Common Questions and Answers about Filgrastim injection information

neupogen

962875 tn?1314210036 Her oncologist plans to give her an injection of Neulasta (pegfilgrastim ) each week during this phase of tx. I know that this medication is used to reduce the chance of infection related to the decrease of neutrophils associated with some chemotherapies, but that it may also cause some unpleasant or serious side effects... My understanding was that in the past it was usually given in response to a drop in neutrophils, documented by blood tests, rather than prophylactically.
493068 tn?1224765315 Do any of you have information about any long term side effects if you had Neupogen for 40 weeks?
Avatar n tn Filgrastim is also prescribed as pegfilgrastim (called Neulasta). My doctor used the 500 neutrophill count as a cut-off, so every time I got down around 500 I used Neulasta. The interferon drops neutrophils and platelets. Some people can do okay with low neutrophils but just as many end up with kidney and sinus infections, etc., that make you even more miserable.
1391695 tn?1298139789 t understand. Why would you move the interferon injection rather than the neupogen injection? Your ANC at 700 is not alarmingly low so there isn't a need to favour neupogen over interferon with numbers like that. I don't know that the 2 day break between neupogen and interferon is a requirement as much as it is a recommendation. Why not move your neupogen injection schedule instead?
Avatar f tn Neulasta is a peglated version of Neupogen which is also know as filgrastim. It's used to stimulate production of neutrophils, a component of whilte blood cells. It can be taken less often than regular 'ol Neupogen. I found it rougher than Neupgen in that it had some side effects, mainly bone pain. I found Neupogen to be side-less. Aranesp is Darbepoetin Alfa which is like Procrit (epo). It is also taken less often than Procrit.
Avatar n tn After treatment you will be fine and all those living with you have an injection also to ensure it does not spread. This is what is done in Australia. I contracted it 40 years ago but didnt know i had HepC at the same time. Within 6 weeks i was fine but you will carry HepB antibodies for the rest of your life. You will be fine as long as you get the treatment. Yellowing of the skin and eyes should clear within the six weeks. This is my personal experiance and others that i know of.
Avatar m tn Do you mean filgrastim? And are you saying Dengue fever? It would be a surprising though perhaps not impossible use of filgrastim. Dengue is usually treated by pain managers and sometimes hospitalization and a blood transfusion. Anyway, if you have a legitimate prescription from a doctor, you should be able to fill it in the United States.
Avatar f tn For this reason, patients are prescribed antibiotics and even receive injections to increase white blood counts (such as filgrastim or lenograstim). If this 0.4 value really pertains to your white counts, then I believe this is really low and what you are experiencing is a condition called 'febrile neutropenia'. I would suggest you ask your doctor about filgrastim or lenograstim injections aside from the Levaquin. Regards.
476246 tn?1418870914 , the primary ‘rescue’ meds are (generic) epoetin alpha (brand names Epogen, Procrit, Aransp), and filgrastim (generic) (brand name Neupogen). We do have a platelet booster here that has been approved for cancer treatment; it is generically known as oprelvekin (brand name Neumega), but its use has not been FDA approved for HCV treatment to my knowledge; it tends to worsen hemolytic anemia, although we have had a few patients in forum that have tried it.
Avatar f tn HIV is only transmitted by unprotected sex or by direct exposure to blood, like when sharing needles for drug injection. It is never transmitted by razor blades in barber shops.
Avatar f tn Honestly, your need for reassurance is part of your anxiety. Something tells me you have worried before about hiv and looked up things or asked us here before. If AIR inactivates the virus, you can't touch blood and get HIV. Air is present. Touching a needle is different than an INJECTION. A needle stick is different than an injection. She didn't wear gloves. Big deal.
Avatar f tn Several people here have used it. Actually, what gets whacked is a component of the WBC call neutrophils - sometime referred absolute neutrophils or ANCs. These are a separate line item on a CBC report. Docs invoke the use of Neupogen at at different levels. I found the use of Neup to be a non-event, no side effects. Others expereince bone pain and injection site soreness. It's much better to use Neupogen than to reduce the dose of the Peg.
Avatar m tn i went to hospital and doctor ordered some urine and blood test and after 2 hours he gave me 2 medicine that was one injection antibiotic and 4 antibiotic tablets one time. i am just wondering that how long it takes to my problem solve because i still have some burning in my urethra. and also feel diziness.
1986676 tn?1329862471 Musculoskeletal symptoms have been the most frequently reported adverse effects of filgrastim therapy. Bone pain has been reported in approximately 22% of patients. Reactivation of pseudogout occurred in a patient receiving chemotherapy. Postmarketing reports have included decreased bone density and osteoporosis in pediatric severe chronic neutropenia (SCN) patients receiving chronic treatment with filgrastim.
Avatar f tn Thank you for the information Dr Handsfield. It really eased my nerves. The guy who assaulted me was neither of those things. I am going to speak to a counselar about the sexual assault. It has been lingering on & off in my mind for while & I am going to make an apt. to see my obgyn. I have been going regularly to those apts. Based on the information on the forum you have already posted. White heterosexual men that are non injection drug users in the US are at a much lower risk for hiv?
Avatar n tn Hi, There will be some chance of infection as a result of low blood (WBC) count about 7 to 10 days after her chemo, and counts are expected to go back to normal around day 14. This duration of low WBC can be reduced by giving growth factors like injection filgrastim. She should avoid raw foods (salads, fruits, yogurt etc) during this period. At the time of radiation, she may complain of pain, skin discomfort and color change, low blood counts, cough and chest pain.
Avatar m tn Doctors unable to give any explanation for such wide variations on a dose to dose basis. Till date, I have also taken 5 doses of Filgrastim - the WBC Stimulator. Can you pleae advice possible reasons for such wide fluctuations.

Avatar f tn In regard to injection, if u pull back and see blood does it mean you hit a.capillary,or vein or what? Last week the nurse who gave me the shot did.not pull back and check for blood. If there is blood can u withdraw needle and inject in different spot in same area?
Avatar n tn Hi I've just come off the depo injection as I want to try and conceive in the next few months! Could anyone give me any more information on the depo injection I've only had the injection 3 times. Also I'm inly spotting blood is this normal after coming off the depo?
Avatar m tn Neulasta® (pegfilgrastim) or NEUPOGEN® (Filgrastim) may reduce your chance of getting an infection, but it does not prevent all infections. An infection can happen anytime your neutrophil counts are low. Look for signs of infection, such as fever, chills, rash, sore throat, diarrhea, or redness, swelling, or pain around a cut or sore. If you have any of these signs, contact your health care professional immediately. http://www.neulasta.com/starting-chemo-with-neulasta/about-neulasta-neupogen.
Avatar m tn Look for some more information after injection. I had epidural injection in lover back. After pain come back ... and surgery. After all I disable. I wish you to find right information before injection.
Avatar f tn Is there any type of chemotherapy treatment which would involve a shot to the abdomen? I'm not referring to the IP treatment, but simply a quick injection. Doesn't chemotherapy need to go into the veins? In the case of ovarian cancer, is there a topical chemo that can be applied & if so would that require surgery or an injection? My daughter in law is getting a weekly abdominal shot, supposedly for stage 2 ovarian cancer, but I'm not confident about this treatment.
