Avatar m tn But, for the most part, those “health claims” are unsubstantiated and, at best, shaky. Plus, there are serious side effects of flax seed oil. For example, Some researchers believe flaxseed may affect blood clotting factors. This can be particularly worrisome for individuals who are taking blood thinning medications such as Coumadin, Heparin or even aspirin. If you wish to take flaxseed oil, and you're taking these types of medications, you should first consult with your doctor.

Avatar f tn There are natural remedies with anti-depressent effects but they have side effects of concern. All natural remedies should be approved for usage and supervised by a doctor or psychiatrist of course.
Avatar m tn Loaded with alpha-linolenic acid, an essential fatty acid that helps reduce inflammation, flaxseed has been used for centuries for medicinal and health reasons. Gandhi proclaimed, "Wherever flaxseed becomes a regular food item among the people, there will be better health." The seed itself has terrific nutritional value, very usable protein, tremendous fatty acids, and minerals like magnesium, potassium, and zinc. Additionally, they're a great source of fiber.

Some holistic health enthusiasts believe that cancer patients are deficient in essential lipids that cottage cheese mixed with flaxseed can replace. The scientific journal “Deutsche Medizinische Wochenschrift” published a study in 2012 that determined that cancer diets, such as the Budwig, diet do not cure cancer and can have adverse health effects.
Avatar f tn I would listen to your cardiologist or internal medicine doctor if they are very familiar with this situation. Omega 3 fish oil and flaxseed oil can both sometimes increase bleeding in patients taking blood thinners like coumadin (warfarin), apirin, and plavix. In diabetics on glucose lowering drugs there is some evidence that suggest that flaxseed oil may increase fasting blood sugar levels.

I'd still like to try it, however..particularly because my menses was especially "clotty" this month (sorry tmi!). I take the flaxseed oil capsules, 1000 mg morning and mid-day for my own osteoarthritis in my jaws as well as for mood. Avatar f tn He, my surgeon, told me to take Flaxseed oil so I bought the oil instead of the pills. I recommend the pill form. Flaxseed oil taste horrific and it made me feel sick but this morning I had a good BM. Try the pills if you can't take the actual oil. I bought it in Trader Joes (if you have them there) for 7.99 for the oil and 4.99 for the pill form. Oh and I eat Activia yogurt (in the past it helped me be regular) but the oil produced over night.
Avatar n tn but I wouls honestly consider taking your daughter off the Accutane. The side effects can be so horrible and are now related to a lot of gastrointestinal issues long term. My husband is a prime example...never had an upset stomach in his life and now all of a sudden he can't eat anything without tummy trouble and he's only 24. There are other options and unless absolutly NOTHING else has worked it is the last resort.

Avatar f tn I missed perimenopause, I guess, because I had a hysterectomy at age 34 for severe endometriosis. You might try drinking vanilla soymilk, maybe put it in your cereal, as I did. It has natural estrogen like effects. You might try natural sources of omega fatty acids for mood, like freshwater fish, such as salmon and tuna, walnuts and macadamia nuts, pumpkin seeds, and flaxseed. You might try flaxseed or if you aren't troubled by the fishy aftertaste, enteric coated fish oil capsules.
