Flaxseed oil blood thinner

Common Questions and Answers about Flaxseed oil blood thinner

flax-seed

Avatar f tn Ooh..you are answering all of my questions today! Thanks! I think I'm going to do the baby aspirin and probably continue to do the flaxseed but maybe just less of it. My DH and I don't get to eat a lot of fish so I know my diet could use the fatty acids. I had a major surgery this past January and I was told to stop taking fish oil before the surgery because it is a blood thinner. So that's why I was wondering if the flaxseed is a thinner as well!
Avatar m tn d like to stop the Plavix (which I assume is the problem) and increase the Fish Oil and perhaps add Vitamin E, also a blood thinner. Any comments or suggestions? (My doctor is not into natural supplements as an answer to medical problems.
558632 tn?1303471125 I am wondering if this is from the fish oil as well, knew it was a blood thinner, but only if you had bleeding issues to begin with. I only take 1/2 of the recommended dose (for dry eyes). My husband had been taking it for a year longer than I for his cholesterol and has never had a problem. I am being tested for celiac at end of april and i know bleeding gums is a symptom, so now am curious if i should discontinue taking??
Avatar f tn //www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/druginfo/natural/patient-flaxseed.html And high blood sugar is associated with insulin resistance (which lowers SVR). The Peg can cause high blood sugar.....and if your blood sugar goes up, long periods of fast cause it to go even higher.....meaning that it would be higher in the morning after not eating all night.....so taking the flaxseed oil on an empty stomach could make it even worse.
Avatar m tn Loaded with alpha-linolenic acid, an essential fatty acid that helps reduce inflammation, flaxseed has been used for centuries for medicinal and health reasons. Gandhi proclaimed, "Wherever flaxseed becomes a regular food item among the people, there will be better health." The seed itself has terrific nutritional value, very usable protein, tremendous fatty acids, and minerals like magnesium, potassium, and zinc. Additionally, they're a great source of fiber.
Avatar f tn I would listen to your cardiologist or internal medicine doctor if they are very familiar with this situation. Omega 3 fish oil and flaxseed oil can both sometimes increase bleeding in patients taking blood thinners like coumadin (warfarin), apirin, and plavix. In diabetics on glucose lowering drugs there is some evidence that suggest that flaxseed oil may increase fasting blood sugar levels.
Avatar n tn Has anyone used flaxseed oil for the 20g's of fat. I thought if I mixed it with a fruit smoothy it would be tolerable and I also found a flavored flaxseed oil but that was pretty expensive. I want to try to use the "good" fat for protease inhibitor. This anti-depressant already has me eating like crazy. I start this Friday Yikes!!
Avatar n tn Are you taking any anti-coagulant (commonly known as blood thinner) medication, such as aspirin, warfarin, heparin, plavix, or flaxseed oil? Have you had your cortisol level checked lately (as easy bruising can be a part of Cushing's disease)? Are you taking medicine for your vascular spasms?
Avatar m tn You really only need to drop your LDL by 20 points, which is not very much. Do a low fat diet, not empty carbs like breads, sugars and pastas. Add fruits and veggies as well. The easiest way is to cut out fast foods so if you indulge in burgers and fries, stop and that alone will bring your number down. Is there a reason why you don't want to take a statin?
Avatar f tn Tablet of fish oil or capsule? Should be a gel cap, not a tablet. And one a day is way too little for a capsule; you need a lot more than that for proper supplementation. Don't know why you're taking it or which one you're taking -- they don't all have the same amount of DHA and EPA in them -- so can't tell you how much to take. Same with spirulina. You need a lot more than you're taking. Both are foods, and you need to take enough to add up to something.
7584600 tn?1392261434 I HAVE read so many conflicting things..Is flaxseed oil bad for the liver or not!
Avatar m tn RRY is as you stated, a natural statin, however in this form there is no control over the amount of the actual statin in each dose which could be dangerous. Also, a side effect of Krill oil is a reduced ability for the blood to clot so it should never be taken by anyone with a bleeding disorder or someone already on a blood thinner like Plavix.
Avatar f tn Hi, I take flaxseed oil. I was taking it for the benefits to the heart. Haven't heard about benefits to panic attack sufferers. Would like to learn more though.
Avatar f tn I added 2 tablespoons of ground flaxseed to my diet for the past year. I was very discouraged when I received the results of my lipid panel results. Last year: total chol.=238, trig.=59, HDL=101, LDL=125. This year: total chol.=240, trig.=67, HDL=98, LDL=128. My bad numbers went up and my good number (HDL) went down. Why? (I am a 60 year old female. I exercise regularly (jog and ballet), I am 5'2" and weigh 92 pounds.
Avatar f tn t had a problem with my second. This is what im doing..... im taking flaxseed oil 1 Tablespoon once a day. I take a shot of cayenne oil and chase it with chocolate once a day. I buy it from my local health food store and follow the instructions on the bottle. I get my heart rate up once a day by fast walking for half an hour and ive noticed the worst food for me is Potatoe chips. Invest in home blood pressure kit too that way you can monitor the effects of the food you eat and good luck.
Avatar f tn Does anyone know if drizzling flaxseed oil onto salad, orange juice and other foods is OK for people with MS? I heard that flaxseed oil is supposed to help patients with MS a lot. It contains Omega 3 fatty acids.
974298 tn?1324833193 um I am not sure about the flaxseed... I have no info on it!!! but it won't hurt just to try it for one cycle and see how you do!!!
Avatar n tn These include olive oil, canola oil, peanut oil, safflower oil, omega 3 fatty acids, soybean oil, sunflower oil, corn oil, flaxseed, salmon, trout, and cold water fish, avacados, and nuts. Stay away from Sautrated and Hydorgenated oils! Another very improtant factor is however much sodium you get, you need equal amounts of pottassium. Look at the labels of foods because sodium is included in almost all foods especially seasoning and sauces.
Avatar f tn To help me get pregnant after my miscarriage I used DIM fish oil flaxseed oil and took prenatals
Avatar f tn My respiralogisted recommended a couple different vitamins - vitamin D (2000 IU daily), vitamin C (2000 IU daily), N-acetyl cysteine (1500mg daily), CoQ 10 (60mg a day) and fish oil (2000mg daily). The vitamin D, fish oil and N-acetyl cysteine may help you because they all help the immune system and the last one helps thin the mucus and is a powerful antioxdiant. Hope that helps!
1762978 tn?1313614515 Most importantly, krill oil has one serious side effect, it can make it difficult for your blood to clot so it should not be taken by anyone already on a blood thinner or with a bleeding disorder. Like all supplements, you should discuss it with your doctor before starting it's use.
Avatar n tn The Budwig diet is mainly composed of flaxseed oil and cottage cheese with restrictions on eating animal meats, butter and sugars. Some holistic health enthusiasts believe that cancer patients are deficient in essential lipids that cottage cheese mixed with flaxseed can replace. The scientific journal “Deutsche Medizinische Wochenschrift” published a study in 2012 that determined that cancer diets, such as the Budwig, diet do not cure cancer and can have adverse health effects.
