flax-seed

Avatar m tn You really only need to drop your LDL by 20 points, which is not very much. Do a low fat diet, not empty carbs like breads, sugars and pastas. Add fruits and veggies as well. The easiest way is to cut out fast foods so if you indulge in burgers and fries, stop and that alone will bring your number down. Is there a reason why you don't want to take a statin?
Avatar f tn total chol.=240, trig.=67, HDL=98, LDL=128. My bad numbers went up and my good number (HDL) went down. Why? (I am a 60 year old female. I exercise regularly (jog and ballet), I am 5'2" and weigh 92 pounds. I eat lots of high fiber foods--whole grains, beans, vegetables and fruits. I limit the bad fats. I do not take any medications; however, I take 1000 mg of calcium, 1200 of vit. D, and 400 of vit. E daily.) What can I do to lower my LDL?
Avatar m tn Loaded with alpha-linolenic acid, an essential fatty acid that helps reduce inflammation, flaxseed has been used for centuries for medicinal and health reasons. Gandhi proclaimed, "Wherever flaxseed becomes a regular food item among the people, there will be better health." The seed itself has terrific nutritional value, very usable protein, tremendous fatty acids, and minerals like magnesium, potassium, and zinc. Additionally, they're a great source of fiber.
Avatar m tn My LDL level is 132 and cholesterol is 210 and HDL is 63. What should I do now to be healthy? This discussion is related to Free Live Web Chat w/ Cleveland Clinic Cardiologist - Noon Today!.
Avatar f tn Hello and thanks for this service! Is it more beneficial to take an "omega 3 EPA & DHA fish oil supplement" or an "omega 3, 6 &9 EPA & DHA fish oil supplement"? I'm a bit confused as to which would be of the optimum benefit to purchase. Thanks for your time and expertise!
Avatar n tn I am very frightened by my recent cholesterol tests.. Although my total was 148. ldl was 100 triglycerides were 52 which are all normal i think, my hdl was only 37.... I am a 37 year old female and I am wondering if Have heart disease or if I am on the verge of a heart attack.. The doctor acted as if it was no big deal but everything I read says low hdl is the worst to have even if your cholesterol is normal.. I am afraid to walk or do anything now as I think i am going to drop..
Avatar n tn ) back to hdl u can just continue eating sardine and tuna,if u replace butter and vegetable oil by olive oil it would be good too, look at the food u buy, wherever u find things that contains omega 3 it would help u to raise the hdl..and again,it's not that dangerous. best regards.
Avatar n tn Flax seeds, whole, will just pass through your GI tract pretty much undisturbed.A lot has written about flaxseed oil but more has been validated with Fish Oil to really have a positive impact on lipids, heart, inflammation, eyes, GI and joints.I would recommend a prescription type Fish Oil to assure purity and consistency in dosage. Do you really need 8 glasses of water? You're probably swallowing quite a bit of air with that.
326176 tn?1239515689 To raise hdl avoid meats take oilive, peanuts, flaxseed oil, co-q10. cashew will raise hdl at the same time raise ldl.
Avatar f tn Both fish oil and niacin boost HDL, plump up LDL particles, and reduce inflammation. flaxseed contains three ingredients that aid in maintaining heart health. Flaxseed is rich with the plant form of omega-3 fatty acids, lignans, which contain both plant estrogen and antioxidant qualities, plus soluble and insoluble fiber. Flaxseed seems to help not only with a person’s cholesterol profile but even in maintaining heart rhythm.
Avatar n tn Has anyone used flaxseed oil for the 20g's of fat. I thought if I mixed it with a fruit smoothy it would be tolerable and I also found a flavored flaxseed oil but that was pretty expensive. I want to try to use the "good" fat for protease inhibitor. This anti-depressant already has me eating like crazy. I start this Friday Yikes!!
Avatar f tn Heart Healthy diet which is a moderate fat diet and a moderate fat diet means = using polyunsaturated (omega 3, corn oil, nuts, etc) fats and monounsaturated (olive oil, canola oil, peanut oil, etc) fats, no saturated fats (high fat snack foods, butter, fat spreads) and no trans fats.
Avatar m tn With a controlled diet as well as taking a statin drug, my LDL blood tests that are taken every 90 days show a level of under 80, and my balance of ldl/hdl is about 2.5/1, and my cardiac surgeon gave me a high five! I do eat some meat, but lean beef or pork about once a week, and chicken a couple days a week. I live in a part of the country where fish is available, so have fish often, particularly salmon.
Avatar f tn I already am on the Mediterranean Diet (EV olive oil, flaxseed, fish oil or salmon, no frying , pomegrante juice, oatmeal, veggies, salads) I cheat a little with ice cream, but I am at a loss as to what to do. I also walk and do pilates. This is why I am a little discouraged.
Avatar m tn is flaxseed oil the same as fish oil? It has the omega 3's in it. I don't need my cholesterol going up. ps. can anyone relate to my question posted earlier about heart pauses and PAT?
Avatar n tn No it doesn't mean you have heart disease , the only way to deternine that is to get a angiogram or CT scan of your heart. A low fat/low cholesterol diet will lower your HDL but will also lower your LDL big time..its the ratio of HDL to LDL that's most important. My LDL before I started the niaspan and diet was over 100 and my total was 185 or so. In 6 weeks I have went down to the numbers you see in my first post. My trigs were at 144 and are now in the low 80's.
Avatar m tn I am vegetarian and got cholesterol results back with extremely low HDL (something around 30...oops!). I'm overweight and was already on an exercise plan (that's thing number one. exercise, exercise, exercise), so they said in addition to that, i should take fish oil pills. But that's against my vegetarian-ism, so I did the flaxseed instead. They grind up the seeds into a power (I guess your body doesn't process the seeds as well as the powder) and you eat the powder.

7584600 tn?1392261434 I HAVE read so many conflicting things..Is flaxseed oil bad for the liver or not!
Avatar n tn I just got back my cholesterol test.. total 148 ldl 100. tri's were 52 but then the hdl was only 37.. I am terrified that I am a walking time bomb. now....
Avatar f tn Hi, I take flaxseed oil. I was taking it for the benefits to the heart. Haven't heard about benefits to panic attack sufferers. Would like to learn more though.
Avatar f tn I would listen to your cardiologist or internal medicine doctor if they are very familiar with this situation. Omega 3 fish oil and flaxseed oil can both sometimes increase bleeding in patients taking blood thinners like coumadin (warfarin), apirin, and plavix. In diabetics on glucose lowering drugs there is some evidence that suggest that flaxseed oil may increase fasting blood sugar levels.

Avatar f tn I asked my doctor (RE) about taking 81 mg of baby aspirin to encourage blood flow to the uterus but she said the effects are not proven and therefore she does not use it in her practice. I'd still like to try it, however..particularly because my menses was especially "clotty" this month (sorry tmi!). But I also take flaxseed oil and I want to make sure that taking both of these won't be an issue. I'm on my 4th round of clomid 100 mgs, days 3-7 with progesterone supps.
Avatar f tn Does anyone know if drizzling flaxseed oil onto salad, orange juice and other foods is OK for people with MS? I heard that flaxseed oil is supposed to help patients with MS a lot. It contains Omega 3 fatty acids.
