Fenofibrate in combination with a Statin drug can cause severe Rhabdomyolysis. I know because I have gone through it. My muscle pain got so severe that I couldn't even move my arms and I wound up in the ER with kidney (also a muscle) pain so severe, I was climbing the walls.
Normally, the medication is taken the whole life of the patient, but you of course can discuss medication dose or medication stopping with your doctor. He/she knows what risks it will mean in your mothers situation.
If it is because of side effects that your mother would like to stop or lower dose, keep in mind that there are many different cholesterol lowering medications, each with different side effects.
Also here, discuss with her doctor.

Please help me .My Serum Ige level is on the increase from 1150 to 1370 in just 3 weeks.
I have hypothyroidism,I have high triglycerides 479 & cholesterol level 270.I have been prescribed Fenofibrate 200 mg for triglycerides & Zatofen 1 mg for serum Ige,but these medicines causing too many side effects back pain,knee pain.restless legs & insomnia.Please help.
THAT OF COURSE WOULD BE A TERRIBLE THING TO DO, AND I RECOGNIZED THE PAIN I WOULD CAUSE MY GROWN SONS AND MY ELDERLY MOTHER. I STARTED TAKING 160 MG. OF PROZAC A DAY AS A DESPERATE ATTEMPT TO GET RID OF THE SADNESS AND DEPRESSION. IS THAT TOO MUCH DOSAGE TO TAKE? I FEEL HAPPIER. MUCH LESS SAD MEMORIES. NO DESIRE TO SHOOT/KILL MYSELF. WILL IT KEEP WORKING? WILL I NEED HIGHER DOSAGES IF THE DEPRESSION COMES BACK.?
s are easy to lower, cut back on all sugars, breads, pastas and alcohol, that usually is enough. If not, you can try a Fenofibrate which is a very effective drug.
Ever since I started taking Zetia and Fenofibrate together as recommended by my DR, I have put on pounds, am more bloated around the belly,a nd have persistent chest pains. I noticed this has occurred ever since I have been on cholesterol lowering meds, but is more noticeable in the past year with the new combination of drugs. I mentioned this to my DR and he said I need the drugs because of my High Cholesterol. What do you think?
Hi I was recently prescribed Fenofibrate to help reduce my high cholesterol levels etc... after a blood test.
I have been doing some digging around regarding the drug and it says I should not be taking it if one has Hep B.
I haven't found what the reasons are so I was wondering if someone could elaborate why one should not be taking it if one has Hep B.

I am on Losartan 50 mg sice last few years, Sometime my BP goes berserk ranging from 150-160/90-105. I used to combine atenolo 25 mg and it used to be normal. Now since 5 days back I forgot to take Losartan at my usual time in morning, but took it in evening. What happened that my BP is not cominh down, I take metprolol 25 mg in morning and after an hour or so BP becomes more or less normal but start rising after 9pm and in the morning ranges the same as mentioned earlier.
This past September her fasting glucose was in the 130-140 mg/dl range. She is now below 95 mg/dl fasting and 145 mg/dl postprandial. Everyone caught their diabetes early and were able to reverse it. I don't feel this obtainable with those who have type ii's for years then hope to reverse it, nor even those who are first diagnosed but have skyrocketing fasting glucose high levels say in the 300-400 mg/dl.
My new VA doctor wants to change one of my blood pressure medications from 160 mg of Valsartan 2 times per day to an equivalent dose of 100 mg of Losartan but only once per day. My blood pressure has been controlled for years with typical readings around 118/70 using the Valsartan, Amlodipine 5mg, and a diuretic (hydrochlorothiazide 25mg). I have not made the change yet.
1. Why should I agree to experiment with reducing my primary blood pressure medication and what are the risks?
2% is equivalent to a daily glucose level of 146 to 160 mg/dl, well into diabetes land. A normal A1c is 4.1 - 5.0% which is 70 to 99 mg/dl. Diabetes starts at an A1c of >6% and where complications began to take shape.
There are many drug company sponsored web sites wanting one [and some doctors] to believe higher than normal A1c and/or glucose levels are OK when in fact it induces diabetes side effects.
Thank you for your comments. They are very encouraging. The medication that I am taking is Diovan 160 mg daily; Coreg 25 mg (1 every 12 hrs); Lanoxin .25mg daily; Zocor 40 mg daily; and Aldactone 25 mg daily. and I also take 1 baby asprin daily. I still get tired easily but am trying to walk daily.
My cardiologist doubled the furosemide to 160 mg (taken in doses of 80mg twice daily). After the third day at this increased dosage I began experiencing a deep and extreme sadness over things in the past that cannot be changed. My appetite for food, socialization, exercise, (just about everything) has disappeared. I have some memory loss and am deeply depressed although I take Effexor XR 150 mg every evening. Should I ask my doctor to change the depression symptoms?
