Avatar n tn Hi there. As far as I know, studies about flax seed and cancer are still in their infancy stage. The cancer more frequently associated with this is prostate cancer. I'm quoting this text from the american cancer society website: http://www.cancer.org/docroot/NWS/content/NWS_1_1x_Flaxseed_Ginseng_Show_Promise_for_Cancer_Patients.
Avatar f tn Also, for men concerned about prostate health, some studies have shown a possible link between the ALA fatty acids in flaxseed oil and prostate cancer. In general, omega-3 fish oils have been shown to have beneficial effects on cardiovascular health so I wonder if you have some sort of special situation that would cause your internist to recommend against it. Please contact him to find out why.
Avatar n tn Personally, having had Proton treatments, I would not consider any other type treatment due to the 90% cure rate and no side effects... My PSA is now .03 and I have -0- side effects as a result of the treatments..and was not sick one single day during the treatments.. Its like im cured and was never sick. I found out that you shouldnt just take your doctors word for treatments...Check out the options yourself and be sure you know the side effects of all of the treatments..

Avatar n tn The scientific journal “Deutsche Medizinische Wochenschrift” published a study in 2012 that determined that cancer diets, such as the Budwig, diet do not cure cancer and can have adverse health effects. However, both cottage cheese and flaxseed oil can be implemented into a balanced diet in healthy or sick individuals because of the nutrient-rich content in the foods.
Avatar n tn Are there any known side effects for Shen Calmer and Liver Happy Capsules? My dog has been taking them for about a week now. He is taking them for anxiety, no signs of relief yet, but no prescriptions have helped him so this is our last resort. The second day he vomited and the vet said she hadn't ever seen that so we have kept going.

Avatar n tn I'm 8 weeks post prostate removal. Had Gleason 6- Margins were clear in pathology report. They now want me to have 7 weeks of 5 day, 15 minute radiation treatments as insurance. Has anyone else done this.? If so what are side effects. What was doctor's argument for the radiation. I can't decide what to do. Please help.
428185 tn?1203741789 I was diagnosed with PC on Feb. 15, haven't decided on treatment yet, still getting tests and consultations. Gleason score 8; two biopsies show it's confined to right apex, rest of gland looks clean; second biopsy and MRI/bone scan show no escape from prostate. So far most doctors have suggested I'd have to go on hormone deprivation before any kind of surgery, and I do not want that in any way.
Avatar n tn 4, so my doctor sent me to a urologist who gave me a biopsy, which was positive for prostate cancer on the right side of my prostate, Gleason score 4/3, and recommended either surgery or radiation. I'm currently awaiting surgery, which will probably take place either at the end of December or beginning of January. Yesterday I had another PSA test, and the result was 9.06. So yes, it's possible for it to go down if you have prostate cancer.
Avatar m tn //www.cancer.org/cancer/prostate-cancer/treating/considering-options.html https://www.cancer.org/cancer/prostate-cancer/treating/watchful-waiting.html Is surgery the only option they've mentioned? What about radiation? Have they mentioned your PSA level, your Gleason score? You can read more about those here - https://www.cancer.gov/publications/patient-education/prostate-cancer-treatment-choices.pdf https://www.cancercenter.
Avatar m tn A 2003 Australian study found that men who ejaculated more than five times a week were a third less likely to develop prostate cancer. Regularly flushing your system, so to speak, keeps your semen healthy and prevents the build up of cancer-causing chemicals. Also, it relieves stress and keeps everything about your body—your heart rate, blood pressure, reproductive system, brain chemistry—in very good shape.

Does the previous prostate surgery complicate the task of reattaching the urethra?
