allergic to it. I took 1200mg a day for several months and had no side effects other than being tired and memory problems. I haven't taken baclofen, so i don't know the side effect of that drug. Usually, muscle relaxers don't give you that bad of a headache. You may want to try Flexeril or another muscle relaxer.
Avatar m tn I have hashimotos By the way. I am asking because i am hanving jaw tension and pain now and want to take the flexeril but i am afraid it might trigger my hyop tyroidism.
1460652 tn?1340248730 then i was involved in a car accident and was prescribed flexeril 7 days ago. the palps started 30 mins after the first pill. i just thought it was stress from the accident and "oh great, the skips are back"...until they became debilitating, and my bp dropped to 90/50, where as it is usually 115/75.i went to the dr. AGAIN and he said to go see a cardioloist AGAIN.
Avatar m tn My big fear is epilepsy Oxy use to make me shake and bite my tongue but since i been on 200mg Lamictal it has stopped I read Flexeril may cause seizure but then I also read the opposite. Even if I am not epileptic I like to play it safe as my Doc is out, and the pharmacy worker never seems to know anything. So does Flexeril increase seizure risk or is that just for (diagnosed) epileptics? I don't want to add it to the oxy and have a attack.
Avatar f tn I been taking flexeril for years because of muscle pain due to Lupus and for the last 2 months have been being treated for severe indigestion as a side effect of the med Verapimil. I was wondering if the flexeril could relax the sphincter muscle that is involved in GERD? Please give me any ideas or info you might have regarding if the flexeril would be contraindicated due to the GERD situation? Thanks, God bless!
Avatar f tn Hi again has anyone tried Flexeril (muscle relaxant)? Any bad side effects and did it help pain , I have I guess myofascial pain. Any trouble with withdrawal gettnig off of it?
232328 tn?1207090071 I used flexeril for back pain, and to be honest it did nothing...The doctor told me it was going to make me sleepy and it did not...It is a muscle relaxent... I ws on the 10mg dose.... So then he switched me to zanaflex, and i can only take it at nite because it makes me knock out....I don't take it all the time, only when my back is hurting as i think that one can be addicting i am sure others will give you their experience on it!
Avatar f tn My back is really bothering me!! Hurts so bad and can't relax for anything!! I'm 35 weeks and really want to! Has anyone taken a muscle relaxer or even a half of one?
Avatar f tn m going again tomorrow to perhaps get off of flexeril and maybe get a monitor to take home. Has anyone had this happen to them when on Flexeril? I noticed that the skipped beats got worse with the supplements i'm on too but don't know if these should cause such an event.
Avatar f tn I've had bad lower back, tailbone, and pelvic pain. My doctor prescribed flexiril and pain meds. I take them as needed, I usually take half of a muscle relaxer though cause they make me so sleepy!
Avatar n tn If I am allergic to tetracycline, a sulfa drug, would I be allergic to diamox, another sulfa drug? This discussion is related to <a href='http://www.medhelp.org/posts/show/304392'>pseudo papilledema</a>.
Avatar m tn I was prescribed Cipro for and URI. I started to itch so my doctor told me to discontinue it because I am allergic to Sulfa drugs. I have been itching on my thighs, arms, face, hands, ears and elbows. My eyes also swell when I scratch I see bruises. What could possibly be wrong with me.. My blood work was normal.
Avatar n tn It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care and please do keep me posted on how you are doing.
1770925 tn?1365618522 What are your neurological symptoms and has a physician correctly attributed them to sulfa drugs? There is no known peripheral neuropathy with the use of cephalexim, particularly short-term use. You can also check with the pharmacist. Sulfa drugs can cause allergies and hypersensitivity reactions, one particular one is steven johnson’s where you can get reddish purple rashes all over the body. Neurological complications known are dizziness, hallucinations etc. Wishing you all the best.
Avatar f tn I would say that it potentially could be caused by the sulfa medication. Sulfa drugs have an effect on every body system. If it continues, call the doctor that prescribed to make sure he/she doesn't want to see you.
Avatar f tn The pharmacist had stated that Diamox is a level 2 derivative of Sulfa and that the chance of an allergic reaction is there but small. My big concern is that I was diagnosed with a Sulfa allergy as a child when a Sulfa Based Opthalmic Ointment was used to treat an eye infection and I broke out in hives after using the drug. My daughter used Sulfa Antibiotics to treat a UTI and over the course of a week her face swelled up.
Avatar m tn If methionine is SULFUR and I am allergic to SULFA - two different things, then why would I need to worry about having the liptropic injection? I have had 2 injections so far, with no issues but I know SULFA stays in your system quite awhile and can accumulate to the point where I would have a reaction at some point so if there are even trace amounts of SULFA (not SULFUR) in methionine then I could end up having a reaction.
Avatar n tn a little more info but the short answer is yes with a prescription and yes if it is available in the home and yes from friends. Do you take flexeril? Who suggested it? What does your child need it for? I ask this way because of the ongoing epidemic of Prescription drug abuse by children who get it at home or from friends who get it at home etc. And you did good asking but better to ask your doc. So fill us in and put your pills in a secure Secure place! Looking forward to hearing from you.
Avatar f tn 2. It is ok to take both an ACE and ARB and there have been some trials using both for blood pressure management. We just have to be very careful and watch your kidney function because both medications can affect the kidney funtion so make sure your physician checks your kidney function 1-2 weeks after being on both medications. Hope this helps.

Avatar m tn Hi, my husband is disabled with chronic severe back/leg/hip pain from multiple failed surgeries and and one of his pain management meds is Flexeril, that Clean mentioned. He too gets wicked muscle spasms and takes the Flexeril for that. It helps him. I am an opiate addict (for effect) but do get bad lower back pain at night, probably from carrying 60 pounds on my small frame during pregnancy...and I am getting older.
Avatar f tn You are right, certain medications particularly muscle relaxants and antichlinergics, interfere with the results of EMG like baclofen and flexeril or cyclobenzaprine that you are taking. It would be prudent to apprise your neurologist of all the medications you are on, so that the EMG results are appreciated in that light. Muscle biopsy can be taken up after an EMG. Consult your neurologist for his preferences and expertise. Take care.
Avatar f tn The structure is very specific, and although many other drugs may contain sulfur, oxygen, nitrogen, hydrogen and a benzene ring, they are not "sulfa" drugs unless they are arranged as the "sulfa" chain. The original sulfa drugs were antibiotics. My concern is this doctor seems to be in a rush to either do RAI or surgery. He really didn't want to do the surgery because she is getting married in almost a year to this date. I'm scared to death about the RAI.
Avatar m tn I went to see my pcp and I also got blood work done. It appears my wbc was decreased. I researched the web and found that Flexeril and Benadryl, two meds I’ve been taking since I started working nights and my back pain became unbearable can cause low wbc. I’ve stopped taking both and I am starting to feel better but not back to myself yet and it’s already been 2 weeks since I stopped. I’m guessing this meds are still in my body. I plan to repeat my lab work in a few months.
Avatar f tn I have started on new meds Flexeril at night, lymbrel 500 twice a day, and Avosoy (non-prescription). The Flexeril drys my mouth out at night. Do you think this a side effect or an allergy of one of these drugs? I think the Flexeril dried my mouth and cause chapped lips and perhaps an infection from the old chap stick? please advise. It is not Herpes cold sores as I know what that looks like. It has an ordered distribution like the hair follicles.
Avatar f tn My sister had a similar reaction to hydrochlorothiazide (HCTZ), and the doctor said it was because she was allergic to sulfa. My sister had not put her sulfa allergy on her medical history form at the cardiologist's office, because the sulfa reaction had been so long ago. When the doctor prescribed HCTZ, which evidently has sulfa in it, my sister reacted to that. There are lots and lots of other blood pressure drugs beside the three or so that you have tried.
