315318 tn?1353251800 Once I started taking the fenofibrate, I suddenly got muscular pain, especially in my thighs and getting up a flight of stairs became difficult. I stopped taking the fenofibrate pill nearly ten days ago and the pain has subsided. My first question is: has anybody else been prescribed these medicines together and what was their experience. On the internet, there are articles which show strong interaction between these two types of lipid lowering drugs.
Avatar n tn i have been taking tri-cor and simvastatin (40mg) for several years. Over the last 8 months i stopped taking the tri-cor because insurance no longer covered it and I decreased my simvastatin to 20mg. At the same time in increased my fiber significantly (metemucil and high fiber cereal daily) and began taking one 1000mg of fish oil each day. Lost a few pounds as well, I'm 41, 5'10" and 173lbs non-smoker.
822804 tn?1298226302 I have learned that I had hashimotos disease but not until after my thyroid was removed. My triglycerides are 263..how can I lower that number.I am currently taking fish oil 1,000mg - they have increased my dosage from twice daily to three times daily..any other suggestions?
Avatar m tn Any fenofibrate is safe to use. One name is Tricor and it does a good job lowering serum TGL's. You can also impact your TGL's by cutting out all empty carbs like breads, pastas, sugar and alcohol as it metabolizes as sugars. I would try that first unless your numbers a very high, in excess of 400.
1143283 tn?1408903305 Any time you have a surgical procedure, I think you should expect blood sugar and cholesterol levels to be out of whack for awhile. However, if your triglycerides were 400 before the surgery, I'd be pro-active, as you are, to get them down. I don't know about thyroid issues. I do know that diets high in sugars and fats without benefit of exercise tend to result in high levels.
Avatar n tn I know because my husband is on it. You should try to change your diet to no oil and more plant based less meat or no meat and whole grains. You actually will get enough protein. No cheese because that has loads of fat. That will help with the cholesterol, blood pressure and weight. If you don't want to that is ok. I have a website you can read or a book www.drmcdougall.com and/or the Starch Solution by Dr. McDougall or see the DVD Forks over Knives. It is really good.
Avatar n tn After 7 years of therapy taking Crestor and Tricor (fenofibrate), I, too, started experiencing intense pain in my legs, feet, back, and arms. My Dr. took me off Crestor last month but the pain returned within a few days, although not as intense as it was prior to my stopping Crestor. I took myself off fenofibrate just a couple of days ago and "Wow" what a difference! I can actually sleep at night and notice that the pain is dissipating more and more each day.
Avatar n tn My triglycerides used to be elevated, not that high, but over normal. I beleive it was close to 200. What lowered mine was taking fish oil liquid. The "Carlson" Fish oil is the best and it is the ONLY thing that lowers it. I take it twice a day, morning and night, a tablespoon, I would not be without it. My triglycerides are now 72. A person should start noticing a difference in about 3 to 6 months. Hope this helps.
159619 tn?1707018272 Well, I get to talk to you all about your numbers, the least I can do is give you my latest numbers. I got my report today from my annual check up and have compared them to 2005 and they are as follows; TC 158.................. 2005) 242 HDL 40................. .2005) 40 LDL 78 .................. 2005) 142 TGL 195 ................ 2005) 300 GLUCOSE 87 ....... 2005) 106 So what did I do? I started out by losing over 80 pounds, it has made a huge difference.
Avatar m tn It is used in combination with a diet low in cholesterol and saturated fat. Fenofibrate may also be used for purposes other than those mentioned. Fenofibrate is only part of a complete program of treatment that also includes diet, exercise, and weight control. You need to follow your diet, medication, and exercise routines very closely. Sideeffects of using fenofibrate are severe stomach pain, muscle weakness, vomiting, fever.
617441 tn?1221176206 By all means give them fish oil and maybe it will help in the long run, but please do not allow someone to coerce you into believing that fish oil is better than science. Accupuncture, kinoki foot pads, and intestinal flushes are all a wash and I put fish oil into that group.
Avatar n tn If it were me, I would probably avoid the Salmon oil and use a different kind of fish oil. Carlson had a great one and I can tolerate it well, I have all kinds of allergies, but, this is good for me to take.
Avatar n tn My husband has hep c and cirrhosis, and currently takes 1760mg of fish oil per day at the recommendation of his hepatologist. It was recommended for him because of elevated triglycerides and was deemed safe even though he has low platelets. Of course, always discuss any medications, including supplements, with your doctor.
374933 tn?1291081784 I have graves and thyroid eye diease and flaxseed oil works better for me than fish oil. I take it everyday and it seems to help, also staying hydrated is really important. And if I am good not drinking helps...but sometimes you just need the wine.
Avatar n tn I have very dry skin, which has been worse since I've been having thyroid problems - I had been taking flaxseed oil, but the doctor suggested that I try fish oil instead (3000 mg/ day), as it's more easily absorbed. It made a real difference - for the better :-) You should probably ask your doctor, but if they have no objections, it could be quite helpful.
Avatar f tn I have tried different brands of fish oil on different occassions as well as my husband. I wished I could take it for the health benefits; but, in our case, it causes digestive upset such as bloating and gas. So, I've replaced fish oil with flax seed oil and we do not experience the gas and bloating we had with fish oil. In my case, I feel much better on flax seed oil, emotionally as well as physically.
Avatar f tn My bf is freaking out at me for not taking the fish oil, when I was taking it I used to burp up fish taste all the time and ended up puking which was even stronger fish taste. My doc said omega is important, and I don't like eating fish..any other suggestions?
Avatar m tn Actually, two things: If you're not allergic to krill oil, it is touted to be the superior form of animal based omega three oil. Second, all people should ideally use krill oil or fish oil everyday indefinitely. If you're able to take the krill oil, use that one. I've learned that fish oil can be rancid without one actually knowing this, whereas, krill oil doesn't have this tendency so much.
Avatar n tn Has anyone else experienced a dramatic increase in the number of PVCs associated with taking a fish oil supplement? I started taking a cod liver oil supplemnt about 6 weeks ago and have noticed a huge increase in my PVCs. Over the past few years I have hardly noticed my PVCs - having maybe only a couple skipped beats per hour. But since i started the fish oil supplement, my PVCs have increased to the point where last week I was having 4-5 PVCs every minute, that is, every few beats.
Avatar m tn Someone posted on another site that they had seen in a study a lonk between PVcs increasing and fish oil? I find this fascinating because I DID increase my fish oil consumption a couple of months ago andhave recently gone through a REALLY BAD bout of PVcs. I am very careful about the other stuff like caffeine, alcohol, etc. Has ANYBODY heard about this? Thanks and be well.
Avatar f tn "I've read that fish oil supplements can raise your FBS and shouldn't be taken by diabetics." Tell us where you read this; magazine, book or link? I'd like to see how they conducted their testing and whether or not it was on humans, not lab mice/rats. Always read the nutrition label carefully. Also make sure you're not allergic to seafood products like shellfish which some fish oil contain. Fish oil does not raise blood sugar levels.
1319721 tn?1276040968 It is like comparing night and day. Many people think krill oil and fish oil are the same. This is a common misconception. Both fish oil and krill oil contain Omega 3 fatty acids. These fatty acids have been shown to possibly reduce the risk of heart disease. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration stopped just short of stating that Omega 3 fatty acids conclusively reduced the risk of heart disease. It was enough though, to fuel a craze about fish oil.
Avatar m tn I also take a small amount of liquid Abilify and Clonazapam. I just started taking liquid fish oil and I think it's affecting my meds. Could it be affecting the medication that I take? Causing side effects? I'm feeling angry, a little depressed and annoyed since I started doing the fish oil. I have high cholesterol, so I want to take the the fish oil. Does anyone have any answers or suggestions.
