Common Questions and Answers about Fentanyl medicine

Avatar n tn All the pain meds can have serious side effects and alot of it depends on how you take it. Fentanyl for example has been the blame for over doses but so has Oxycontin. In your case, I'm not sure that the Fentanyl Patch would be right for you anyway. You should be on a stronger pain med like Oxycontin or Oxycodone before you switch to the Fentanyl otherwise the Patch would be much too strong for you.
1481230 tn?1287973781 Anyone else hear that Sandoz quit manufacturing the 50 mcg of the Fentanyl Patches??? This is what the pharmacist at Walmart told me when I went to go get my script filled for a higher dose. I have tried Mylan and Sandoz. and I liked Sandoz a lot better. Now I am using Watson...which is weird....I can at least visually see the medicine now but it leaves marks on my skin and my pain hasn't been controlled lately even with the increase.
Avatar f tn If you place them in the same place all the time, the medicine eventually eats the skin and causes infections. Overlapping only allows part of the medicine to be released, it takes direct contact with the skin to penetrate. I've been told NOT to put them near your heart, they work best for me on the inner of my thighs, my upper sides, and not quite underneath my armpits. they are activated by body temp. so the hotter you get the more medicine is released.
Avatar f tn Yes there is writing on the patch. You can cover them with Nexcare tegaderm patches but be aware they are expensive. You must not cover the fentanyl patch with anything else like tape or bandaids as it doesn't breath and too much medicine can be released. The tegaderm allows oxygen through. Trader's the only thing you can use to cove fentanyl patches. You can write mylan about the problem and see if they will you provide you with the tegaderm for free.
Avatar m tn I have been using fentanyl subliminal (?) Tablet 400mcg for approximately 1 year when I was switched to the Subsys fentanyl 1600 mcg spray. I was on this spray for 1 year. I was abruptly taken off of this medicine (cold turkey). My only saving grace was some 200 mg Nucynta tablets that I had used for break through pain ( Friday through Tuesday) I used these tablets until the doctor could see me last Tuesday @ 2:45PM. I have been given 60 MG morphine sulfate and 8 MG hydromorphone.
1310633 tn?1430224091 Hello all... I was lurking in the Pain Management forums and someone mentioned that they've changed the way the Fentanyl patch is manufactured. They no longer have that gel stuff on the inside that you can squeeze/suck out (so I learned when I was in rehab). They now put the Fentanyl directly into the adhesive that sticks the patch to your skin.
Avatar f tn So I would just discuss with your doctor the fact that the fentanyl is no longer working. I have heard that fentanyl tends to work a lot longer than longer acting opioids in pill form before effectiveness begins to wane. The options that your doctor will most likely present to you are, an increase in fentanyl (which will require wearing a couple of patches versus just one), an increase or change in breakthrough pain medication and/or an addition of a long acting medication in pill form.
Avatar f tn I have been on fentanyl for 3 years d/t bone pain, last year I had a nerve ablation on my lower back(L4/5 S1. Ever since I had this nerve ablation I don't have bone pain anymore. Was on Fentanyl 100mcg due to bone pain. I find out now that Fentanyl is not helping anymore. My Doc wants me to try and titrate down on Fentanyl,I had asked him and he suggests that I should start from 100mcg to 75 then to 50 and then to 25mcg. What would be your suggestion? Please say some prayers my way..
Avatar f tn Keep in mind that you also may want to reserve some of the fentanyl dosage as oxycodone IR or some other immediate release medicine for breakthrough pain. Fentanyl is not a breakthrough pain medication, it is for coverage of your baseline pain, not pain that breaks through the long acting Fentanyl...oxycodone IR, morphine IR, vicodin, opana IR is instead used for those events.
Avatar m tn I have never had to do bloodwork to get my pain medicine. This time they want me to pick it up because they want me to do bloodwork. My friend was just told the same thing from a different doctor. Is it a new law or are they wanting to making sure I am taking what I am supposed to? I don't like feeling like a criminal. I do take a high dose of medicine. I certainly would never sell them. Anyone else have this done to them recently.
Avatar m tn He may well be getting too much pain medicine. Fentanyl, fentora, and opana are all strong pain meds..... depending upon metabolism and times of dose the lunesta and the diazepam may be interacting. With a history of 8 surgeries he may be on too much for pain. Doc Jeff will have real solid advice....... I would think that if the pain is a strong issue with what he is on you need to rethink the game plan. Dont want to medicate him to a coma........but you dont want him in 24/7 pain either.
682757 tn?1226867854 Hey, I know how your feeling. I detoxed cold turkey off 150mcg over a 100 days ago. Me and Jacqui can relate to you big time. I went through almighty hell! I am still suffering. If it wasn't for jacqui helping me on here, I would have lost my mind! Fentanyl is a nasty , nasty drug! It's the strongest pain medicine out there! It's a 100 times stronger than morphine and it stronger than herion. You will get through this! You just have to be strong.
Avatar f tn I've been on the Fentanyl patch for a while now (75 mcg/h.) It does help in some ways with the pain, but my breakthrough pain medicine is not where I want it. i am seriously stressed out right now about my dad. (His PET scan is tomorrow and then the lung doctor the following Tuesday.) Other family news that is also bad. No wonder the pain is not well controlled. Question, though, is memory. I have NONE. I seem perfect in my responses (and intentions.
Avatar f tn s a good chance that you need to have your fentanyl dose upped. Ideally, breakthrough pain meds should be taken only for that - periodic times when the long lasting medications aren't quite enough. They should not be used as "additional dosing". I would suggest talking to your doctor about adjusting your fentanyl dose up, even slightly. You may still need or want to request a refill on the breakthrough meds so that you have some on hand in case you find you need them.
Avatar m tn My shoulder was put back together with a titanium plate and 9 screws, and after 3 months of agonizing pain, my surgeon sent me to a pain clinic, who put me on Fentanyl. 6 months later, I went to go see a second surgeon who went in with a scope and found (and fixed) what was causing my pain. Two bone spurs, arthritis, and missing cartalidge. I tapered from 100 mics to 50 mics, and then instead of going to 25 told him I wanted it done.
Avatar f tn Fentanyl (Transdermal, Transbuccal, Transmucosal, Sublingual) Norfentanyl 4-N-(N-propionylanilino) piperidine 4-N-(Nhydroxypropionylanilino) piperidine 1-(2-phenethyl)-4-N-(Nhydroxypropionylanilino) piperidine So are neither opiates showing up in your UDS - or just the Fentanyl? If it's the Fentanyl then your physician may just need some education is reading Fentanyl UDS results. It's not your other medications that are influencing the results of your UDS.
Avatar n tn i went to the dr to day while i was in his office i was discussing fentanyl patches with another paitent. i told them that i have always had to buy overlays to keep them on. they said to use a blow dryer to heat them up first then put them on they would stick better, i asked wouldnt this be bad heating them up they replied not if you do it while it is not on your skin.
5135507 tn?1367163227 Outcome may vary from one person to another depending on a variety of factors such as medical history, age, overall health and response to medicine. Aside from pain medications, complementary and alternative medicine such as biofeedback therapy or acupuncture may also help provide relief. Take care and do keep us posted. Best regards.
Avatar f tn I agree that for so long complementary and alternative medicine has been regarded as hocus pocus medicine. Complementary medicine is defined as nonstandard treatments that you use along with standard care practices. At present, there has been researches done to prove this type of medicine.
1364139 tn?1280791344 I use the fentanyl patch for my neck and back pain and my pain management doctor feels that it is okay for me to continue to wear the patch during surgery (he is an anesthesiologist). I talked to the pharmacist today and he said that I absolutely should take off the patch, and even should take it off a few hours before since the medicine is still in the body and releasing so I don't technically need the patch attached to my skin for the last few hours before the surgery.
1644508 tn?1301001315 t that ALOT of pain medicine? I am not taking the percocet or Fentanyl right now. Just suboxone. Is it possible that it may take a few days to build up in my system? I am miserable! Thank you SOOO much!
Avatar f tn I have been on Fentanyl for 8 years and just found out, we are pregnant. In shock, since we have children ready for college. Has anyone gone through and entire pregnancy while on Fentanyl. I have read all reports/studies and have the best dr's. However, I need to know more. Thanks you.
443878 tn?1205103196 I have recently began using Fentanyl 50mcg/hr Transdermal Patches. Previously I had been taking 80mg of Oxycontin bid as well as 10mg of Percocet tid to control breakthrough pain. My physician at that time discontinued the Oxycontin and Percocet cold turkey. Te next month of my life was pure hell and I believe I almost died. The resulting health issues were a kidney infection; bladder infection; UTI as well as severe dehydration with associative muscle cramping. My total weight loss was 60lbs.
