Avatar n tn I have heard many different things about glucosamine for dogs . That is is okay for your dogs, and also that it isn't. There can be many benefits to providing supplements for your dog. It can help them remain healthy and with that even happier. No one likes to deal with a grumpy dog. Can you tell me where I could find more information about glucosamine for dogs though?
Avatar f tn In diabetics on glucose lowering drugs there is some evidence that suggest that flaxseed oil may increase fasting blood sugar levels. Also, for men concerned about prostate health, some studies have shown a possible link between the ALA fatty acids in flaxseed oil and prostate cancer. In general, omega-3 fish oils have been shown to have beneficial effects on cardiovascular health so I wonder if you have some sort of special situation that would cause your internist to recommend against it.

Gandhi proclaimed, "Wherever flaxseed becomes a regular food item among the people, there will be better health." The seed itself has terrific nutritional value, very usable protein, tremendous fatty acids, and minerals like magnesium, potassium, and zinc. Additionally, they're a great source of fiber.

And it did seem like it was more for ladies outside of their first trimester and really beneficial if you were getting ready for labor. Avatar n tn Yes, most dogs will do a twice a year shed and this would be the time as we are going into Summer although it is believed that the longer days and more sunlight triggers the dogs to shed (reverse for Winter months approaching). Also, being in the house a lot, probably with the heat on, will often cause flaky skin. Dogs that are in the house more, will often shed more as they don't really go through the Season changes dogs that spend more time outside do.
Avatar n tn I am not affiliated with this site at all, but I would like to say something to everyone on this site. Vaccines have gotten very dangerous and I have a friend who vaccinated her poor old dog once again with rabies, and it resulted in paralysis of his back legs. Please read the paper "Science of Vaccine Damage" (http://www.drcarley.com/Science_of_vaccine_damage.pdf).
Avatar n tn Hi there. As far as I know, studies about flax seed and cancer are still in their infancy stage. The cancer more frequently associated with this is prostate cancer. I'm quoting this text from the american cancer society website: http://www.cancer.org/docroot/NWS/content/NWS_1_1x_Flaxseed_Ginseng_Show_Promise_for_Cancer_Patients.

Avatar f tn There is the possibility of an allergic reaction to the almond milk, though this is less likely. Flaxseed is safe for dogs, however as it bulks up the digestive tract, it can cause dehydration if your dog hasn't been drinking sufficient water. While Buffalo is a reasonable dog food, if you are feeding the dry variety, consider changing (slowly) to tinned, which has more water and is an asy way of hydrating a dog that may not rink enough.
Avatar m tn But, then, I have seen the same salmon treats I get for the cat being made for dogs. And, they wonder why everyday people start getting confused about what is good and what isn't good for our pets. It's also a little strange when the natural vet says not to feed fish to cats, since it's actually not species appropriate. Now, her reasoning actually makes sense. I mean, where does the house cat's ancestry come from anyway? The desert, right?
Avatar f tn Eat healthy and exercise. Exercise is really great for kicking your immune system into gear. I also do yoga/stretches for stress reduction. Be sure to take your vitamins. I read flaxseed and garlic is good.
Avatar f tn I added 2 tablespoons of ground flaxseed to my diet for the past year. I was very discouraged when I received the results of my lipid panel results. Last year: total chol.=238, trig.=59, HDL=101, LDL=125. This year: total chol.=240, trig.=67, HDL=98, LDL=128. My bad numbers went up and my good number (HDL) went down. Why? (I am a 60 year old female. I exercise regularly (jog and ballet), I am 5'2" and weigh 92 pounds.
Avatar n tn The Budwig diet is mainly composed of flaxseed oil and cottage cheese with restrictions on eating animal meats, butter and sugars. Some holistic health enthusiasts believe that cancer patients are deficient in essential lipids that cottage cheese mixed with flaxseed can replace. The scientific journal “Deutsche Medizinische Wochenschrift” published a study in 2012 that determined that cancer diets, such as the Budwig, diet do not cure cancer and can have adverse health effects.
Avatar f tn Does anyone have any suggestions about remedies for a lazy colon. I have come to the conclusion this is my problem. I have suffered with constipation for years and have seen a gastric doctor for 25+ years. I CANNOT drink the fiber drinks! Citrucel, Metimucel, etc. They blow me up and seem to get stuck in my stomach at my waist. Sometimes I go as long as 11 - 14 days without a bowel movement.
